New York tips and discussion

Yep, for my dates. :) I think I've got my heart set on the Palace. Hopefully the price will stay the same until Sunday when we book! Great pic by the way, St. Patrick's is lovely!

You'll love it, I promise!! Request a high floor and see if they can give you a 'view' (some rooms literally overlook a brick wall of the building next to it - we just about got luck after not requesting anything and had a slight bit of a wall but mainly our view was of the Waldorf).

You also get gorgeous robes, slippers, and most usefully for us at the time, a New York Palace umbrella which kept us dry on the rainy days!

Also in New York, get yourself a cupcake from the Magnolia Bakery, on 6th Avenue a short walk from the Palace. Apparently Sex And The City featured them but that's another program that passed me by!!

Also in the courtyard is a more casual dining area, although the food comes from the Michelin starred Gilt restaurant that's at the hotel. Best burger and chips I've ever had, although not cheap at $110 for two burgers, a portion of truffle fries (incredible!!) a rosé and a beer plus tip, but was so so good!!

Also the location of this courtyard is again, amazing to sit at night and at least have a drink (excuse the poor photography!!)

And not to forget the gorgeous lobby/inside areas

Really wish I was there right now after looking back at these :lmao:

Many thanks for the pics Luke!

It really is a lovely hotel. I read about the brick wall views on Trip Advisor- I'll be sure to request a nice view!

The food at Gilt looks fantastic, I had a look at the menu on their website. Yes, it's expensive, but it's nice for a treat and I now have your word that it's worth it. :)

The pic of the Magnolia Bakery cupcakes is making me hungry! I was planning on visiting as I'm a big Sex And The City fan. My friend went there a couple of years ago and brought me a box of cookies home.

Glad to be of help, have enjoyed having a look back through all the photos too!

Just giz a shout if you want to know anything else (even tho I'm still jealous!!) :)

:goodvibes

Lauren have you looked at flying out of a London airport, the flights are a lot cheaper & direct. You could then get a cheap flight to London or trains?

:rotfl: I'm sure you'll be going back soon enough and then I'LL be the jealous one!

Thanks Nikki, I'd considered going from London but when I priced up the train tickets (flights were extornionate! :scared1:), it more or less worked out the same price as going indirect from Manchester. We'd be able to get a lift to Manchester Airport so there would be no additional cost to factor in, plus it's less hassle.

More greast photos Luke, anymore you want to share? i love looking at them atm, can't wait to see all these places for myself :)

How long are you planning on going for Lauren? we are going for 4 nights and was considering the NY pass but now might get the explorer one instead as it might work out more value, iguess it depends how long you are there for and what you plan on doing but worth checking out aswell http://www.attraction-tickets-direct.co.uk/new-york-tours/explorer-pass.htm http://www.smartdestinations.com/new-york-attractions-and-tours/_d_Nyc-p1.html

have you tried searching on www.skyscanner.net or www.kayak.co.uk it will list the cheapest avaliable flights with most airlines for your dates from any airport you want to check, pretty useful

Thanks, I've had a look at all the flight websites- doesn't look like it will be any cheaper to go DIY, might as well book a package for the convenience.

great info on here! we are looking to go in August for our 25th Anniversary
more photos please Luke! :worship:

Good luck with getting a decent price on a package.
We booked it DIY (flights with VA & Millenium hilton hotel) and are paying around £1000 for the two of us so hopefully you can find a good price too.
Are you going around easter? maybe thats bumping prices? if you look on thomas cook theres a code for £50 off which is TCSAVE50, also maybe virgin holidays they are having a sale atm and with 10% off, if i see anything else that might be useful to you, i will post it here :)

Thanks for being so helpful. :)

It's the Easter weekend we're going so that's probably why it's quite expensive. We want to go then to make use of the bank holidays though, so we're stuck with the dates!

I'll check out Thomas Cook and Virgin Holidays too.

ETA: our dates are April 1-5, which is a shame- that's quite a good price you found with Virgin!

No problems, i just checked your dates on VH for the Palace hotel and it was coming in total £1673 flying VA Heathrow into Newark, they did have some cheaper options but i remember reading you wanted to stay at that hotel :)

If i must then ;)

Here's the view looking down at the New York Palace from the Top of the Rock

cimg5018.jpg

The Empire State and the Statue of Liberty taken from the boat tour.
ADVICE - there is a 2 hour half loop tour and a 3 hour full island tour - do the 2 hour one, as we did the 3 hour full tour and there is hardly anything to see once you get up past the UN until you quickly float past Yankee Stadium!
