Newbie booking question!

Hi!
We are new to DVC and still figuring out booking reservations/banking/borrowing. We have a June use year, and plan on using our 2020 points for a trip in December 2021. Do we need to have already banked the 2020 points at the time of booking the reservation? Also, in the future, if we are borrowing points from the next year, do we need to have already borrowed them in order to make the reservation?

Yes, when you go to make the reservation in January, you will need to bank those points,

For borrowing, you can only borrow when making a reservation and only what you need...up to 50%...to complete it.

Just so I'm clear- The reservation we are hoping for requires 260 points. I'll have 160 points from 2020, and another 160 coming 6/1/2021. If I need to make my reservation on 12/28/2020, I need to bank the 2020 points AND borrow up to 50% from 2021? So I would only be able to use 160 + 80 = 240, so I'd be short? Just want to make sure I'm understanding the rules

Almost! You are not borrowing 2021 since the trip is in your August 2921 UY, It does not matter that you are booking it in 2020.

So, bank the 160 from 2020 and then you can use 100 of the 2021...leaving you with 100.

You would only need to borrow if you needed your 2022 UY points!

So, your Aug 2021 trip is in your 2021 UY.....that means you pay for it with banked 2020 and 2021 points, If it was more than the 320 you have, then you could borrow another 80 from 2022!

Just forget about booking date when you figure out what points to use,...just UY of the trip!
