New Year eve

Ok, so we got our tickets through Eurostar Uk and are all set to travel to Disneyland Paris on New Years Eve. We are staying outside of the park as it was proving to be too expensive to book a park hotel but we booked quite last min because we are sure that our 5 year old will have an amazing time. Today my wife (who speaks french) phoned a number on the net (I can't locate the site at the moment) to book a restuarant and were told in no uncertain terms that because we will not arrive to the park untill late afternoon apart from not getting a table to eat the park may well be closed due to the amount of visitors and then according to my wife it sounded like it would be a one in, one out scenerio. Can this be true?I really hope not. What will we say to our daughter as we arrive at the park to be told we have very little chance of getting in to go on the rides and especially to see the fire works.

Anyone know anymore info on this. Is this really the case? Slightly worried now

I think because of the major crowd levels expected in DLRP over New Year, the official line for those arriving later on in the day is that there is a chance you may not get into the park as it may be full to capacity. Once the park is full, nobody will get in until somebody leaves as it would not be safe. Really sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but yes, they can turn you away from the Park if its full. More than likely they would recommend that you head over to the Studios....

I'm sure somebody else can confirm if this is correct or not....

I'm sorry, Bob is correct and it is very possible that they may close the gates to Disneyland Park on New Year's Eve if park capacity is reached. This only happened a couple of weekends ago and it's very likely it will happen on NYE as it's one of, if not the, busiest days of the year. The only way to guarantee being in the park is to get there early in the morning and stay all day.

I'm not wishing to be the bearer of bad news either but other DISers have reported that Main Street becomes so crowded on NYE around midnight that you literally can't move and it can be quite scary for children. Seeing as your DD is only 5 it may well turn out to be a blessing in disguise if you're not able to access the park that day. The Studios are open until 1am that day too if you're directed over there and they never seem so crowded.

You said you're staying off-site ~ which hotel are you at and will you be using the RER?

Hi ladies and Gents,

Thanks so much for replying even if it is not the news I wanted to hear.
We are travelling from Ashford in Kent straight to Disney. We are actually staying in (what looks like) a beautiful bed and breakfast / guest house a few miles away and the owner is prepared to meet us from the train station to collect our luggage while we go on to Disney. This may all change now and we may go back with him to the property if it looks like we have no chance of getting in especially if if it is freezing cold ( I expect) or raining. We chose to go to Disney Paris really to see the fire works as they look amazing (you tube) on New Years Eve. We are only have 2 nights in the area so we may go instead on New Years Day.

We would still prefer to go in the evening unless you really do believe it not worth it for a 5 year old. The last thing I want to do is to ruin the experience when we could go New Years day for the whole day. If we were to go to the studios will they have there own fire works at midnight or can you still see them well enough in the other park. Also does anyone have a number I can call when on Eurostar to see if the park is getting full or not.

Does anyone have a magic pass word / code etc to get us in the Park (if full) - special pass etc.

I also understand people who stay in hotels get to go on rides before they are even open to the rest of the general public even if they are paying the same amount for the tickets. Also I understand that the hotels book up all the restaurants on the busy days...... Or maybe I am being harsh.

To be honest I am very upset that I have bought a ticket and wasn't told at the time it wasn't for a specific date and that you could use it basically for 6 months.

What I have read between the lines / discovered (please tell me if I am wrong) but unless you are not staying in a resort hotel (where I expect even if you turn up late and the park is full you can still get in) then you are quoted as second class citizens at Disney Paris. I also understand people who stay in hotels get to go on rides before they are even open to the rest of the general public even if they are paying the same amount for the tickets. Also I understand that the hotels book up all the restaurants on the busy days...... Or maybe I am being harsh.

If the park is full, it won't matter where you are staying, or whether you have a dated ticket, or even an annual pass or a shareholder pass - you won't get in, due to health and safety issues. Annual pass holders recently received similar information in an email, to what your partner was told on the phone, for the weekend just gone. If its full to capacity, you won't get access to the main Disney park, but will be directed to the Studios. There is such a thing as Extra Magic Hours, and yes, that does allow onsite hotel guests access to the park for 2 hours before the official opening at 10am, and it does allow them to ride some rides in Fantasyland and Discoveryland. This is a perk of booking an onsite hotel room (which is probably more expensive than offsite rooms, hence the reason why the perk is offered - as an incentive to book onsite or buy a Dream Annual Pass ticket ).
As to the hotels booking up all the restaurants on busy days - no, they don't do that. The advance booking line can be used by any individual, without having to go through any agent/Disney hotel, to book tables in advance at their preferred restaurant. Obviously, the busier the time you are there, the earlier you have to reserve your table in advance to get your preferred choices of restaurant and time.

I hope you do manage to make the most of your New Years Trip to DLRP . I'm sure you will get lots of advice from other members here who have been at a similar time to you.

As you have discovered like most of us pre DISboard That there are so many tips - fastpass, extra magic hours, annual passports, shareholders club etc.
I know it is small consolation for this trip but at least you are not to far from DLP for future trips. Some of us are 000's of km away

Do I understand that you have park tickets for one day only, and they are undated tickets? If thats the case, and you really want to make the most of your time at DLRP for your daughter, I'd suggest you spend all New Years Day, from 10am to park close (or when you all drop from tiredness ) in the park instead - that way, your daughter will get to do far more rides, shows, character chasing than you would manage on New Years Eve.

I'm not sure if you'd have a great view of the fireworks from the Studios, but you might see them in the sky from the entrance to the Disney Village (which you don't need a park entrance ticket for). As the Disney Village entrance is roughly in line with the Disneyland Hotel, Main St Usa and the Castle (where the fireworks action takes place).

I've just had a look at the park schedule here and the Studios has its own fireworks for the first time this NYE. Hopefully this will may help a little with the crowds as I suspect the majority of guests would still prefer to see the Disneyland park fireworks.

Personally, however lovely DLRP's fireworks are, I myself wouldn't keep a 5 year old up to watch them, I would go back with the guest house owner and benefit from an early night and be back at the park first thing in the morning to make a full day of it as DLPdaft suggested.

DLRP has so much more to offer than fireworks and you can always arrange a return visit in the summer when there are nightly fireworks and the crowds will be less.

Of course, this is only my opinion ~ whatever you decide I hope you have a wonderful time!
