New website stayatwdw.com?

Well it seems pretty straightforward. You can rent from a DVC owner on these boards, not know who you are dealing with, send money to someone you don't know, hope they'll hold the reservation for you, and you can't cancel. Or...you could use a professional service.

Dave and Paul have been around longer and they are heavily advertised on these boards. They have their policies and if you are willing to adhere to them, those services provide a useful option.

This new site seems legit. I sent a couple of e-mails and got quick replies. They couldn't get me the resort I wanted, but their prices are good and they got back to me very quickly, with alternate resorts. I have to decide if I want to take what's available (I don't think the other services have better access to availability) or if I want to change my dates.

Magical Express is available with all Disney reservations. Free dining isn't. The dining plan can be added. I think that I might be able to find cheaper, but I don't think I can find easier, friendlier, faster.

Thanks so much for introducing this website! My DH is booking one of the EPCOT resorts for this OCT for 5 nights. I'm crossing my fingers for it because we couldn't get availablity through David's Rental. I still have my FD reservation for CSR, keeping that until i know for sure we got it. All else fails, we just have our good time at CSR. Win, Win....

But thank you so much for these boards and all the great info.:cool1:

Good luck with the res, but mu guess would be there is just no availability...Oct is VERY popular at the Epcot area resorts because of Food & Wine!

If you rent points (from any of these companies) do you have the option of requesting room location (which I know is not a guarantee). For example, we are thinking of OKW next May and have heard varying things about which buildings to request. Can you do this if you reserve with one of these companies or do you take pot luck?

The only thing I would question about this site, is the banner that says every room is automatically upgraded to a deluxe category. :confused3

There are no upgrades when booking with DVC unless you pay for it.

Uh-oh. I just looked and saw the same thing. Big red flag. There's no 'deluxe' category at any DVC resort. The only upgrade would be to the next size larger villa, and the company would have to use something like twice as many points as you're paying for to do that. A free upgrade from a studio to a one bedroom? Or a two bedroom to a grand villa? On every reservation? I don't think so.

Right there, that would prevent me from booking with this company.

So I contacted them like I said earlier. they were very nice and helpful. I e-mailed and spoke with them. If you are so opposed to booking with them, don't. It is apparent you just want to do it your way -- which is fine. But why make it seem like no one else should?

Magruders likes them and booked a trip -- she only has wonderful things to say. Cait liked them even though she couldn't get her dates. I thought they were very honest--they couldn't get my dates, suggested other resorts, answered all my questions.

If anyone wants to book a trip with Stay At WDW, let them. It seems a bit too territorial on this boards. Renting DVC has the same rules for everybody. I don't think "this company" is doing anything differently, except being nicer and less expensive than the alternatives. And giving gift cards.

If you don't want to use them -- don't. Why not e-mail them and see what they can do for you? But why be so negative just because you don't understand?

I really don't think that's what you're seeing. The posters that are more skeptical don't have any overt bias to other renting sites that I have ever seen. They are just more experienced, and we've all seen sad instances on the DVC boards of people who got taken. That's all - they are offering cautions. There are red flags as Lynne stated. They may be meaningless and just marketing hyperbole intended for those who don't know any better (which bugs me anyway) but they are red flags to those who do know better, nonetheless.

I have never rented points except from an individual here on the boards once, so I have no vested interested in recommending any company, and would only base my recommendations (or not) on reading thousands of posts on the DIS.

It is actually not what you are thinking.

It is a marketing tool for someone that is comparing a Disney rack rate room to a DVC room. We know it's not an upgrade as we are versed on the boards so it looks like something bad. To the average person, it is an upgrade. The first thing i thought when pricing out our stay was wow, I can get a moderate for a deluxe price. That is how I had read it when i was checking the site out. I also just confirmed it with the company.

You're not going to get a two-bedroom for the price of a one.
You're not getting Bay Lake Tower for price of Old Key West.
You are getting DVC room for price of a regular Disney moderate resort room.

We all know how DVC renting works. "Stay At WDW" isn't doing anything differently than anyone else. They aren't looking to steal people off the boards.

I can rent a room off the DVC-TRADE board for $9 a point. But who am I renting it from?
And what if it doesn't work? And what if he cancels my reservation?

I don't think they should be criticized for good marketing, fast & friendly service, and a different system than the others. I asked them how much is it per point. They don't even charge per point, they charge per night. And there is no extra charge for Fridays and Saturdays.

