"Steve" must be busy since he's the one that emailed me that they had received my 1/2 marathon registration.

I met Steve at the Flying Pig Marathon Expo up in Cincinnati. He is a huge bear of a man with an obvious bodybuilder background and speaks in words that have no more than 4 letters. He is in mortal fear of the cotton that comes in an asprain bottle. Something about it wiping his memory clean.

I have to work early today so I will not get to go to the gym today. I'll be back at the stretching this evening. My achillies is a little better every day. Not sore to the touch anymore and no pain with every step now. Still tender when I first get out of bed though.

Have an awesome day everyone. This is the panda staying out of trouble today.

Hi Everyone!

We're feeling better and getting back into life. I did 4.5 miles TM yesterday, and I'll be enjoying a stationary bike ride later. I'm adding 3 more minutes, which hopefully will net me another mile. :woohoo:

Dave -- So glad to hear your achilles is getting better! I know you are very frustrated, but it sounds as though things are coming along:dance3:

Denise -- When I received an extra Donald medal in the mail (I did get mine, but I must have finished around the time the confusion started), the accompanying letter was signed by Steve. He's a busy guy!

Robert -- Big Mouse is watching! Better mind your ps and qs!:goodvibes

Miranda -- I hope we get to meet you and your mom this year. I was really disappointed we missed you.:guilty:

Nancy -- Ok, so you have to tell us why it's better to walk back to your resort after ToT. Did you have an endless wait?:confused3

Jeanne -- I'm going to check out WALK magazine. Hopefully it won't end up unread in my basket with issues going back to October for Fitness, Shape, etc.

Duckie -- I bet you pass plenty of runners!:cool1:

Kathy -- Now I need one of those shirts. Great phrase!

Moto -- It sounds like you are doing great without the book, but I bet you will love it!:lovestruc

Everyone have a great walking day!

Thanks. I just don't know how much more to add at a time. Yesterday I did the eleiptical for 20 min. Today I plan to do another 5K on the TM and try to do it a little faster.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe the general rule of thumb is not to increase more than 10% for your weekly mileage. I defer to much more experienced folk like Dave and Robert.

I really want to start walking/jogging outside but how will I know the distance I have gone? I was think of getting in my car and driving 1 1/5 miles and seeing how far I get. Then I know where to turn around for a 5K.

The 10% rule applies to time or distance. Increasing too fast will only lead to injuries which will stop you all together. Then you will have to start all over again and hopefully at the 10% a week.

Good training. Just take your time and enjoy. You will get there:thumbsup2

Thanks for clarifying, Robert. The Dave McGovern plan has a jump from 2.5 hours to 3.5 hours on the long day in back to back weeks--that seemed like too much for me. I think I'll stick with MfM as far as training schedules, although I think the drill and speedwork in the McGovern book looks helpful.

Random question for anyone with an opinion: if I do strength work and I'm sore the next day, should I stretch those areas or leave 'em alone to rebuild? :confused3 I've seen both suggestions--one that said the tiny tears need to be left alone, and one that said stretching those areas will bring more blood and help the baby tears heal faster...

Stretching is the best. Dear Robert and I would probably not be walking wounded if we had been better stretchers. I'm going to change that and be the stretch king for a while.

Good morning Walkers.

I had a dream last night that I contacted the new first lady after the election, in my dream it was still Laura Bush. I told her that 60 percent of the american population was overweight, and taking on that problem could be her legacy.

Robert did the web site and we started promoting walking to the nation. We had really cool track suits and tech shirts we could order on the web site really cheap. Everything had to be made in the USA by american owned companies.

Back to reality, we have an ice storm on the way, OH GOODY!

I'm off to the gym for some stretching and calistetics, oh I miss my walking. Maybe next week.

PandaDave: I think you SHOULD call the first lady and start this going. I think your dream is an inspiration!!

