Just checking in, everyone. My week has been yuck. I've been swamped with work (coming home and working until after 10 pm every night) because of a deadline, and today my throat hurts and my nose is running and I feel icky all over. We have a party for DH's bd tomorrow, and I need to pull it together tonight to bake the cake!

Sorry for Erica's bunion, glad Panda is awake and back to training, and well done to everyone getting in those walky miles/hours.

I've been lurking but have not had much time to post.

Dave--- Glad that you dental work went well. Good luck to Erica with her doctor appointment. I know how difficult it is to work when you are having foot problems. I cover an entire hospital and when I had problems with PF I dreaded late in the day when I had to walk a long distance to do a patient in the new area of our hospital which is like 1/2 mile away.

Robert--- I saw that you moved. I hope you and Linda are enjoying your new place. Will you be having your other surgery soon?

Thanks Dave for the link to those stretch exercises. All I have to say is that 75 year old man is much more flexible than I am. I have been taking Pilates but need to get back into the stretch classes.

Nancy, I haven't heard from you forever, how ya been princess? Yes the not stretching is counter productive to what we are doing but when we are training well we don't even think about it. The stiffness does finally catch up with us.

Stretchy Panda:hippie:

LTO big time last week. We had new windows put in and it took me all week to get my house back in order. Plus I am trying to finalize all my upcoming vacations, it is my part time job as the family travel agent. May is completed for the Minnie weekend. Now working on the Aug DL/ Panama canal cruise which we are taking with Jeanne and John.

However, I am keeping up with my training and helping Team Ohana. We even had a couple of nice days where I could walk outside. Looking forward to Daylight Saving Time as it will be nice to have the extra hour of light after work.

You and Erica need to get healthy so we can all do ToT in Oct. That is the next trip I will be working on. We plan to do a full week for that trip so we can do F&W.

Nancy

Panda, Thanks for the link on stretching. I have to admit to being guilty of not stretching enough and then paying the price later with tight muscles, etc.

PANDA: Thanks for the reminder about stretching. I try to do some kind of stretching before and some after a good walk. I probably should do more, so thanks for the reminder!!

Woke up this morning to thunderstorms, lightening, and wind. There is also a Tornado watch, and it is almost over. I am watching the satellite and waiting for a clearing so I can go out and try to do 4 miles. It was 76 when I woke up and it now 72, so I guess we are getting a cool front coming through.:rotfl: We welcome the rain because our main fresh water source at Lake Okeechobee is and has been below normal for quite some time.
I think maybe another 30min or 1hr and I can get out and do it. (I don't own a TM, would love to have one, but just don't know what to get and can't spend alot of money and it would need to be one that folds up or something-not alot of room to leave it out-.)
Hope all is better with all you walkers and good walking to everyone!

-Tracy

Has anyone heard from Sandy 321? She hasn't posted for a while. We are also missing Kim, HockeyChick, anyone????

I know a lot of our team are international playboys and girls and they go on long adventures but we worry when someone who was a regular poster doesn't come around for a while.

Well the liquid diet this week has been worth a 4.4 lb weight loss without even trying. I will be running screaming into the night at the very sight of soup after this is over but hey I wanted to drop a few pounds of fluff.

Walk strong, those of you who can get out. We are snowed in here.

Snowed in Panda:hippie:

Hi Walkers!

I am just back from my 5k, the Tough Enough, it was a fund raising event for breast cancer. I believe that I am the Queen of Inaugeral Races, of the last five races I have done, four of them have been Inaugeral Events. But I have to say, that this one the Southwestern Oklahoma University Tough Enough 5K in Weatherford, Oklahoma came off beautifully! I would never have believed, as well run as this race was, that it was the very first one. We raised $3,600 for Breast Cancer and had a great time. The race wound aroung the campus and the town. Some of you may not know this, but Oklahoma isn't flat. This race had some serious hills! Fortunately, for the racers, the organizers left the downhill parts for last!

My granddaughter did the event with me. She is 10. She was tired and didn't really want to finish the second half, but she got a break, tied her shoe and kept up with me. Her pace was kind of a walk, walk, skip, jog, walk, walk! But she hung in and she was pretty happy with it, too. She took first in her bracket! I took second, but we both came home with medals.