If you want to compare a DVC rental on the TRADE BOARD to this company, it's a completely different process. Dave's rentals are more expensive than the Trade Board too. If you are interested in the company, send them an e-mail or call them. If you are happy doing a rental all by yourself, great.

For the heck of them I gave them my Christmas trip dates. Within the hour they emailed me back. I couldn't get a room at the resort I wanted for all the dates I needed so I am not using this service, but if that quick response is any indication of how they do business, I will use them in the future.

Well, as one of the owners of the company in question, let me say, my what a spirited and passionate group. I am always up for lively discussion.

At the outset of this response, this isn't an endorsement or commercial posting - just a clarification - I'm not even going to mention the name of the company as, that I believe would be considered commercial in nature.

DVC does in fact have a "Deluxe Category" - in the form of a DVC Deluxe Studio. Of course, that is the standard (entry-level tiered) room for DVC owners and guests. However, to those unaware of DVC and these types of boards, and for those who rely on agents or Disney directly, the standard room isn't laid out quite as nicely as a DVC "standard" room. So, in this precise case, such a room is an upgrade.

Of course we don't try to improperly entice people into a 2BR Villa at the price of a 1BR - you're right, that would be a prohibitively expensive free upgrade and does not exist with us. Again for the average Joe and Jo, looking at the most affordable Deluxe Disney stay, it's an upgrade. For all those here who are especially in the know, it's not an upgrade if you only ever book through sources herein. No confusion was intended by this marketing approach.

If they are renting out a DVC stay, there IS an extra charge for Fridays and Saturdays. And when you move to a more expensive season time during your stay. They are just averaging out the total points for the entire stay. So you are being charged MORE for the Sun through Thur nights if you are paying the same for Fri and Sat.

Well, one more response then we have to shut down for the day - we've been at it 12 hours so far.

We don't charge extra for weekends per se - as in a weekend getaway. That's the point we were trying to make in the slide on our website. Again, we prefer to compare our pricing models to Disney directly, not the varied options available here and elsewhere.

We are a small business, located in Orlando, and trying to make it - by creating awesome and affordable Disney experiences. We're not trying to trick anybody. We're not trying to up-sell anybody. This is basically two college buddies who both really like Disney and came up with this idea - with its extra nice nuances.

I think it's a lot more cut & dried and innocent & decent in its intentions than some may be crediting.

Well, good night everybody and have magic dreams.

I don't know why you have to explain yourself. Some people on these boards will never be happy. Unless you open your own theme park & resort, everyone has to play by Disney's rules. You have a great website and some very satisfied customers. You don't charge more for a weekend nite. I've checked your prices -- 4 nights is the same no matter which days I looked; I think that's GREAT.

Deb & Bill and Lynne and Vicki obviously have too much free time as they have over 60,000 combined posts. If they can come up with a better plan, let them. If they don't want to, why give you grief that you did? [Really? She couldn't go away unless she checked the boards to see if it's okay?]

Do they call McDonalds and tell them Burger King has seeded buns? Or tell Pepsi that Coke tastes better? There is more than enough Disney to go around and if you are trying to help people have a great vacation and they are willing, eager, and happy about it (Magruder couldn't be more excited about her trip!), why should anybody else criticize?

You didn't invent anything new, but you are offering a fast, friendly, fun take on it and I would be happy to check back with you again.

I guess the deluxe room situation is simply all in the way you look at terminology. Disney classifies it resorts as value, moderate, deluxe and deluxe villa.

I personally do not find a deluxe studio to be an upgrade over a deluxe resort room in fact, due to the fact all DVC studios only have one bed, except for OKW I find it a lesser product. Also DVC resorts are not rehabbed as often as Disney resorts.

Same as with the weekend situation. Unless they are only booking week stays, if someone wants to book a 3 night stay over the weekend, yes those points are going to be more expensive than a weekday stay.

I just think that what others are trying to say is that the way it is stated; it could possibly be misleading to some.

As to Deb, Lynne and others that have many posts, look at their join date.

I think anytime a new product comes online it is a good idea to have open discussion. :thumbsup2

Ok folks... put simply..

If you have questions about this business, see the business. The DIS message boards do not allow other companies to execute support questions for their business (conduct business) on the DIS.

The discussion couldn't stay civil. Incidentally, this is not the board for discussion about point rental. There are very specific rules about DVC on the DIS for legal protection - ours and yours. One of them is -- all of it in the correct place with moderators versed in the ins-and-outs of it all. This is not that board.
