WOW, Maria!! That is truly an amazing accomplishment! Thank you for sharing your news with us. We are EXTREMELY PROUD OF YOU!!! :woohoo:

I know I'm not on your team, but shouldn't a 3 1/2 hour test count as a half marathon???;)

YEAH!!!!! MARIA

I really understand how you feel. I'm an optician and not every state requires a licence, my state Kentucky does. I was very pleased when I passed my boards.

Here is another interesting link. This to a lady's web site who was ranked #1 in the world in 2004 and #4 in 2004. She is on the Aussie Olympic team and will be racewalking in China's Olympic games this summer.

Congratulations Maria, My licensure test was pretty tough for me so I can relate. Yeah!! you did it!!

AWESOME!!!

-Tracy

I did my training walk tonight---
3.10 miles in 43:12.89 that's an average 13:57 pace - My fastest so far!!!
I hope I do well in my judged racewalk on Saturday and place well. Last year I got 3rd in a group of about 6 ladies. I have one more training run on Thursday evening and then do the "Run Like A Bunny 5K" on Saturday in Pompano Beach.

SamSam: Thanks for the support.:cool1:
After my training walk on Thrusday as soon as I got home I had to RUN to the bathroom! I was having horrible cramping and diarrhea(hate to say that, but it happens), didn't eat dinner. Then I got the chills and was shaking pretty bad, I could not get warm. I put myself in a hot tub and sat there until I stopped shaking. Then I just relaxed in bed. Had water and watched TV. I went to bed, but then had 3 more small episodes. Used Immodium. Got up and stomach was still alittle bit rumbly. Only had dry cereal, toast, yogurt, crackers and tonight chicken broth, crakers, and alittle bit of peanut butter. I hope I do well tomorrow at my 5K judged racewalk :confused3 .
We'll see.

Good luck tomorrow. Please tell us all about it. The judges usually set up on the down hill portions and the turns since that is where most people have the most trouble. I take the turn a little wide to give myself more room to keep technique.

Tracy, I hope your troubles are over before the race.pixiedust:

As everyone knows, since I have such a big mouth, I have been stretching a lot more as the magic bullet to increase my athletic performance. I'm beginning to see some results. I'm more flexiable and move easier. It will be a while before I know how it's going to affect my speed and endurance.

One of the big problems with an injury layoff is loss of endurance. The LSD workouts become more important than ever. They do 2 important things; build your endurance back up but also build your strength back up. Like weight lifting, even lots of reps with light weights is very beneficial.

Once I build back to where I can do speed intervals in probably about 2 weeks I'll know how much the stretching is helping. My fastest walking laps on the track (400m) were 2 min 16 sec. I think by mid year I should be back to 100%.

So experimental "Strecth for success" continues.

Walk strong y'all.

Hey I was able to do my racewalk this morning, even though I was only having toast, dry cereal, gingerale, chicken broth and crackers yesterday.

It was a nice morning in Pompano Beach, FL early with temps at 68degrees and was 77degrees when I left. Start time was 7:30am and racewalkers started 2 minutes later. There were many more racewalkers than I thought in the yellow bibs. They also started the fitness walkers with the racewalkers. Countdown and away we went.
Four older gentleman took off and one other women was with them and then me. One other guy passed me and then at about mile one an older lady passed me ( I found later that she is 83 or something like that ) I look down at my Garmin and realized that the pace was very fast and faster than my norm. I decided to lay back alittle bit, I always kinda start out slow and then get better. Also my shins were talking to me because my pace was alittle more than I am used to. I started catching up to the runners that were now walking, doing a pretty good pace around 13:40 or so when I would look down at my Garmin.
At about 1 1/2 miles, I started to catch up to the man that passed me before. He had on a red tank with something about London Pacers and had Canada on it. My goal at this point was to get up to him or pass him. I knew there were no others really behind me to pass me. At 2.50 miles I was walking right beside the man. We talked alittle bit. As we got closer I could see the women who was in 2nd place (the older one) and thought if I really killed myself I could catch up to her, but I decided I liked my position and the company. When there was about .10 left to the finish I was trying to get him to go faster with me and finish hard, I ended up passing him up and getting myself across the finish line. I waited for him and gave him a high five.
I did a Personal Best :cool1: somewhere around 42min:15sec. I forgot to turn off my Garmin right at the end. And I can't remember what the Official clock said.
I placed 3rd and that was nice. Here's a photo of me with my trophy:
(Notice the "UNofficial" WISH green shirt - it's as close as I could get.)

When I get my "Official" time I will let you all know about it.
OK now on to train for the Minnie.... tomorrow is 5miles.

GO WALKERS!!!

Tracy, I loved this part, " When there was about .10 left to the finish I was trying to get him to go faster with me and finish hard, I ended up passing him up and getting myself across the finish line. I waited for him and gave him a high five. Girl you have a very Special Heart!

Hi to all the walkers! I'm finding that I am doing a lot of that these days. No more wogging for a long time.

:worship: to all you walkers!

I just thought I'd post a PSA here for those doing the Minnie who haven't visited that thread in a while. There is a poll for where we want to meet. Don't forget to post your opinion on the Minnie Marathon WISH Meet.

Congratulations, Tracy!

You rock, girl!

Everyone else: So sorry I have been MIA....big events going down here. We are having a visitor this week (Wednesday). My younger daughter is coming to celebrate Easter with us and she is bringing along the love of her life.....quite possibly our future SIL. This will be our first time meeting, so we are hard at work getting things in order with a big spring cleaning. I'm also trying to plan activities and menus and still get my workouts in. Hope to get back to normal once the holiday is over.

JEANNEG (Jean?)
Thanks for much for the congratulations!!

WALKERS ARE AWESOME - WE ROCK!!!

 :yay: :dance3: :cool1: :cheer2:
