Hi all, my family -- me, DH, DD15, DD12 and DD9 will be at WDW for NYE. This will be our first trip during the Christmas holidays. What suggestions and tips can anyone share to make the most of New Year's Eve at the World?

TIA, Espana

My best tip? Go to Downtown Disney during the day and spend the evening at the Boardwalk. Blasphemy, I know, but I'd avoid the parks like the plague on NYE.

If you want to see the fireworks at MK, watch them from the beach at the Poly. If you absolutely MUST go into a park that day (heaven forbid it should be MK!), I will back slowly away and let others give you good advise. ;)

I agree with cleo 100%. Eventhough my family & I Have stayed at the Contemporary during New Years, we refuse to do any parks on the 31st. Besides we can watch the fireworks from our room, because last year we had a MK view on years. Plus this makes them much better to watch, then being squashed together, with hundreds of other guests not being able to even walk around.

Great question! (especially since I was wondering the same thing!).
I have an "easy (I hope) day planned for us, so far. We will do AK early, go back to the WL for dinner at WCC, then....?????? Thought about taking the boat to the CR and exploring it, then taking the monorail somewhere, then....I don't know! Good luck, have fun - that's the main thing!

If you want to take a boat to the Contemporary I don't see a problem with it. However were you planning on taking the Monorail to the Magic Kingdom for the fireworks at 12:00 AM? Because by then the Magic Kingdom will be closed off & they won't let anyone in, that includes off site guests trying to drive in or WDW Resort guests. Now if enough people leave they might let more people in, so you never know. Or were you talking about taking the Monorail to the Polynesian & then the Grand Floridian?

Oh no. I don't plan on going to any parks that night. We've never been to the Boardwalk (this is our 2nd trip), GF.... :confused3 ..Thought about doing DTD after dinner, but I expect it might be a little crowded. Maybe we'll just stay at WL and see (if we can) fireworks from MK there....

Downtown Disney would be crowded, because they might get the crowds of people that did not go to one of the 4 parks, altough sometimes during the year they can always be crowded with people, so it would be nothing new for them. Last year I went to Downtown Disney for New Years in the afternoon & left there around 7:30 PM & there were people, but it was managble to walk around.

We were at MGM last year for NYE and left before midnight because kiddos were jsut too tired (not to mention DH ;) ). We let the kids sleep in the car and planned to go to CR or GF and watch the fireworks from the parking lot and were turned away. They were not letting anyone in who was not staying at that resort. You may be able to ride the monorail over but don't plan on driving!

On New Years I know that the Magic Kingdom Resorts on the Monorail line, go into lock down mode. They want to only have guests staying with them & guests with ADR's in & no one else, so they can save parking spaces & prevent people from parking there so they can go to the Magic Kingdom, without paying the $9.00 parkng fee at the TTC.
