So Jeanne did you get your jewelry yet?

I had dinner and flowers for Valentine's Day from DH. He only got a card from me as I thought dinner was our gift to each other.

Duckie-- Sorry about your neck. I imagine there is a good story that goes with the bizarre comforter accident.

Denise--- I am with you I felt like last year was train, train, train and stress wondering if I could do a full marathon. Now that I have done it I am just going to concentrate on doing halfs. I know that I can do those but can improve my time without stressing out and devoting half a day to training on a weekend. But even if that doesn't happen I am not getting stressed about it. My main goal is to just enjoy the race.

Time to head home. Have a great weekend everyone.

Nancy

I feel like I've been pretty self centered here lately. I guess being in pain all the time when you try to walk or do anything on your feet will do that to you. Well I woke up this morning and have no pain in my achillies. A little soreness but that's all. Two days ago it was even sore to the touch, so it appears to be responding to the rest, ice and stretching.

I have made myself for the last two days stretch when I get home. I usually just get my dinner and log on. No, I have to earn the right to log on by stretching properly first. Like most people I don't like taking the time to stretch properly.

He is what I'm doing that is working:

Before I stretch I warm up some with a calistetics routine of things like arm circles, trunk twists and side bends. Then a good stretching routine starting slow and doing 30 second intervals of stretch and recover then stretch again. Then when I've really worked my hams, ITBs and Quads, I go to the pool.

I'll do a half mile of pool sprinting and then get in the hot whirlpool tub to stretch my calves which are my problem areas, (most people with achillies problems have tight calves). Then just soak for a few min in the hot water.

When I get home advil and ice await.

This routine is working since the pain is much much better already. I'm going to be smart this time, a chore for me, and continue for a while. I've been trying to resume training to soon and it's been keeping me hurt. Smarter Panda now. Sure wish I didn't have to learn everything by trial and error.

The Manager of the Finishline showed me the new black Under Armor tech shirts he got for me and to race in. We are picking my training shoes this week end. They outfit me for racing the local races. I have to find something else for race shoes since Finishline doesn't carry the Mizuno Revolver. There is a new Nike or two that look interesting.

By the time I'm over this achillies ordeal I'll only have 2 months to build back up to racing shape before the race season starts here. The first race is April 12th, a 5k on some nice hills. I was second man there last year.

Erica has been working a extra day each pay period so she is staying pretty tired. That's why she isn't on very often. She works the 12 hour night shifts so they are pretty draining. She misses everyone and is ready for another Disney vacation.

Our temps are going to be in the 50s for a few days before it drops back into the freezing range again. That makes it hard to stay with my resting plan since I hate to waste pretty winter days by not doing some training walks.

I know a lot of you have been having a rough winter. Poor Robert. Linda, Margie and Nancy are really having a lot of snow fun. Scott and Lynn have sled dogs so they are fine.

Well guys long winded Panda's need to get their butts off the lap top and off to the gym.

Have an awesome day guys.

Happy Panda:hippie:

Good Afternoon, Fellow Walkers!

Sarah & Liz -- I love MfM! It is a great book. I followed the Half Marathon Walk plan, and I beat the sweepers!:cloud9: Oh, and in case I didn't say it before -- :welcome:
Maria

What's a sweeper?

DBF and I went walking/jogging outside yesterday. Wow, what a difference than the TM! Plus it was COLD! it felt good though! I really need to strat traing, I can't wait to get my book.

I had to laugh at myself last night, when I woke up, my heart pounding because I was at the start of the Minnie and couldn't figure out how to use the chip. :scared1: :rotfl: I haven't seen any local events yet to get experience at, so I'm counting on the WISH team to help me get through my first Minnie.

Panda - glad your achilles is getting better.

Duckie - hope your neck heals quickly.

Everyone - Have a great weekend!

Poor you, here are some instructions, just scroll down and you'll see them. That should be the LEAST of your worries.

On the other hand, my DH managed to lose his off his sneaker in a local race. I was never charged for it though.