Have you tried skating? Seeing as you have the icy ice coming your way, maybe you should switch to speed skating instead of walking. I have to slide down my driveway (yes there is a hill) in order to get to the bare road for a run right now. The kids have been running and sliding on their bellies across the driveway for entertainment on their week off!! :upsidedow

Thanks, Robert, I just ordered a 2 year subscription!

Today I did my 2 miles on the indoor track at a sub-14 minute mile. I found a really easy way to time myself and make a game out of it.The track is 1/16th of a mile so a minute a lap will give me a 16-minute mile, right? Well, each time I go around I look at the second hand to see how much less than a minute it took me....kinda like i'm trying to eventually "lap" the clock. It takes me about 7 times around to gain a full minute. Today I had knocked off more than 4 minutes after 32 laps so that translates to a sub-14 minute mile. (2 miles at under 28 minutes) Am I the only sicko who makes up games like this?
That was after an hour of spin class, too. Today we focused on endurance training and I thought "Gee, I know a little bit about that!"
Tonight John and I are meeting Wendy for dinner and to see "Spirit of the Marathon". I'm so excited!

You never know I might just give her a shout. I can be pretty pesky when I think something needs doing.

Our ice storm came on with a vengence and I was caught coming home from the gym. It took 2 hours to get home from the gym about 5 miles away. (Don't tell dear Erica I went cross country over the WKU farm in the stang, she would have a worm. I have to ease into telling her that.) The roads are covered with a half inch of hard ice.

They sent the kids to school this morning since it wasn't supposed to happen till evening. There are buses full of kids stuck in traffic all over the county. Cars everywhere off in ditches and wrecks everywhere.

Erica is at the hospital for a class, I hope she can just stay the day and borrow some scrubs for work tonight. I can chance dying cause I'm stupid but I can't be without my adult supervision. She at least is in the new front wheel drive VW with tracksion control. The tracksion control on the stang didn't help a bit when I got stopped on a hill and had to roll back into a drive to get a rolling start.

"Ok fun fun fun till daddy takes the T bird away"

I'm off work today since the mall is closed because of the ice storm.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Frozen Panda:hippie:

Dave: Take care and make sure Erica shuts off the traction control as it is a death trap waiting to happen. I get about halfway up my inlaws driveway and the engine cuts the power to about zero and I slide down sideways. This happened 3 times during our last storm until I thought my DS6 in the car seat behind me was going to rip out my hair from behind. There is a button in front of the gear shift that says ESP, push it and it lights up and the traction control is off. Oh, and drive slow for goodness sake and NEVER take a Mustang 4 wheeling off road you silly Panda. :lovestruc

Oh and as a PS to that prior post, my DH says turning off my traction control involves turning down the volume on the radio most of the time!!! :lmao:

Dave, I heard you guys were really getting ice & sleet last night & today!
It is so not normal for your area to get that kind of ice. Take Care and stay off the roads, but I guess I better say Stay Home! Have you heard from Erica-hope she is able to borrow some scrubs.

Anyone see the Lunar Eclip last night ... it was beautiful!

DBF and went outside with our telescope. It was pretty neat to see. DBF took pictures fo his photography class.

Erica is home. She said the roads are better now. She said she has a different thing it's called ASR.

Margie, yes it's very unusual for us last time we had conditions like this was 1994. The local news said there are still 2 buses stuck on icy roads and the police have over 75 wreaks to work and there are only 3 patrol cars.

Hope everyone else is haveing a good day, mine just got better when my pretty princess got home safe.

Happy Panda.

Ice Panda: It's good you have a job that the place closes in bad weather....Poor Erica isn't so lucky! I hope all goes ok for you both, and stay home Silly Panda! No more 4 wheeling!

Beth

Yay for Erica being home safe and sound. The Jetta is pretty sure footed I have to say. Much more so than the Stang apparently!!! ;)

We had a pretty good down pour yesterday, no snow or ice though it doesn't get that cold where I am. Bad thing is that my windshield wipers only work when they want to. They wouldn't come on on the way to work but they worked about half the way home. :sad2:

I really don't want to take the car in and have it looked at cuz it really doesn't rain that much in CA.
