New Yorkers Beware...Mickey is coming to town! June 17th, 2012 Canada Cruise

Good Day all....
Thought I'd add my DS's age ....16 as of 11-11-11 :cool1:
Coincides with the release of an epic video game (according to my son) which we will be picking up at the stroke of midnight on 11-11-11. Magical:wizard:

Still contemplating FE participation. Want June to be here already:)

Happy to hear there's another teenage boy in the group! My DS will be 15 1/2 when we cruise. Hope that you decide to do the FE:cheer2:! It doesn't have to be anything fancy or creative. I see that you live in the Amish Country, so you have lots of local things you can give out! Even the FE itself can be a simple bag attached to a bag!

Has anyone sailed on this ship before? Is there any restaurant on this ship that we shouldn't miss? We didn't get a chance to try Palo on the Dream, I was thinking that this might be a good time to try it. What are your thoughts

Great to hear your boy is similar in age :thumbsup2.

I have a great FE holder...and have done FE's but this cruise will be a B2B cruise- kinda. From port canaveral to NYC. It the schlepping of stuff from one to the other is what I am not sure I am willing to do. Playing it by ear for now.

Never too old... I LOVE Palo! Awesome food for a small upcharge. I'd say do it! I have eaten at PALO on every cruise! WORTH it for sure!

I went to Remy on my last cruise too.... really good, amazing service and pampering, more of an "experience" than a meal but I am not sure i'd pay the big price to do it twice.

Hi Everyone! We are planning on this cruise. We are four couples mostly in our 50's. No kids or grandkids with us on this one! I am a TA and my husband is a teacher. This is our 8th Disney cruise but two of the couples traveling with us have never cruised before. We have sailed on the Magic three times before to the Caribbean. We are Disney lovers for sure and are looking forward to something Disney but different! :yay:

Wow, that's a great kind of B2B! Sort of like Irish Twins?!
I can understand the schlepp factor. If you want, you could mail a box to the ship for the second part. Or just .... skip FE on the second part. But we hope you stay in the FE.
Looking forward to meeting you both in June:goodvibes!

Airfare booked!!! Southwest just released through Aug 10! :cool1:

Had to do some changing of our plans as we planned to see NY before the cruise, but it turned out to be $150 cheaper in airfare to do it afterwards so we'll be cruising and then seeing NYC.

We are flying in and out of EWR for $111 coming and $87 going!

Welcome Carol and Family !

I also booked my To NYC flight too (from port canaveral), 102 pp! DS and I will take a BUS back to PA from Port Authority post cruise. Way cheaper to not bring my car (no parking fees)

I am thinking we will stay at the "Yotel" it is a perfect "cool" hotel for my teen son. But I am still watching for sale fares there... I don't believe in paying full price for anything :thumbsup2 (We stayed at the "POD" last few times we were in NY- another "cool" place).

Both of these places may not be good for a larger family though- I am not sure what their biggest rooms are. Can we go now?????:yay:

Thanks for the welcome! I love Lancaster! Spend every birthday there with all my family for last 25 years including a few weeks ago in the snowstorm! We are planning one night before in NYC - what hotel is " POD"?

Lots of teachers here! :cutie:

You were HERE during the evil snowstorm Yikes! Hope you had fun anyway. I do love this area, grateful I live here.

Thats the name of the hotel....the POD ;) It is a very young/hip euro hotel. Everything is shiny, smooth, simple...they even have bunk Beds in some room and you can get a room that shares a Bathroom. Here is a link

http://http://thepodhotel.reachlocal.net/

admittedly its not for everyone :surfweb: but it was fun for DS and myself.

Have a great day everyone!:)

I'm also a teacher. :-)

I have next week off school and plan to make decisions on where to stay next week and book a hotel, or at least narrow it down and book a few hotels...:rotfl:

If anyone is flying into Newark the day before and wants to stay close to the hotel....

I just booked The Hampton Inn,Newark Airport on June 16 for (I think) $89. Hampton (Hilton) offers a price guarantee. If you you can find a cheaper price, you get the hotel for that price PLUS a $50 American Express Gift Cheque.

Expedia has this hotel (or did yesterday) for $67.15.

You must book at the $87 rate (prepaid rate b/c Expedia is prepaid) and then fill out the form.

I have already gotten back confirmation that I will be receiving the $22 credit upon checkin to the hotel and the gift cheque will be mailed upon checkout. So this room is actually costing me $17.15!!!

Thought I'd share in case this would work for anyone else!!!

We were thinking of just driving up the day of the cruise. I stayed at a Marriott last month which had a view of a cruise port. I'm thinking that is where the Magic will be docked as well. I think it was the Marriott Downtown near Ground Zero and the Statue of Liberty.