One of our WISH princesses forgot her chip and didn't realize it till we were in the corrals. I think her Hubby met her on the course with it. I wish I could remember who it was, I'm wondering how they did her time?:confused3

Curious Panda:hippie:

Hey, all. Just got back from the mall. We did 6.5 miles in 1:45, so I am definitely getting faster! My neck and shoulders are still sore but not as stiff. I did notice today that while at the end of the 6.5 I felt like I could keep walking, after the cooldown walking and shopping (!), I do feel some soreness in the center of my one calf muscle. It wasn't sore WHILE I was walking, just afterward. I tried the sport beans today (the fruit punch ones--dh said it tasted like eating kool aid powder. I'll take his word for it, but the flavor was a little more intense than I meant it to be) and drank plenty of water.

Oh, and dh is starting to appreciate all my training. he could barely keep up with me today!

Anyway, I'm sorry I didn't get to work out yesterday and Thursday, but I know that I did the right thing sticking with the stretching I'm supposed to do every day to prevent this neck injury from happening (I sprained my neck and shoulders/upper back four years ago on some ice--it took 4 months of rehab three days a week to fix the mess I made of it).

Dave, I'll gladly trade you injuries. It would give each of us something new to worry about! :) Keep up your rehab schedule and you'll be in great shape when racing season starts. :)

(btw, you never did tell me if the 10 miler the end of March was a bad idea or not.... I told dh you are making that decision so I'm not blinded by bling) (it would be my first race ever).

SamSam, I read that book in one afternoon--i couldn't put it down!

Lynn, I am planning on sharing it with dh as well since he is a runner (although lately he tells me he no longer likes to run--doesn't see the point of it--he sounds like Forrest Gump and just doesn't have a reason to run anymore!). I figure if he gets tired of walking with me, he can train to go faster.

And Black Bean soup--I made some a few months ago, and it tasted like dishwater. I obviously did something wrong. It always sounds so good! I need to find a new recipe, I guess. Last night I made a low-fat cream of broccoli soup (it used evaporated skim milk instead of cream). Dh even thought it was great!

Jeanne, thanks! :)

Nancy, it was really silly. DH has a habit of stealing all the covers and I always make him put them back on me. When I complained that night that I was cold (because I thought he took them again), he sat up, determined that he did not take them, and told me to pull them up myself. I pulled them up with great drama while attempting to turn over to show him that i thought he should have put them back on me, and I didn't know there was a 45 pound dog at the end of the bed who had actually taken the comforter. The resistance to my completely relaxed muscles combined with the twisting while I tried to turn over just caused a big problem. DH immediately felt bad and did put the hot pad on my neck and brought me water and ibuprofen!

Duckie if you do the 10 miles to finish and have a good time no matter where you finish it will be fine and fun. Remember to go into it fresh so for a few days ahead don't do more than 3 miles a day and take a rest day or 2 after.

Racing Panda:hippie:

Dave you make a good point on the stretching. I was doing stretchs on my legs while in bed during one of my many sleepless nights. I felt a lot better. My massage therapist also taught me a few of course have I done them???? NO!

Today Mark and I were folding laundry and I carefully put away all my workout clothes. Lovingly patting them and tucked away in the perfect spot so I can find them right away. He looked at me and could not believe the slob I am with all my other stuff but my workout clothes are like GOLD. How things have changed! But then again I put on a pair of jeans yesterday that I had not worn in 2 years....... ya the diet may not be making pounds come of quickly but the combo of diet and miles/min challenge is sure changing my body.

Back to my quilt studio for now, I am listening to Itunes and my workout songs to make sure I don't get out of the mood to start again for this week.

Hello, fellow WISH walkers!

I've been lurking, keeping track of everyone's events and making sure they are on the calendar. We don't want anyone omitted when it comes to the weekly Race Reports/Encouragement/Kudos thread. :)

I've been recovering from a foot injury since August. Saw the orthopaedist three times with a different diagnosis each time. I hobbled through the Chicago 1/2 (7th from last with a 18 min pace) and ToT 13K (13th from last, still 18 min pace) and finally did the WDW 5K (15 min pace) without hobbling. :dance3: So, now it's back on to the half marathons!

