I'm looking to book a trip to NYC in November for me and Iain.

Does anyone have any ideas of any good places to stay on a budget

I'm looking for flights <£400pp and hotel for 5 nights for £600 maximum

I know I'm pushing it but does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
Laura

I would say try the usual places like Expedia etc, it will most likely be cheaper to book as a package rather then individual.

ETA: Do you want the whole trip flights & hotel for £600 each? I think you may struggle. I paid just over £600 last year for flights & 5 nights hotel in Feb & the hotel wasn't a fancy one either. You may have to look at cutting the number of nights staying

When we went with college we stayed at the Hotel Pennsylvania, but i think we were the only group there, so it is not like it is teeming with kids running around. Our teacher used to work for Thomas Cook head office so i think she may have known about this hotel.

It is an OK hotel that has obviously seen grander days, everything is clean but could do with a renovation to bring it into the 21st century BUT the location is probably the best in New York

It is situated on the corner, across the street one way is Madison Square Garden, across the street the other way is Macys, and 2 blocks the other end of the street is the Empire State Building

my personal advice is that wherever you stay, unless it is free don't get the breakfast as there are so many places to get this from and so many different foods to try

I think you will struggle as in New York hotel prices are most expensive from October to December.

We paid £500 each for flights and £290 for a hotel in March, so that worked out at £645 each but at a quieter time of year.

For hotels, have you looked on TravelZoo for any promotions available? That is how we got our hotel, Fitzpatrick Grand Central, at a bargain rate through one of their promotions!

We went in May half term for 5 nights and managed to get flights with American Airlines for £377 each by taking awful flight times (we landed there at 10pm, so it was almost midnight by the time we got to our hotel - but the return flight wasn't until 11pm so we had another full day in the city there).

We stayed at the Hampton Inn Madison Square Garden for £135/night - we found it to be very pleasant. It came to under £600 after Quidco.

We have never found it more economical to book a package; it's always worked out at least 5% cheaper to DIY.

It's expensive, though. Those 5 nights cost us as much as 11 nights in Orlando.

I went indirect Manchester via chicago which saved £150 on flights, flights was about £360. Not a ideal journey but it was a case of every £ counting.

I booked using hotwire for hotel. Googled the area and hotel amenities etc before booking and figured out what it was and was correct. We stayed at the Raddison at Lexington for £533 for 6 nights. They did have better deals but that was the area I wanted to stay in.
