New York?

Has anyone ever been to NY for a few days? If so, approx how much did you spend per person? We are off there soon (well, not that soon unfortunately) together with our Disney trip and I've got no idea how much to take! I'm used to bugdetting for Disney!

Its entirely up to what you do when you're there, a good sightseeing city tour will set you back around $50 each, entrance to empire state, statue of leiberty etc are usually extra, eating is as cheap or as expensive as you want, a good meal can be had for around $30 a head. Shopping is great and certainly things that would cost a lot here would be cheaper there but there are many bargains to be had.

Just take your credit card don't bother changing you money. I compared difference last year and on a 3 week trip we were £50 better off with the card. Obviously if the rate goes down you would have been better buying the $'s but who knows it could go up.
Its like any city, expensive. We paid £150/ night for hotel, Crowne Plaza Times Sq. Meals are anything from McDonalds thru to topclass meals. You can eat on any budget, Decide before you go what you want to do and you can find prices for all attractions before you go, some give discounts for booking online.

When I went with my friends most of the money we spent was on shopping. Sight seeing costs were very minimal as was eating out. For the 5 days I was there, I think I spent about $1500. I did buy a pair of Jimmy Choos and did some serious damage in Bloomingdales and Saks

Obviously it depends entirely on your individual tastes. We own timeshare in New York, so accommodation is sorted out - that always makes me feel like I have even more to spend because we "saved" on accommodation costs!

Now that we have been numerous times and have seen all the main attractions, most of our time is spent shopping. With regards to spending on food, it is entirely your decision. There is an abundance of restaurants from the very cheap to the extremely expensive. Sightseeing can mount up if there are a few of you; but some of the best things are free. You can (and must!) book to go up the Statue of Liberty. This is free (well, included in the Circle Line boat transport fee) and well worth it. They only allow a minimal amount of people up the statue each day, so make sure your make a reservation at Statue Reservations . If you don't intend on visiting the actual Liberty Island (or Ellis Island) then there are the yellow Staten Island ferries which are free-of-charge - these go straight past the statue and provide great views. Of course, visiting Central Park is free (you must try the Boathouse Restaurant!).

I find that we reserve (and thus pay for) most of the tourist attractions in New York before we leave. Broadway shows, Statue of Liberty tickets, ESB tickets....you can save yourself hours of queueing by booking in advance.

One of my fav things we did in New York was visit Winnie The Pooh and friends. To see the original toys from my childhood reading was an unbelievable experience, I had wanted to see them for years.

It depends on how easy you find it to resist shopping. We have been a couple of times and spend a fortune on clothing and shoes etc. Entry to the Statue of Liberty and Empire State building is not that bad and many of the museums don't charge a fee but ask for donations (they recommend about $18 pp if I remember correctly but nobody appears to give anywhere near that)

I am so lucky neither me nor DW like shopping, we went into Macy's to see the old escalators not the things on sale. Went into Bloomingdales a quick look round and we said boring lets go
We enjoy Disney outlet stores in Orlando and thats all.
