NEW Wilderness Lodge FAQ!!

dtuleya,

I can answer some of your questions, but not all.

Toiletries, I know they have Mickey Shampoo (conditioner included) and soap and lotion.

Yes, each room has a hair dryer.

I do not know the costs of the mugs, but you can only refill them when Roaring Forks is open. Roaring Forks is not open 24 hrs./day. I think it opens around 6:30 or 7, but there is a sign. It is open until 11???? at night.

The refills are coffee, hot chocolate, and soft drinks, coke products, orange and lemonade too.

We always stop for groceries, milk, water, juice on the way to the lodge. There is a small area in Merchantile store, in the back where you can buy milk and water.

Enjoy, we cannot wait to get there in 25 days. :D

As mentioned above the Mercantile does have some groceries, milk, etc, however, I also would purchase them before arrival. Roaring Forks I believe closes at midnight, at least it did in May. Although RF does have ice cream bars, only the Mercantile has those delicous, yummy, melt in my mouth Haagen Daaz ice cream bars. As for room assignment, ask what's available at checkin. If you decide to upgrade to concierge, but don't like the view, stick with your courtyard view room/no concierge. I've found the CM's at registration are very helpful, and will try to meet your requests if they can.

Denise,

The toiletries that are in your room will be soap and a combination shampoo/conditioner. I personally like to bring my own conditioner with me b/c the combo stuff doesn't work well for me.

The mugs cost $9.99 + tax apeice. We used ours every time we headed out for the boat... It worked very well. There were 2 different types to chose from (this was from our trip of 2 months ago) - one mug looked more like a tall, kinda thin Aladdin brand coffee or hot chocolate type mug and the other looked a little shorter, but fatter - the more traditional looking refillable mug. We got the 2nd.

At the villa, there were 2 different types of coffee packs that were left - one was a decaf and the other was regular... A new set was left each morning at no charge.

On our way from the airport, going to the WL - we had stopped at a Publix right off the interstate. I remember that it was on the right side - don't go to that Publix unless you have change b/c there is an un-manned toll booth if you take this exit. We had no change and didn't know what to do... You can't leave a dollar bill and just go thru. It accepts only quarters so we didn't know what to do. We just had to drive thru without paying the toll and a very loud alarm went off. I'm still waiting for a ticket to come in the mail from this, but there was nothing we could do. We couldn't back up back on the interstate, so I just don't know. If you go to a supermarket, my suggestion is pulling off at the Super Target that you can see from the interstate on the left side... It was just opened last year, so you may not remember seeing it. There is sooooooo much construction going on that every time we are driving from the airport we see new schools, plenty of new subdivisions, grocery stores, etc.

Have a wonderful time.

Mimi

*I've read about upgrades to concierge for an added charge if there are rooms available. We have a courtyard view reserved, so according to previous posters, we could expect to pay an extra $35/night if it is available. Here's my question...should I fax that in my request or wait until checking. We'll be arriving the Friday morning before Thanksgiving so I know that occupancy will be up the week we are staying. Also, from what I understand, view choice is not guaranteed. Is this correct? So we might get stuck in a standard view in concierge. I'm totally confused and don't know which way to go if concierge is offered. HELP!

Dtuleya had a great question, I'd like to know too! :teeth: Thanks everyone! :p

Got back from a wonderful stay at WL 11/3-11/8. We requested a standard room & got it - 6048 which did overlook the service area but at night could see the fireworks at MK - beautiful! The beeping trucks never bothered us & I am a light sleeper.
Dtuleya - the cost for the mugs has increased to $10.99 & tea is also included in the list.
Thank you to all who have posted before (especially Humphrey the bear) as I was well informed & it definitely enhanced our trip. We did inquire about being a flag family but it was filled up until 11/10. If anyone has questions, please feel free to ask.

We will be at WL for my husbands birthday and we want a King Bed. But my question is, Do they have any rooms with a King bed and a tub?

I have read that the King Bed Rooms have just showers.

Please tell me I can get a big bed with a big tub!

Also, what is the phone number to fax room requests to at WL?

:-) Thanks a bunch!

Where exactly was your room 6048 with respect to the boat docks?, pool?, elevator? lobby? What side of the U were you on? THANKS

ANOTHER QUESTION TO EVERYONE -
Has anyone taken the pontoon boats out to see the MK fireworks? I have one reserved for 12/15 but do not want to foot the bill for the entire boat ($120 plus tip) for only us 3. Does anyone have any advice on how to fill my boat when I get there or prior to getting there? Is there anyway I could inquire when I get there to see if anyone else has room for 3 on their boat? Maybe I'm just going about this all wrong. I'd really like to do this with my 4 yr old daughter and DH. Thanks again for any input you can give regarding the pontoon FW boats.

