Hi Missy: I just posted a similar request in the Disney Restaurant Forum and got a couple of good suggstions. We will be at SSR on New Year's and it is our first NY trip so we would like to eat somewhere really fun and then go back to SSR to watch the downtown Disney fireworks. I look forward to the suggestions from the DVC pros!

We were there last New Years. We stayed at the Swan for 2 days then moved over to Boardwalk on New Years Day.
On New Years Eve we went to Dinner at Shula's Steak House in the Dolphin, it was Great! We then went over to the Boardwalk on the Green, right outside the Hotel, they had a DJ and we danced until 9pm, then we went to Epcot to one of their DJ stations in the Countries and stayed there until 1am. The Fireworks were awesome!

On another trip for NY we had dinner at Coral Reef in Epcot and then went to the DJ station in front of the park and watched the fireworks from there.

The time before that we had dinner at Cirque du Soleil for New Years 2000 and then seen the show, that was a Great Night. They only had that dinner that one year.

Hope this helps you.

I'm big on the MGM fireworks (twice a year -- 4th of July and NYE) so I would vote for one of the MGM restaurants, Prime Time, or Brown Derby. Haven't eaten at Mama Melrose, but I know many like it there. And there's always fixing something yourself in the villa -- especially if you need to nap (like I do) to stay up until NY!:rotfl2:

We were there for New Year's Eve in 2004 and we stayed at the Boardwalk with a view of the courtyard. As we were preparing to head to the MK, they were setting up a DJ stand right outside our door. Be sure to have reservations well in advance because the parks fill up and they may not admit you later in the day. We had 8:30pm reservations at the Liberty Tree Inn (I brought the reservation confirmation with me in case there was a problem getting into the park but I was not questioned). We got to the park around 7 and couldn't even get down Main Street, we were ushered through the backstage area to the right of Town Square and came out in Tomorrowland.

We worked our way to Liberty Square and waited about 1/2 hour to be seated (not a bad wait because Spectro was passing by). Dinner was a blast and then we headed back to Tomorrowland, you couldn't make your way anywhere near Main Street. But the fireworks were spectacular; every inch of the sky was covered in glitter. I'm always amazed that Disney can find a way to top themselves time after time.

The weather was fabulous so we took our time just strolling around the park until it closed (snow flakes fluttering down Main Street - it was so much fun.)

The drive back to the Boardwalk took quite a while with all the traffic but it was expected. When we got to our room, there was no trace of the party that happened right outside our door just a few hours ago.

Oh my goodness, I want to go back there NOW!!!

We have several NYE/WDW trips under our belts, and our favorite is Epcot for NYE. We have done Germany and Japan for dinners, and we happened to be in Germany right at 6 PM (midnight in Germany), and it was a blast! Each country celebrates when it is midnight in their own time zone. The Illuminations for NYE is spectacular!

How do the fireworks differ from park to park? Or is it the festivities that accompany the fireworks that make one partk more enjoyable than another? We have never been.

TIA

Ellen

I love Epcot for NYE also. Much more room to move around than MK. I also love to go to Pleasure Island for NYE, but that is only for adults, no kids allowed! That is a fun time! They always have a "name" person, along with the clubs. It's fun! They have a champagne toast at Midnight, snacks, etc, and fireworks. It's a hard ticket event and they only sell so many tickets, so the crowd is manageable.
