Now my boyfriend brought this up today and ask me this but I didn't actually know the answer to this.
Would the park be open new years night? as in for the countdown? Has anyone been out there around that time?

Any info would be so greatly appreciated :goodvibes

Thanks everyone

It's like cats and dogs living together. . . mass hysteria. . . real "wrath of God" type stuff.

:scared1::scared1::scared1:

Sorry, that's the only way I could think of to describe NYE at DLR. :lmao:

Was about to ask a similar question.
I was wondering if there are fireworks that night at Midnight or earlier?
Thanks :)

Okay, every time this comes up I post a similar reply. One day I will just save it and re-post. LOL

New Year's Eve is one of the absolute busiest nights of the entire year at Disneyland, if not THE busiest. You can count on the Park filling to capacity (meaning, no re-entry). It's only a question of what time that will happen.

There is a stage, countdown, characters, etc on Main Street. There are hats and blowers given out at various locations in the Park. 99.9% sure there were fireworks. Fun time! :yay:

Now, visualize with me:
Imagine Main Street. Now imagine standing shoulder to shoulder with someone. Now imagine standing on Main Street with every inch of Main Street filled with people. You are standing shoulder to shoulder with your new best friends that you just met who are waiting with you to ring in the New Year, amazed that so many people could possibly be there.

Then add a few people.

Every inch of Main Street, shoulder to shoulder with people. More than you can possibly imagine. :crowded:

You are now probably thinking, "Okay, it's crowded, Dreams just doesn't have the tolerance for crowds that I do. She's also probably not a big Disney fan." I do. And I am. Big time. And I thought the same thing from the person who told me about NYE at DL.

That said, you will do it. Once. You will be sure it's an exaggeration. You will be sure this year will be different. And then you will know. It really is that crowded. And you will never do it again. But you will have to do it once. It's a Disneyland fan's badge of honor. Trust me. I've done it. Once. I loved it. And I doubt I will ever do it again, but I had to do it once... because, well, it couldn't be THAT crowded. :upsidedow

Have a great New Year's Eve on Main Street! It's a once in a lifetime experience. :wizard:

:lmao:
Sure beats doing it in Times Square though (I'm sorry but that "ball dropping" I do NOT get) or anywhere else really. I mean it is Disney after all :wizard::love:

We won't be doing it this time though. We will be flying in that night (31st dec) and don't know whether to stay at the airport that night or drive to Anaheim to watch the fireworks from outside the park???? If they are at midnight it will be worth driving there but if it is much earlier it might be cutting it a bit fine.
[I just know how many times fireworks get cancelled at DL so I don't want to miss any opportunities!]

Personally, I would never do it. My friend who did it two years ago left before midnight because she couldn't stand the crowds. She went back to the hotel and just watched the ball drop.

As someone said about the ball drop, I don't get it either and I live in NYC. I would NEVER go to Times Square for NYE. It is FREEZING here in December- January.. ok December through March-ish. Plus, from where you are on the sidewalk the ball looks TINY. Ok, that's enough of my rant on the ball dropping.

The thought of NYE made 3 grown-up, seasoned, CMs shudder and get a fearful, far-away look in their eyes...

I don't want to be there for an event that does that to Cast Members.

Plus, if I can't have champagne as the calendar changes, I'd rather just be at home cozy with the fam.

I've thought about this many times because I could get in free. But the crowds really scare me. . . I'm not sure I could tolerate it.

We were there 3 years ago and had a ball. Yes, it was crowded but we managed to get in quite a few rides, saw the fireworks, etc. I probably never saw so many people in one place before but we thought the CMs managed the crowds masterfully.

We went for our 1st anniversary (almost 20 years ago)! Yes, we got married on NYE.

I don't remember it being that bad, but that was 20 years ago. I still have the party hats they gave us. Fireworks at midnight, open til 2am.

Very fond memories, fun party.

Probably wouldn't do it again.

I do believe it is that crowded. :scared1:

I have done Time Square and it was that crowded. Glad I did it to say I have done it but will not do it again I think. I was very lucky it was back in mid 80's and it was like 50 degrees at midnight with a light rain:woohoo:. Not bad weather at all for NYNY in december.

So I do believe the crowd and dont think I will try it.

John

Ok so besides the fact that it WILL be crowded, there is a stage in front of the castle & a deejay is up there playing random songs (I personally hated the HSM & Hannah Montana songs, but not all of them are Disney) & every half hour or so, 4 hosts will come out to "check up" on the crowd & sometimes when they come out, there will be characters talking, dancing, etc. There are also 1-2 stations in the park where they distribute hats & blowers. If there isn't rain or high winds, they will have the Christmas fireworks @ the normal 9:25 showing & then NY fireworks @ midnight.
My only problem w/ NYE is not really the crowds, but the ppl who like to cut right infront of you at the last minute. That really irritates me especially when I would be @ my spot for 8 hrs! A friend of ours will actually start holding the spot 1st thing in the morning! So butting in is a big pisser offer.
Other than that, I like being in the midst of Disneyland @ NYE. I'm just that crazy.