Duckie, I use MfM and would suggest that you switch your weeks. On MfM, the week of the race calls for an 8 mile walk. Do the 8 mile walk the week before the race (where MfM calls for 10 miles), and the 10 mile walk will be the race. Do the regularly scheduled walks and s/t during the week. You will be great!

Keep on walking, team!! :goodvibes Anne

What's a sweeper?

They are the evil people who pull you off the course at certain places if you are not maintaining pace. Those of us at the back of the pack try to stay ahead of them.

One of our WISH princesses forgot her chip and didn't realize it till we were in the corrals. I think her Hubby met her on the course with it. I wish I could remember who it was, I'm wondering how they did her time?:confused3

Curious Panda:hippie:

It was Susie (escape). I do know that her husband did bring it to her around mile 13 but not sure how they did her time.

Duckie--- If it wouldn't have been so painful your story is actually funny.

Hi Anne--- Nice to see you dropping in to visit us.

Good job Denise in fitting in those jeans.

Denise & Dave--- I love the stretch classes at the gym as they give you a great 45 minute stretch. However, I haven't been able to get to them since before the marathon. My problem is my hips, and I do work on stretching them every day.

SamSam--- We are always there to help you.

Went to the gym today for AB class and to get my miles in for Team Ohana.
I have been struggling with losing weight. After my initial start with WW of losing 4.5 pounds nothing. I have changed my exercise routine completely and watched what I am eating but 0 loss. I think I might not be eating enough so I am trying this week to eat all my flex points and exercise points. I agree with Denise though my body seems to be changing as the clothes are looser. I have been taking pump class, pilates and AB class which all help to define your body. So at least that seems to be helping. I really think the challenge has been a big benefit with getting me motiviated to do all those classes.

Enjoy the weekend everyone.

Nancy

Nancy: The scale is evil......:scared1: You are doing all the right things.....just change things up and eat your exercise points and see what happens! Thanks for the Happy Birthday wishes on the competition's page! It's appreciated! Have a good Sunday!

Denise I think the stretching of my entire legs is the key to recovering from this achillies problem that has plagued me for going on 3 yerars now. I will get better and trhen reinjure it. I think that the flexiability is going to be the eventual cure. It's just pure lazy that I don't take the time to stretch properly.

Lady you are a warrior now. Your armor and weapons are precious to you now. Your courage and strength define you. Whether you want to believe it or not right now you are changed forever.

With pump classes, pilates and AB classes;you are probably building muscle, which weighs more. If your clothes are looser, then you are making progress regardless of what the scale says. Keep up the great work!

Good morning walkers.

There is a new RCA Jet Stream MP3 player out with wireless technology. It retails for $150 and looks pretty interesting. I have an iPod mini that I love but I'd like to try a wireless one next time.

I'm heading off soon to meet my pretty princess for breakfast, she worked an extra day this week so she is going to be pretty whipped this next week. An extra 12 hour night shift will drain you.

I'm being good and doing the rehab but I'm antsy to get going and do something. Stretching, calistetics and pool are just not the same.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Hey Wish Walkers!

You are all doing so well!! Even stretchie Panda! You will conquer this!

Duckie - You can do anything you want!

Denise and Nancy! I can relate to body changing with no weight loss! I would love to have both, but I happily settle for changing!

Anne - Thanks for keeping track of us! That's got to be the hardest job!

SamSam - You are a born racer if you are dreaming about mishaps this early!

Beth - The scale is evil, and the numbers are possessed!

Jeanne - :wave2:

I have an easy 2 mile, today. I don't know if I will get it in. We had an ice storm, yesterday. Y'll have a great Sunday!

Hello, fellow WISH walkers!

