I saw the new WDW gift cards last night. They have them next to just about every cash register at DTD. They are a little blue card with Mickey on it. I was told that you can get them for any amount up to several thousand dollars. They are refillable and can be used for merchandise, dining and other park type things. I don't believe they can be used to pay for hotels.

I will be getting these for my friends kids when they come for a visit.

Oh, very nice, and thanks for sharing the info. Will these be replacing Disney Dollars or just an additional option?

Awesome! This will be a good way to "prepay" for some things on vacation!

I haven't heard anything about them replacing Disney Dollars. I think it is just a new option. Everyone else has gift cards. Why not Disney?

Are they available for sale anywhere else?
I'd love this much more than carrying around a stack of Disney Dollars (we had $1200 of those suckers last trip and they were a hassle to remember to bring $100 each day, etc). :)

Disney Dollars can be exchanged for cash. Gift cards cannot.

Gift cards may have annual fees, check the terms and conditions.

Gift cards don't do anything that cash or credit cards cannot do.

Unofficial statistics (as heard on Paul Harvey's new commentary) suggest that half the value of all gift cards and gift certificates is never redeemed.

Stores love to sell gift cards because they get the money into their coffers permanently sooner, that is why gift cards are so visible in the store.

I don't know if they will be available elsewhere.

Hi Feralpeg!! Finally someone who knows something about the new gift cards!! :cool1: Do you know if they can be used anywhere in Disney??
For all shopping, all food carts, all restaurants??? You get It???
If Disney accepts $$ for everything will they accept this gift card :earboy2: I want to purchase one with my disney dollars so I won't have a stack of money to carry around.
  I wouldn't need this to pay for my room.

these are a great idea! will there be a 1-800 type of number to refill them on so that we can keep filling them throughout the yr?? thanks for the info!!

There is no annual fee.

There also is no fee if your balance remains unused.

I'm not Feralpeg, but - I don't know the length to which they will be able to be used. I don't think they'll extend to water parks, as they said they'll be introducing a seperate type of card for that.

The information I was given said "select Operating Participants", so I'm not too sure what that includes.

I believe that is correct. I also heard that there would be a different card for the water parks. I'm also not sure if all food carts will initially be able to take them. I'll try to find out and pass the info along when I do.

:sunny: Thanks for the info feralpeg and snackystacky!! :cheer2: I'm not concerned with the water parks. We buy disney dollars and use them to pay for all our food and spending sprees. A friend of mine is leaving Saturday for Disney & Universal I'll ask her to see if there is any type of booklet you get when you purchase this gift card that might explain exactly what it can be used for. :Pinkbounc

thats great news, the old disney gift cards couldnt be used at the parks so this is perfect timing for our november trip & wedding in march as i wanted to gift disney money to our wedding party, does anyone know if you can buy these new gift cards online or by phone?

A friend and I were just saying that Disney gift cards would be a great idea, and they have them! Terrific! Thanks for passing the info along.

I'm wondering if there will be an advantage to using the gift cards opposed to charging to room card. Any opinions? Advice appreciated.

>>> You can use the gift card at the waterpark food & beverage and merchandise locations. What they're introducing later is a smaller version of the Gift Card that you'll be able to wear around your wrist or bathing suit.

As for the Operating Participants...from what I understand, most of the operating participants can accept the Gift Card. Only a handful don't. My friend told me that they just have to have the right technology. Also, the Operating participants don't sell the gift card....just redeem it. I heard too that you can use the gift card at recreational stuff like the water mice!

I am sure that everyone here knows this, but posting this just to be sure........The Disney Store is no longer operated by Disney. This means leftover $ on WDW gift cards will not be able to be used back home at your local Disney store. :sunny:

Who operates the Disney Stores now? This explains why they don't have a Disney catalogue anymore. I wonder how this will affect the merchandise that they carry.

Does anyone know if these gift cards can be purchased at a Disney resort?
Or just at Downtown Disney??? :wave2:
