Anyone been? If so what should I do and where did you stay and did you like it?...I was just thinking I want to go, I have been there but we stayed at a family members house in New Jersey....Thanks...

I go all the time, my company's US home office is in NYC (midtown). I love the city, it's so much fun, a lot to see and do (especially shopping - they have anything you could ever want from low to high).

Staying or doing anything is not cheap though. Expect hotel prices above $200 for a 1 or 2 Star Hotel, or $300+ for better hotels, especially closer to Times Square and the Financial District (where most of the nicer hotels are anyway). Restuarants can be pricey, but there are so many, and some REALLY great places. Avoid tourist places and chain restaurants especially if you want to save on money because these are typically the most over priced places.

I recommend the Circle LIne tour and one of those city bus tours. I think they are a great way to see an overview of the city and then go back to what you want to see in more detail.

Those city bus tours are expensive! :scared1: Check em out on line prior to booking.

I work in the city and DD and DH came in with me today. They are doing the Empire State Bldg (he called me - it's packed) and then up to the Central Park Zoo.

OP, what are you interested in seeing or doing? What are the ages of your children? I'd be more than happy to direct you or answer any questions.
I believe you can get a City Pass type booklet that gives you discounts or admissions to certain places.

I´d go with Priceline to get a hotel. Last time I used Priceline for a room in NYC was last June and I got the Grand Hyatt for $115 (5 nights for $575).
I LOVE NYC, it´s definitely one of my favorite cities.
Besides shopping and seeing a Broadway show I love to visit the Natural History Museum, Top of the Rock (or Empire State. Like the ambience of ESB more, but view of TOR is better), Central Park and Ellis Island.

We went last summer for 3 days. Used Priceline to get a 4 star hotel for $110+tax per night in a great location. Purchased tickets for the double-decker buses on-line getting a AAA discount. Purchased tickets to go up in the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island on-line, adding the audiotour.

Got a one-day subway pass as well.

My family had never been to NYC before and this was an excellent way to give them an "overview" of the city. We stopped in to see St. Patrick's Cathedral, the Plaza Hotel, the 5th Ave Disney store, Time's Square, and Central Park.

On our next visit we will focus on some of the museums, a Broadway show, and the Empire State Building.

The highlight, of course, was the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

Loved the bus tours because you got a "glimpse" of a lot of landmarks - so this was a good way to "see" a lot on your first trip.

Wow! Talk about a wide open question! What do you like to do? Museums and sightseeing or restaurants and clubbing? Boutique hotel or chain operation? Picnic in Central Park or shopping in the Village? Honestly, I could go on forever. It would be easier if you explained your interests...

You can easily get a good hotel, in a central location for $200-250 per night...even less if you use Priceline.

My top sights would be...
1. Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island
2. Empire State Building
3. Chinatown (easy to pair with the Statue of Liberty visit)
4. Times Square
5. Broadway Show
6. Central Park (making sure to see Bethesda Terrace and Belvedere Castle)
7. Museum of Natural History (on one side of Central Park)
8. Metropolitan Museum of Art (on the other side of Central Park)
9. St. Patrick's Cathedral
10. Rockefeller Center
11. Radio City Music Hall Tour
12. Museum of Modern Art

I'd also try to eat a meal in Little Italy, one in Chinatown (we love Dim Sum Go Go!) and pizza at John's in Time's Square. Also, stop at Crumbs for a cupcake...they are AMAZING and much better, IMO, than the very popular Magnolia Bakery.

Have a great time, and feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Sadly, the store is now closed. We walked by two weeks ago and it was completely empty...with only "A Christmas Carol" signage in the windows to let you know what it once was. :(

It closed at the end of the year. They are putting in a bigger, interactive type store somewhere in Times Square. Not sure when it's going to open.

We just went last weekend. We stayed at the Crowne Plaza at 48th & Broadway. It was very nice. We went to Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral, the NBA Store, the Apple Store, World of Nintendo, NBC Studios (the tour was sold out), Times Square, the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island, and the Museum of Natural History. It was a busy weekend, but so much fun! BTW, can you tell that DH & DS's are techno-geeks?

I asked a CM about another store opening in Times Square when we went back in December. He said that the World of Disney does not have any plans of opening a store in Times Square :confused3.

I haven't been to the Intrepid in a while, but I remember that being pretty cool. Chelsea Piers is neat too.

I've never stayed in ny except in my grandpa's apartment lol, but I go all the time cause I'm about an hour away here in nj.
There's so many things to do though

Go to times square, central park, visit ground zero.
Theres so much to see-have fun!

Technically I believe that is true, it won't be a World of Disney from recollection, rather a Disney Store, just a much larger format then many of the other in-mall locations. Disney even made mention of it in an interview when asked if the new Disney Store would be their flagship store and they said no, it would just be a larger store, with much of the same interactive features of their new stores.

We're going into the Big Apple later this month for two nights.
We're seeing 2or 3 broadway shows, the King Tut exhibit, and
Regis & Kelly show. Last year we did the same except the
exhibit was Titantic....fun, fun city! Have fun!!

ditto. There is so much to do in NY. I went for the first time last April and I'm planning a girls trip for this June. I like Trip Advisor for hotel deals. They list reviews and pull rates from like 6 or 7 travel sites. Have fun!

oops forgot....staying at the millenium UN, very nice hotel.
Outstanding views! Got the room for under $200 a night.

Rats! I wish it would be for the World of Disney. Because it was owned by the Disney Parks, I was able to get park related items there (it'll be a few years before we're able to go back again). The Disney Store doesn't have the park items.
