Hi we are going to new york later this year just wondering if anyone knows of any good restaurants, especially any with good views of manhattan thanks:thumbsup2

Hiya -
NEW YORK ROCKS!!! I LOVE IT!!!!

Where are you staying? I've been 3 times now and my future plan is to go every year for 3 nights.... with or without DH!!!:lmao:

We tend not to do "posh" restaurants - i'm sure there will be others along to recomend some of those.

There is a Bubba Gumps in Times square - if you get a window seat you can have a fab view of all the billboards, cars etc.
Its not the best restaurant in the world, and is quite pricey for what you get, but i suppose your paying for the view out of the window - and just about worth it IMHO. (just dont let DH know i said that!!)

There is a river cruise with dinner you can do - friends of ours did it and it comes highly recommeded if they did it.. coz they only like "the best"!!!
You can get a deal on it too by booking ahead - its something we looked at doing but ran out of time.
There are some fab places to eat inside Grand Central station too.

All the guide books recommed good places, and I can highly recommed Simons Brits Guide to New York - it really is a MUST for first timers (and ours on our 3rd go). IMHO none of the other guide books come close to enough and interesting information.

If you have time I would highly recommed taking a train from Grand Central STation up the Hudson River - Metro Line North East of Hudson - the railway line follows the river out of the city for about 2 hrs north to Ploughkeepsie.
(We did this for the first time last year to visit my cousin who lived north of the city)
Its as different from an inner city to the highlands of Scotland - its was so unbelievable the difference in the scenery. 20 minutes outside of the city you would have thought you were in a different country!

If you are going in the summer it will be VERY hot - make sure you drink lots of water.

If you have any more questions just ask... I could babble on about NY for hours!!

Enjoy your planning x

we are staying at the affinia dumont, not going until december but just back from florida so need something to plan  will definately have to go and buy that guide book :thumbsup2

Went NY last year and I absolutely loved it.

Anyway, some restaurants we went to however the views, well you didn't see much but food was awesome. Outback Steakhouse. That was great. Cheap too, especially for a city!

For breakfast we went to a place called Madisons. We stayed in the Courtyard by Mariott in Manhattan so let me know if you are near there of let me know the address and I can get you directions to this place. I would highly recommend it for breakfast. It was cheap and the food was good quality. 2 of us shared 1 plate of pancakes plus the usual free coffee refils.

While there, I suggest a Circle Line cruise. This was awesome and you see so much. See some of NJ, Statue of Liberty, Wall Street things like that. Even more if you do the whole circle one. Go on all the bridges and tell you an awesome pnemonic to remember them in order haha. BMW.

I can give you other tips on things to do if you wish as we had such an awesome time. Fan of the baseball Yankee Stadium is a short hop on the sub from Manhattan to the Bronx.

On the corner of 30th and Madison is a FAB little breakfast diner - we used it every day when we stayed at the Thirty Thirty hotel.
Choice of fresh fruits, eggs - any way you like them, pastries, lots of different granolas, pancakes etc

Yr hotel is not too far away - looks fab by the way:thumbsup2 but all around there there will be lots of little cafes where you can get a fab breakfast.
You can pay anthing from $10- $100s- not quite Florida portions, but you will find some really lovely places to eat.

We made lots of plans to eat at lovely places, and i brought lots of "going out clothes" with me too.... didnt wear any of them
We would be out of the room by around 8am and mostly didnt get back until 11pm - we never got back to change for dinner so just ate at the next restaurant we came to when we were starving! We ate at TGI's, Planet Hollywood (great atmosphere) and of all places McDonalds on the saturday night after we had spend 4hrs in casualty with my infected tooth!! Great!:rotfl::rotfl:

Another place I must recommed is the United Nations building - if its the kind of place you might be interested in - lots of history and you get to see all the conference rooms you see on the TV. They have artifacts from all over the world including Hiroshima - very moving.

HERE'S YOUR WARNING......
We have gone for 2 nights, 6 nights and 5 nights - and still havent done anywhere near enough... your first time will not be your last:rotfl2:

Took my DD to NYC for her 16th birthday at Easter - we had such a great time we are definitely going back year after next to try and do some of the things we didn't get around to doing!

We had breakfast at CafeEuropean where a lot of the locals eat - there are a few of them around the Times Square area and very good food, good prices.

We couldn't get into the Starlight Diner, but had the most amazing burgers in Roxy's Deli one night - humungous! Had dinner in Planet Hollywood and Red Lobster too. Both great, but found the prices in New York more expensive than anywhere else in the States we've visited.

Had lunch one day in a little corner diner with the locals - grilled cheese sandwiches and a BLT (just got to do these things:laughing:).

Would highly recommend the Circle Line boat tour of the Hudson around Manhattan - you get the most amazing views of that lovely skyline and so much history of Manhattan and New York.

Take really comfortable shoes - you will do a load of walking, but it's such fun!

We were in NYC in early May and had the most wonderful time. If you want a fancy brunch with fab views and great food, the Marriott Marquise on Times Square has a revolving restaurant, The View, on (I think) the 46th floor.

We loved Ellen's Stardust Diner, but don't go for the food, it's the singing that is the attraction.

We also had a very elegant breakfast in Nougatine in the gold Trump Tower facing the Park. It is very fine dining but we found it quite inexpensive.
