Hi,

I had a question, i am looking at buying a DVC through the time share store and i am wondering ... if its April and i want to book for December but i don't have any points available until October do i need to wait until October before i book or can i book sooner with the understanding that the points will be there in October?

Thanks

The understanding is that the points will be there in October. If your UY is say October, then that year's UY points are available in December. So you can call 11 months in advance of your vacation and those points will be used. MS will use banked points first if you have any and then that UY's points.

Zoooom

That went over my head ...

Lets see ... if i want to book a room in December 08 and my points don't become available until October 08 ... in say May of 08 can i call ahead and book my room for December with the understanding that the points will be available October of 08 ??

With an October Use Year, your points will be good for travel between October 1, 2008 and September 30, 2009. Reservations may be made 11 months ahead at your home resort and 7 months ahead at other DVC resorts.

Once you are in the DVC system - usually about a week after closing on a resale contract - you will be able to make a reservation to travel in December, 2008 using the points you'll have available on October 1.

As long as you will have valid points for the dates you will travel, the reservation may be made as much as 11 months ahead even if you have no points in the current Use Year. If you had wanted a reservation for dates prior to October 1, 2008 you could also borrow from your 2008 Use Year to make that reservation.

Use Year has nothing to do with when reservations may be made. It determines when your points are renewed each year and also determines your banking deadline.

What's up Doc....

Sorry.. i really had to say that! lol

Thanks thats a big help!

if i purchase directly w/disney, then my use year would be whatever month i buy into, right? (if i buy tomorrow, it would be april, correct?) :flower:

DVC has different UYs and you can work with them to purchase whatever works best for you (assuming it's available to sell). So, if you went in tomorrow, you could get April, or you could possibly get any other month. It just depends on what works best for you and what they have available.

No - with a direct purchase, DVC typically is selling contracts with a Use Year about 6 months ahead - so you would get points from the "current" Use Year and then get another allotment in a few months. If you feel a specific Use Year would serve you best you can even request that for a direct purchase. If you are purchasing at a resort other than SSR or AKV, there may be limitations for some Use Years - so you may not find some months readily available.