NJPhyl,
If you stand in the lobby & face the pool area/water fall/lake area, 6048 was to the left & down that hall. The elevator by Roaring Forks/laundry room was around the bend & the main elevator by Merchantil store was a little farther, but not by much. We took the RF elevator to get to the pool as well. I thought it was convenient to all although to take the bus, that was all the way on the opposite side. Hope that helps :D

Hi,

We are DVC members, but we have not stayed at our home, WLV yet. We are thinking about staying in a one-bedroom villa next Thanksgiving (2003). However, we don't know if one of our family members can make the trip. Our question is: How flexible is the room use situation in the WLV? We are a family of 4 adults and one 3 year old; DH, DW, DS21, DD14, DD3. DS21 may not be able to make the trip, but we would like to keep the option open for him. We don't want to have to rent an extra room on the off chance that he might be able to make it, yet we would like to be able to fit him into the one-bedroom with us if he can make it. We figured that we could have our DD3 sleep in a crib or on a cot. Is this do-able?

Thanks for your help.

Denis

Here's the link to where to go for information on Illuminations Cruises for the month of December. You can post your available seats there and split the cost with another family.

NJPhyl We shared a cruise from the Beach Club in September. I found a forum that you can match up with people who have booked a cruise or book one yourself and get others to join you. We went with someone who had room to share, that way it only cost about $17 or $18 Go to the main discussion forum and click on The Trip Planning Forum then click on Theme Park Attrations and Strageties It is the third thread titles Illumination Cruises. I hope this helps. Paulaken:

Bear Necessaties-

When we checked in at 3ish on our first day the first 7 days were already booked for Flag Family!

Lucky for us we had a ten day stay and all three additional days were available!

I chose to do it on the last day! What a cool way to end our stay! The views are unbelievable!

We checked out @ 11 and our flight was at noonish so otherwise it would have been a nonvacation type day!

Another unbelievable view - even if you don't go down the slide climb up to the top of the big waterslide at Blizzard Beach! I wish I had my camera with me (wouldn't have been good on the ride down though!) The views are SPECTACULAR!

and I cannot say it enough - if you are an early riser - sneak out to the jacuzzi! At 6:30 am it is AWESOME! Noone is around - the waterfall - the sunrising and the spectacular lodge! I got my Hot Chocolate - coffee mix (my own mocha;) ) and sat in the hot jacuzzi for an hour!
I asked the security guy if it was ok - no prob - the signs basically protect them if they have to get rid of noisy groups!

Our room 4007 was pretty far from the elevator (which are REALLY FAST elevators) but right above the exit to the pool - boat dock! When we didn't have a stroller this was VERY convenient!

I am an early riser and Roaring Forks was always open when I needed it! 6am maybe to midnight I believe!

The mugs are 10.99 but worth every penny!

dtuleya & paulaken -
Thank you so much. I was already aware of that forum and made a post regarding my reserved boat but so far, no one has come forth with interest. I have until 24 hrs ahead to cancel with no penalty, I guess I'm just getting anxious. These forums have offered a wealth of information and for that I am grateful to all.

Patty T I second the vote for the jacuzzi at 6 - 7 am. If you're an early riser It is a great way to relax. One morning in May I watched several hot air balloons fly right over WL while I relaxed in the jacuzzi. What a great way to start the day!

Hi All...Lets see if I remember the questions...
Yes there are King Beds with a bath tub, but as always there are no guarantees..
Concierge rooms have all different views, so yes you can be over the delivery area...if such is the case, you can request a courtyard view with concierge access...
The toiletries are nominal at best ...soap and shampoo...
You may request a coffee maker in the room and there is no charge for the coffee and sweeteners...coffe mate too....
As far as shopping (grocery store), most guests go to Cross Roads shopping Center ( WAY too expensive)...My suggestion is to go a little farther down the road to Winn Dixie and there is an ABC Liquor store there as well..( I do not own stock in either company)...The prices at Cross Roads is ridiculous....
Any more question, please feel free to ask....I was away for a while, due to my work schedule.....Have a Magical Day.......

Ask Mickey! Just wanted to say GLAD you're back! You and HumphreytheBear have been greatly missed!
NancyL

AskMickey:

I second NancyL -- glad to see you're back. I noticed your post on the WL Christmas Tree about the date it will be going up, and I thought, "Hey! I recognize that name, and he would definitely know the answer! I was about to tell everyone on this thread that you were still around when I saw that you posted here, too.

We can always use your help!

In fact...... I read that WL and the Polynesian did a ladybug release. Does either resort still do that?

Thanks!