Keep on walking, team!! :goodvibes Anne

First of all, I hope your foot starts to feel better real soon. :thumbsup2
Secondly, I am confused about what you posted about JB's plan. I follow MfM and my plan is very different from yours. I got it from the back of the book. For the full marathon, he recommends 10 miles 2 weeks before the race, and 6 miles a week before.
For the half, it would be 8 and 5, respectively.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend, everyone! I was just popping in to record more miles and hours for my Ohana family......the most awesome team in the universe! :cheer2:

Jeanne, :goodvibes I was basing my comments on Duckie saying 1) she was following MfM plan, 2) she wanted to do a 10 mile race on March 30, but her ten mile training walk was the week before the race (HER race). I, too, am using the back of MfM. The walk a half marathon plan calls for a long walk of 10 miles at week 11, then 8 miles at week 12. I was just saying to do 8 miles at week 11 and the 10 miles at week 12, when her 10 mile race was. Did I explain it better this time? :cutie:

When I first started training for the 2007 WDW 1/2 in Jan 2006, I didn't know anything about how to train, so I just started doing the MfM plan, even though I wasn't training for any race before WDW at the time. I figured I would just do the plan and repeat as needed as I was coming from absolutely NOTHING. I ended up doing a local 5K in March, a 10K in April, 15K Minnie in May, the DL 1/2 in Sept and RftT in October!! :rotfl: I've got it bad, now!! The only thing that slowed me down was this dumb injury that defies diagnosis. But, I'm back to being able to train, so on to the final Minnie ::MinnieMo and beyond!

Had a fun "family" training morning today - my DS, DSis (dear sister) and DN (dear niece) all hit the mall together for 6 miles. DH has a horrible cold, so he was sidelined at home :sad1:

DN hasn't been walking much, so she dropped out at 3.5 miles and went to pick up DG (Dear Grandpa :thumbsup2 ) for a family breakfast/Disney trip planning meeting after all of our workouts.

Since I do all of the extended family trip planning, DN refers to this as "Aunt Kathy Travel" :lmao: I really feed into this by creating trip plans with clip art illustrations, etc. My poor DH just sighs.....

Today's meeting was to let our happy family know that we actually have finalized 2 spring trips

DS was in the College Program last year from Jan thru May. He loved it and continues to maintain his CM status even though we live 1000 miles away and he attends college full time here in Ohio. When we took a family trip in Dec, he worked 4 of the 8 days we were there...Unfortunately, he was unable to get a shift where he was "helping Dumbo fly", so he needs to get a "training shift" to be re-certified or whatever they call it before May otherwise it is 4 days of training. Long story short, he just found out that he can go down for a long weekend in mid April. I have made arrangments for my Dad (DG) and I to go with him :woohoo:

My dad is a Disney fan from way back. In the "old" days, when MK was the only park, Dad would go over all by himself when he was in Orlando on business. Obviously, the rest of us inherited the Disney gene from him. :wizard:

At breakfast this morning we gave DG the good news, 3 full days at WDW!! The most fun part is that 2 weeks before we go DS will turn 21 and DG will turn 75 - their birthdays are 5 days apart. We have always celebrated them together, so I made a dinner reservation at the Biergarten for this trip. DG loves it there and DS can buy his DG a beer in Germany to celebrate their milestone birthdays...

Then it was onto discussing our 2nd spring trip - DS, DSis and DN all doing the Minnie Marathon 15k. The big surprises this morning were telling DN and DSis that we are staying in the Wilderness Lodge :cool1: AND that we are going the Princess and Pirate Party on Friday night :woohoo:

As they used to say on the "A Team" - I love it when a plan comes together!

Everyone is thrilled with the upcoming trips. My DSis and I decided that our kids apparently missed the pages in the teenagers handbook about not wanting to do "family" things. The soon to be 21 year old and the soon to be 18 year old are REALLY into Disney and would really like to get down there more often. DN asked this morning why haven't we done a Disney Cruise - "that would be so cool Aunt Kathy!!!"

I guess winning the lottery would help with that one.

Hope today will signal the beginning of a good week. Hope everyone's aches, pains and injuries keep moving toward improving.

Kathy
