We should arrive in Orlando around 6pm on NYE(cant change flights). I really want to view some of the NYE fireworks, but I am worried that we may not get into a park by the time we have checked in to our resort. I originally booked POR as there are no codes for NYE and it is top rack rate that time of year. I then cancelled this and changed to Beach club thinking I could walk into EPCOT. Now I am doubting whether I will get to any park at all that night with tired kids and parks filled to capacity...SO....is it worth paying for a deluxe room rack rate for 1 night (appprox $511) just to view fireworks and hope to walk to a park ? we are not well off by any means but save all year for our vacation and want it to be special. If It is worth paying for the deluxe which one would be best for viewing fireworks or hoping to get into a park ?
Poly ? Beach Club ? Contemporary ? Or, Am I worrying too much and should I stick with POR and rely on Disney transportation ? :confused3 :confused3 The rest of the trip we will stay at SSR.

Stick with POR. I wouldn't pay over $500/night just to see the fireworks. Too many things could go wrong...your flight could be delayed/cancelled, etc.

hmmm....New Years Eve. I can certainly see your concerns. Its alot of money to stay at the Beach Club, walking distance to Epcot is a plus, but what if it full to capacity by the time you make it there.

Considering it is only for 1 night, I might try for something like the contemporay, it should be a little easier on the pocketbook and you will still have the monorail.

Another thought....What about staying at ssr for NYE, does DTD have fireworks?

I would constantly be re-thinking myself and sweatin about it until I finally was at one of the resorts.

We are checking into SSR on New Years Day too , see you there

SSR is too expensive on NYE. There are 5 in our family. I could get a contemporary north wing for around $400 but that is still $200 more than for POR. Would I be able to view fireworks from the wing rooms ?

We spent NYE 2003 at the Beach Club and didn't go to any parks on NYE, but saw the best fireworks display.
We watched from the Beach at the Beach Club and we were able to hear the countdown from the Boardwalk speakers and were amazed that we saw Fireworks from EPCOT and MGM at the same time. It was wonderful and very special..
They give out hats and noice makers to all resort guests and spending the extra money (in my opinion) is worth it! We have those memories (and pictures) that will last forever! :)
ENJOY YOUR TRIP!

After reading this post, I would vote to stay at the beachclub :)

You can always stay at POR and get a PS for a late dinner at bc or cs. You could spend the money that you save on the hotel on dinner plus you would be in the area to view the fireworks.

Another vote to stay at the Beach Club. If you do we might see you there. We plan to avoid the parks on NYE at sit on the Beach at the BC and watch the fireworks there.

I agree. However, if the BC is just too much money and you end up at POR, I would head down to piano bar in the main hall. They have a piano player, named Bob, who does an incredibly funny, kick butt comedy/music show that would be great for NYE as an alternative to the fireworks. I'm sure they give out hats and favors there as well.

Another option could be the Swan and Dolphin, they are both real close to the Yacht and Beach Club, meaning you could either walk to Epcot or MGM. We were there for NYE 2003 and they set an all time attendance record for Epcot and they never closed the park.

go to allearsnet.com and get a discount code for the Swan or Dolphin for that time of year for 189.50/night for a lake view. We've stayed in both the Swan and Dolphin and there both wonderful. There is a $10.00/night resort fee and also a new $7.00/night parking fee.

We stayed at Swan for christmas week 2003 and got teacher's rate for that week of $149( we upgraded to CL for $214). It is the only onsite(non-disney) that has any discount for arrival after 12/23 I beleive. We loved it . Spent NYE at MGM then boated to swan around 11;45 and saw fireworks for Epcot and MGM from dock. They were great!