My granddaughter is all for training, and getting more medals and more t-shirts and more goody bags! Although, she was tired, she thought it was great fun. Especially when they hung the gold medal around her neck. I, of course, was thrilled to have a medal too. I don't even mind that it's silver!

CONGRATULATIONS, CONNIE!! :woohoo: :woohoo:
Way to go to you AND your granddaughter!! Good job on setting a GREAT example for her to follow, too!!

We lived in OKC for almost 2 years. That has been my hesitation in signing up for the OKC Memorial 1/2, I KNOW there are hills!! ;) The pacing is generous, though. Looking forward to your DETAILED report on that one!! :yay:

CONGRATULATIONS, Connie and Granddaughter!:cheer2:

I am so looking forward to the time when my grandson will want to walk with me.

Yeah CONNIE!! You did it!!

Maherae (Nancy): I was finally able to get out there around 8am or so. It's pretty clear now with temps at 5:15pm at 71, but is suppose to drop tonight to somewhere in the 50s. We do appreciate the cooler weather down here. I opened the windows when it hit 75 and there is still alittle bit of a breeze. VERY NICE!!!! (anything to save on the FPL bill)

Windwalker-Panda: congrats on the weight with your liquid diet:thumbsup2 . I'm not brave enough to do that.

:shamrock:Yes, it's almost time for St. Patricks Day!!!:shamrock:

GO GO GO Wish Walkers!!:cool1:

Congratulations Connie and GD:cheer2: How fun to do it with her.

Dave-- What a way to love 4 pounds. Now I'll be interested if it stays off. I usually find that when I lose weight that way, it seems to come right back.

We have had alot of rain in the past 24 hrs, but at least it isn't snow.

Well Nancy I weighted 155 to 160 forever and then after I retired and got lazy I went up to 200. I got my act together and the 170 to 180 range became the norm. If I can just eat more better good I should do fine. (That's Kentucky speak for eat properly).

Walk like a Panda:hippie:

I plan to start my "official" Half Marathon training today! Plus...DBF bought us a tredmill yesterday. Normally $599.99 marked down to $149.99 at Sears.

Hi Everybody!

I am so far behind, I can't begin to catch up, so I'll just do a little update on me and jump in from here.

I scaled my mileage back on Saturday because we had a birthday party for ds, and my time was limited. Yesterday I did 4.2 miles, so that was good. Today I'll be on the bike for crosstraining. I am so ready for Spring! We have sunshine, but I'd really like a 60 degree day. I guess it will come eventually!

For those that don't know me well -- I am a grants professional with about 15years of experience. I am a member of the American Association of Grantwriting Professionals. This organization has been working for the last five years or so to create a professional credential specifically for grant professionals, as one did not exist. A professional credential means that in order to earn the credential you must first be qualifed to take a test, then take a psychometric test, which has been created through a rigorous process. The qualification process usually involves submitting an application/resume with your accomplishments and experience as well as references. The certification process was finally ready to go last Fall. I submitted my application in September, and was invited to take the test in November. The test consisted of 4 hours to complete multiple choice questions, and 90 minutes to prepare a written section. It took me about 3 1/4 hours, to do the multiple choice, and 75 minutes for the written part. I was very nervous after I finished, because the test is truly for generalists, and although I have worked in both the private and government arenas, I've been doing strictly government work for the past 7 years. There were many questions where I really was guessing. Anyway, I finally got my results last week, and I passed! Right now, there are 170 credentialed grants professionals nationwide, and I am one of four in New England. So, anyone who sees my designation (potential employer) should feel confident that I can do anything grants-related with excellence.

This was the hardest test I've taken since I defended my thesis to get my Masters, so I am pleased as punch. I don't often have exciting life news to share, so I wanted to let my DIS family know!

Maria :cloud9:

CONGRATULATIONS, MARIA!!!!

You deserve to be proud.....well done indeed!

Everyone else: sorry this is just a drive-by......busy, busy, busy! Hope everyone is doing well.
