Newb Question: How Often Does Disneyland Close?

Hi all, I have a question about private events and other closures at the park. I bought premium annual passes for myself and my wife last week (second anniversary gift to each other ) so we could go more regularly.

Just randomly, I was browsing Disney sites today and was surprised to see someone posting about the park closing at 5pm for the "private event" of the POTC premier tomorrow.

We had been planning to go tomorrow (not for the movie premiere), and deliberately bought the premium annual passes rather than the SoCal resident or other more limited passes so that we could go any time. So, I called to see what the deal was for tomorrow, and was told that the park simply closes for private events like this, and that having the "365 day" passes will not get you in - how often does that happen? I was kinda shocked that they would close the park altogether for a private event (though I know this one is a big deal), especially on a summer Saturday evening, and am now wondering how often they do this. Someone please tell me it's rare...? Thanks!

It is rare.. I hardley close the park because of huge events. The only time it would be closed is if there is to many people in the parks. DCA will be open though, later so they will not lose money. I do not understand why they will close the whole park. They could just close the areas that the primere is going to be but I do not know. But do not worry about it it should not happen much more

Disneyland has several special events throughout the year. These include Grad Nights, Halloween nights, closed company parties and special events like the premier of POTC. Some such events are not open to the public, while others are special ticket. Disneyland is, however, open 365 to the premium passholders. They just have to leave a bit early on those special nights.
