New Year's Eve in DL

Hi all!

Has anyone been in the parks on or the few days after New Year's Eve? Is it completely crazy? Is it comparable to the summer crowds?

I have not been on NYE. I have seen posts where people say Never Again. But I can't say first hand. I have been on New Year's Day. The morning was very nice and uncrowded. Afternoon started to get long lines and we left around 2pm. The next day, Jan. 2nd, was CRAZY! We had about 2 hours in the morning before it was completely packed. The ticket booth lines went out across the courtyard between the parks. ( We didn't need to stand in those). There were lines to get back into DL and DCA each time you park hopped. Even things like the DCA preview area had a LONG line. We got to see the holiday stuff, but I kept saying I couldn't wait to come back in the summer when it isn't so crowded! We always go in the summer and I have never seen it so busy at that. Once the Christmas stuff comes down, the parks should be very empty.

All I have to say about my one and ONLY trip to DLR for the New Year's holiday (and that includes Eve) is . While I will admit that the early part of New Year's Day was rather quiet and almost uncrowded inside DL (likely due to folks who partied the night before having to sleep in and recover from hangovers), it quickly got crowded at around noon. And New Year's Eve? As I said before, . I am one of those "never again" people. You just cannot imagine what it's like on Main Street - you think Disneyland is packed to begin with? Try it on New Year's Eve! I can't emphasize enough - . It is scary and almost suffocating, and when you are trapped in the mob of people that does not appear to move (because they want to stand there waiting for the midnight countdown), you can see no end in sight, nor any kind of opening through which to escape.

So, in a nutshell. I'd avoid DLR on New Year's Eve completely, and avoid DLR on New Year's Day after about 12 p.m.!!!

NYE is INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Imagine a 1000 summers day crowds and its still nothing!

I am in the minority though I keep going back for NYE because I love it though. Now mind you I have never actually been in DL for the countdown, but we have been in both parks on NYE.

We have gone and done dinner and the countdown in DCA twice and decided to live it up and splurge on the NYE dinner event at Napa Rose for another two years.

If you do want to do it, expect huge crowds, get there early and watch out! Every year I have been there DL sells out of tickets by the afternoon and they will only allow you in DCA. If you plan though you can have fun but don't expect to ride much and learn to work around the crowds.

I was there NYE a couple of years ago. It was completely, and utterly nuts. We had to spend from 10:00 am until 2:00 am at the park. We went NYE day, it was so busy they had to close the park (not let anyone else in around noon). We ended up having to stay all day and evening because if we left to go to the hotel for a rest we were not going to get back in. They have a huge NYE party which was fun, but they we left at the bitter end and waited forever for a shuttle back to the hotel. We didn't get into our room until almost 3:00 am!!!! It was fun, but way to busy. No plans to do it again, it was a once in a lifetime experience!!

That's funny!!! My goal wasn't NYE, I knew I wasn't up for that. My goal was to see the Christmas stuff and HMH and IASW. We saw those things so anything after that was extra. But, boy, am I not going again right after NYE! This next time I noticed APs were blocked on NY Day. Too bad because that morning was better than the next day.

Hilarious!! You're right, I haven't quite nixed the idea of NYE, even after reading all the comments - what's that about?? Maybe it is a rite of passage....

See! You (as in any one who hasn't done it) will not listen. No matter how many tell you. In fact, if anyone is like me, the more that tell me, the more I am determined that I am different and must go!

But on January 1st, you will be here posting, "okay, we had to, and omg we will never do that again."

Yes, absolutely insane. In fact, DL was CLOSED it was so full, so we had to go to DCA.

We're talking wall to wall people. It wasn't even fun.
