Hey guys,
We are thinking of doing a flying visit to New York for our anniversary whilst we're out in Florida in June. The question is, are there any recommendations for hotels to stay at, we will be using taxi's whilst staying there so a location central to the tourist bits is the obvious choice but there are so many hotels and so many locations. any suggestions would be gratefuly recieved.

Cheers in advance.

There was quite a long thread on the community board about New York so it might be worth asking over there

when DD visited on her way to orlando 2 years ago, i reserved their hotel stay on expedia - got a really great deal.....
got her a room at the milford plaza for £100 from expedia, while on the milford website they wanted over £250 for the same room...

it was right in the times square area so really convenient to everything, especially the theater and the double decker bus tour....

i would check the various websites and see what deals are available...
you can check tripadvisor.com for hotel reviews....

the milford gets mixed reviews on trip advisor, but my daughter was very happy with it and the location.....

I have stayed at The Roosevelt & the radisson Lexington and would recommend them both, they are in midtown east and both in walking distance of most attractions in the midtown area and near subways. Only thing I didn't like about the radisson is that they was no full length mirror in the room :confused3 and no bar though had a few restaurants and a Starbucks. I booked the radisson via hotwire, I guessed what hotel it was though before booking.

We just got back from a Christmassy stay at the W Times Square and I honestly cannot sing their praises enough. Absolutely amazing. The staff were beyond helpful and friendly, room was fantastic and the restaurant (we only had time to have breakfast) was yummy! The only slight down side was the noise even on the 23rd floor BUT thats the price you pay for being slap bang on Times Square. This was our 3rd trip to NYC and we now have the touristy spots covered so next trip I will be picking a spot off Times Square but from now on wherever there is a W hotel that's where we'll be.

There was a W hotel at Union Square, I thought that would be an excellent location. In walking distance from downtown & midtown and near 14st subway station.

We stayed at the Comfort Inn Manhatten in October and really recommend it. Nice size, clean rooms, free wifi, free nice breakfast, and good location - 10 mins from Times Square and right on 5th Ave. Am gagging to get back to NY and when I do I will be staying there!!

Thank you for all the replies, gonna be looking at them and hopefully deciding soon :goodvibes:goodvibes

We stayed at The Hilton Garden hotel 8th Avenue. Hotel was very nice, staff super helpful, however just like at Disney, we only used hotel to sleep in.
We felt it was a fantasic location -Most popular shows, Times Square, Rockerfeller Center, Radio City all about 5 mns walking distance. Ground Zero, Statue of Liberty about 25 mins away on subway.
Look into getting New York Ciy pass - we had 7 day passes and they had paid for themselves half way through third day!

We are doing NYC in early summer too; we went for "cheap and cheerful" with the hotel because even £150/night gets you next to nothing out there. How much time do you spend in your room anyway? ;)

Your best bet is Tripadvisor and combining that with the price you're willing to pay. EVERYWHERE in Manhattan is easily accessible and the public transport is superb so it doesn't really matter which part of town you stay in. Some people prefer the touristy area around Times Square etc. whereas others enjoy staying in the more residential areas.
