Newbie here.....please explain DAS card?

My 11 year old ds was recently diagnosed with autism which explains a lot for us. I have been strategizing for our upcoming Disney trip and since I know his triggers I have a good plan. One thing I can't plan for is crowds and wait times. Would this card help? How would I get one, do I need a dr note or the report with his diagnosis?

one to get a DAS card you need to go to GR and ask for one the CM will say what kind of help dose she need ( or something to that effect) no one can tell you what to say. if they give you the card ( it is now on the magic band) you will then go to a line lets say 7DMT and ask for a return time if the line is 60 minutes and it is 9 o'clock they will tell you that you can come back any time after 9:50 ( wait time - 10 minutes) you can come back any time after this time as long as the park is open so you can come back at 9 pm but you can not get another return time until you cancel or use the one you have.

The DAS can only be use for things that have a standby line and fast pass

Sorry, I was referring to the first post - I shouldn't have said thread. Thanks for clarifying, and for composing the referenced post. I found it extremely helpful! (p.s. I'm an "in MN" too! - assuming it means what I think it does...)

frankly, its the minimum that disney can do such that it complies with law, but really, depending on what you need, does little for you. not to get you down but don't expect it to be anything great.

In addition to asking for the DAS, you can try to plan for crowds and wait times by going to the least crowded park on any given day as predicted by touring plans and easywdw. Good luck! I am in MN too

If wait times are an issue, you may not get much relief out of the DAS - it is to provide an alternative to guests who are unable to wait in the regular queue. It does not shorten wait times.

If your child has needs that would result in issuance of a DAS, then the DAS can be used in conjunction with FP+ - you can pick some attractions for FP+ which would result in a timed entry for a shorter wait. DAS won't get you a shorter wait, but it will allow you to wait somewhere other than the queue.

I agree with what everyone said. I have issues related to mental and cognitive health that I use a DAS for (along with physical issues). I still wait as long as the standby time, but I can wait in an area that is safer and more comfortable for me. It certainly does not solve all my issues, but it does help eliminate the discomfort and pain of waiting in the queues themselves. Then it is up to me to decide if I am going to go to another attraction like a show with a shorter wait time, or find a quiet corner and do something like read a book until it is my turn to ride the attraction.

We stayed at WDW for a week in late October. We used the DAS exactly twice the entire week, and it was crowded. (once was Mine Train, because our plans changed and I could not reschedule it, and the other was for Test Track, because we had a FP for Soarin'). I tell people this, to reassure them that if for some reason they cannot get a DAS, or don't want one, that the trip will still be pretty manageable. This is because of the 3 FP+ system, with option of getting more after first 3 are used or expired. Between the 3 FP+, and getting to each park each day at opening, or close to opening, we did very well. (We left parks by 1-2 pm, and sometimes went out later, often we did not). I still get the DAS, just in case we need it, but I was surprised that we did not use it that much.

(At DL, it is different, we use the DAS there more often, as you only have one FP at a time, and it is so much easier to get a DAS return time there with the kiosks.)
