DH and I have seriously been talking about buying a Class C RV. Before we jump into that venture, we would like to rent an RV for a week to 10-day vacation and see how it goes. We have 3 children--DD/17, DS/11 and DD/9. Our first dilemna is where to go. We live in central Alabama and can't decide which direction to take. He said somewhere around 1000 miles round trip. Do any of you regular campers have any suggestions? Any suggestions, comments, advice, etc is welcome. Thanks for all your help in advance.

I am so excited because as a child my family camped all the time. I could help my dad set up our popup by the time I was 8. After I married they moved up to a travel trailer. My kids have never been camping. A cabin at FW is as close as they have come to camping. Did I say I am so excited?

Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!

You might also want to consider going to a campground..or an RV Resort and renting one of their onsite trailers. We did this several times before we bought our travel trailer, and it gave us a good idea of what we wanted in the one we purchased. The same would be true for renting a motor home. We knew for instance that we definetly wanted a slide out. Especially with kids..and say it's a rainy day..it can get awfully crowded in a motor home or travel trailer without a slide out unit. They make HUGE difference in your living area. I also recommend an RV type resort only because of the ages of your kids. Most get to the teens..and they don't want to camp with mom and dad..but the resort type places offer more in the way of entertainment and pools and activities. Some also have transportation to local entertainment and shopping. (teens love that!) .I am not familiar with your area..but you might try www.RV.net . They have a "forum" that is devoted to campgrounds and attractions. I'm sure you'd get plenty of suggestions there. There are various discussion forums there that could help you with your purchase.

Not meaning to be too negative but agree that it might be a good idea to try at least one close to home weekend in a rental. RVs can get pretty tight when the weather is good and tighter if the weather is bad even with slide outs.

State and National parks also might be an option. You also might go to your local bookstore and pick up motor home magazines and the Woodalls campground guide book.
