New Years Eve resi

I've been a member for near ten years and was told something I've never heard of before. I was planning on booking some time during the Christmas break that would extend over New Years eve. I was told there was a lottery for New years eve. I haven't confirmed that with member services and it seemed odd because I've never read it in any of DVC's literature. Has any one heard of this? I've been down for Easter week, Thanksgiving, and Winter break and never had issue with a resi at my home reort 11 mos out. Should I expect a problem here?

So if you wanted NYE you would have to put your name in a lottery and just hoped you got picked?

Yes. And home resort didn't matter. If you owned OKW, you could put your name in for BWV and if picked, you would get it. I hated that part (no home resort priority), but it was all spelled out in the POS.

DVC could start it up again if they chose. Those who are interested in the details should look in their POS document for "Special Season Preference List".

When it was discontinued for 12/24 - 12/31, they told us it was no longer necessary as there was still availability left even after everyone on the list got their reservation. I think the last time it was in effect was for 1999.

I extended a reservation today to add 12/31 and it was no problem. It was at SSR, our home resort obviously since this is the 11 month window. Nothing mentioned about a lottery, but MS did say that it was a good thing I booked it now or I might not get it.
