PTL Sweet Erica is home safe!

As for the:I really don't want to take the car in and have it looked at cuz it really doesn't rain that much in CA. You know the Mom in me says it could be that ONE down pour where you cannot see that is the tragic one - making the needed repairs very reasonable. Be Safe. I had a great view - would love to see the pictures DBF took of the Lunar Eclip. They showed a few shots on the Weather Channel this morning too.

Ice Panda: It's good you have a job that the place closes in bad weather....Poor Erica isn't so lucky! I hope all goes ok for you both, and stay home Silly Panda! No more 4 wheeling!

Beth

Yes I was glad to hear that. I didn't wanna get back out in it. My jobs were not always like that, I'm retired from the military.

I started in the Army and then switched to the Air Force after Vietnam was over. A year of high adventure as a Pathfinder was enouth for one lifetime.

I was a silly Panda to go to the gym this morning, but it was just a light mist when I headed out. When I left the gym there was a thick coat of hard ice over my car. I tried to cut across a farm to intercept a road that was over there somewhere.

Silly Panda:upsidedow

Oh my goodness, please be careful with those icey roads! I'm glad Erica is home safe and sound, but does she have to go out again for work tonight? I would have just stayed there and played it safe.

Hey guys. The roads here are better since it's 30 degrees and no new rain for a couple of hours. So hopefully it will be safe for her as it's supposed to warm during the night.

She said the traffic jam I was in this morning was already moving when she came home.

Louisville and Lexington are the worst hit and I think the St Louis area also. Is anyone in that area?

Our dear friend Jen, Tenacious, is there just south of Cincinnati.

Everyone everywhere please be carefull.

Okay. I am posting this because I am procrastinating. It is cold out. A storm is coming. I am warm and cozy on the sofa.

I am getting changed and going to the gym RIGHT NOW.

If you don't hear from me in two hours, check that i didnt' take a detour into a hot bath... :rolleyes1

Okay, okay, I'm going!

I have been going to the gym almost every morning to do my calistetics and stretching then usually I do some pool running, even when I don't wanna, I tell myself I have to earn my relaxing 15 min in the hot whirlpool.

I think I'm improving but I'm so impatient.

Oh, Wise Coach Panda,

I am back from my workout. I tried one of McGovern's 10-10-10 tempo workouts (with the underlying philosophy that if I want to walk faster, I have to walk faster). The first 10 minutes, obviously, not bad at all. Then I racheted the workout up for the "pace" 10: holy cow. I don't hang on the treadmill, and I was worrying about losing my balance and keeping up and stuff. Then, four minutes in, I realized that my legs were screaming and cramping up. And there were your Coaching Panda words for me: STRETCH, you knucklehead! What, you want to injure yourself? I paused the treadmill, did two sweet calf stretches, leaned down and massaged my shins (which, prior to McGovern and Panda, I would have seen as "weak"), and started the TM back up. The workout wasn't easy: the strength training I did on Tuesday made my hamstrings a little tight, but I hung in there and did the full 10. :) Then I did the other 10 and a 5 minute cooldown.

I'm pretty proud of myself. :)

Thanks for all your advice, Wonder Panda. I guess this workout stuff needs to be hard sometimes to get better....

I so miss my walk workouts right now. My favorites are:

4 miles, first mile slow and easy to warm up then when I start sweating speed up a little to where It's comfortably hard and then the last half mile go aqs fast as I an for a quarter mile, then cool down the last quarter with easier pace.

2 miles on track to warm up easy walking. Then do quarters as fast as I can alternating with easy quarters to recover.

Treadmill: first quarter 3.5, next mile 4.0 then alternating 5.0 and 4.0 for quarters, then alternate 6.o with 4.0 for a mile of quarters.

Right now when I start back it will be a month before I do any all out pace. I want to take this achillies up slowly.

And I will stretch after EVERY DRN WORKOUT!

Good Evening!

Just a quick post before Morpheus claims me...

I did an hour on the TM tonight. I didn't have much of a pace, but as dh pointed out, it was certainly better than nothing. Tomorrow I'll be back on the bike. Gotta get those miles in!

Dave -- So glad to hear you and Erica are safe. My dad is iced in in St. Louis. We are getting 4-8 inches of snow tomorrow, so we'll be digging out soon, too! :cold:

Duckie -- You will be a stretching wonder! I have to make myself do it, and I blow it off far too often. Thanks for the reminder!:thumbsup2

Margie -- I agree with you, two tons of steel is nothing to mess with. I don't want to be responsible for that if I can't see! :sad2:

Sarah -- I know you don't want to pay for a repair you don't think you really need, but if you can't see, you need it!

Lisa -- Watch out, the snow is headed our way:eek:

Beth -- You have so much stress right now, I hope you are regularly taking time just for you, and I don't mean :laundy:!

Ok, everyone have great walks this weekend. DS is hosting a sleepover tomorrow night, so my Saturday walk may be on Sunday. We don't hand the little darlings over until the kids' whiffleball game at 2 on Saturday. I think I might need a tranquilizer Saturday night!:scared1:

Coach Panda, last night I started doing something similar, but 'Of Course' using slower speeds. 3.0; 3.5; 4.0 3.7; 5.0; 3.7. And it does make the time go faster on that 'DREADmill!

Hi, just saw this thread...can I join in?!

My Mom passed on 12/14/07 and I needed something to help with the stress so I started walking. I walk on my treadmill almost every night between 30-45 minutes. Also, every Tuesday for the last month, I walk with some friends from work on a walking trail about 20 minutes from my house. We are very lucky, we haven't had a winter here this year so walking in February outside has been beautiful. This past Tuesday, we walked 8 miles. I am going for distance right now but in a few weeks, will start with the timing as I signed up for the 15K in May and the 1/2 in January.

As a great sidenote, I've lost pounds and inches and don't cry when I look in the mirror. I figure, if nothing else, my legs and butt are going to look great soon!!!

Dave - hope your weather is better, glad to hear you survived the ice driving experience.

Hope everyone has a good weekend, it looks good here so far, today looks really nice, will get out for a good walk with the dogs today. Our weekends are usually spend on construction work, not walking, but I consider that weight lifting:lmao:

Sarah - I agree, fix those windshield wipers! You need to see where you are going!

Yes Lynn today is much better. Just rain today no ice. I don't how you guys live in the far north.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Maria::wave2: Thanks for thinking of me......I needed it! Facing so many things that I don't want to:idea: It's nice to have a nice thought thrown my way!

Vic and Mike trekked deep into the frigid forest in search of the perfect Christmas tree but after hours of braving blustery winds and freezing temperatures, Vic was ready to give up.

He said, "I don't know about you, Mike, but I'm going to chop down the next tree I see ... whether it's decorated or not!"

I posted this over on Vic's tripple Ds thread but thought y'all might get a chuckle from it.

I can't even begin to envision walking 5 or 6 miles an hour! Wow, that is just awesome. I can do 4 and even 4.5, but after that I'm jogging. Along with the jogging comes aches. I know, I've gotta learn race walking.:goodvibes

We have some fast walkers on our WISH team. Wendy is our long distance gal, she is fast to.

Jeanne is getting faster all the time, she can do a half marathon now around 3 hours even.

Denise is putting in some good race times for someone new to the sport.

A healthy Robert is a walking machine.

I would say by the end of this year we will have 20 walkers who are able to break 3 hours for the half marathon and if they wanted and it wasn't to gastly hot break 6 hours for the full.
