Hi Tracy.

I love the 1500, the 3K, the 2 mile, the 5K and the 10K. Those are my races. I'm a short race guy, the longer stuff gets into survival mode about the 22 mile mark. I know it's a matter of training but it's hard to find the time for regular 22+ mile workouts. If I could donate one day a week for a regular 6 hour walk it would make it much easier. But just getting a couple of 20 milers in before the big weekend can be a struggle.

The senior olympic distances are the 1500 and the 5K. My best performance ever as a walker was 19:02 in the 3K. I hope to blitz that later this year.

Tracy On the longer distances, what things are you talking about that can come up? You now have me curious and a little nervous.

I was able to get back to the track tonight for the first time in a week. I was going to go yesterday but I had to pull a double at work and I had to cancel. So I did an extra long workout today both at the gym and the track. I only did 5 miles at the track at a pretty slow pace because I didn't want to push too hard and I had done 40 miles on the bike earlier. I am planning on doing more this week. I have been averaging about 20 miles a week walking so I am slowly trying to build up more endurance without hurting myself.

More to come!! Stay tuned

Thing that can come up for me going past 6/7 miles are:
socks sliding down into shoes at the heel because they are too short, stitching in either socks, shorts, shirts or sports bras (not for the guys) rubbing or chaffing, shirts that ride up in the underarm area and then drive you insane after a while, tieing you shoeslaces a certain way because otherwise as your feet/ankle swell (which they will0 in the longer distances the shoes laces start to pinch off certain areas of your foot and it goes numb. Making sure my socks have enough cushion in the ball of the foot area which for me matters otherwise the ball of my foot start to kill. ALso making sure the shoes are proper width and long enough so as to not have the toes rubbing on the end which can cause black toenails and they are painfull. Making sure you are putting on enough Body GlLide in areas that chaff or rub. Trust me you will find area that rub that you didn't know were rubbing until you jump in the shower afterward and you get that sting and kills.
That is pretty much what I am talking about. These things come with time and distance. You learn as you go.

OK, tonight I did 4 miles and planned on doing at least one of the miles at the fastest speed that I could handle.

Here were my splits:
1st mile: 15:04.62
2nd mile: 13:13.20
3rd mile: 14:38.10
4th mile: 14:26.77

So, as you can see I decided my speed mile would be the second mile. Not too bad. I think I will do this from time to time to work on speed so if I decide to participate in that upcoming 1500/3000 meters racewalk championships I can be somewhat prepared. Also I think the afterwork walks are a bit harder than the morning walks. It's much hotter later in the day and after work I am a bit pooped.

Have great walks everyone.
-Tracy

Tracy that's how I train also. I do just a little bit of speed work mixed into my walk. Usually I do mine the last mile or half mile of my walk.

OMG, If you see me in the picture wearing the belt during the 1/2, there is a spot on my back that I didn't know I had from that belt until I got in the shower. I was moaning in pain and Mark came it to see what was the problem. He found it. To this day, I still have that "eye" welt scar on my back. When I go for a massage, the girl says' Oh, No it's still looking at me! Some day when I think of it, I'll have Mark draw a face around the eye before I go for a massage, she'll really freak about it.

All what you said is important, to try on all kinds of undergarments BEFORE the race - during your training. My biggest problem was getting the right pants to wear - so they don't ride or rub, hence the capri's from Sam's Club - who would have thought? And my socks to avoid burning on my soles. Rocawear are the ones I LOVE. A soft shirt, must have sleeves to avoid chub rub underarms. A hat to keep wisps of hair from falling into my face.

It's all part of the training/learning process.

Yep, Denise I got one of those eyeballs on my back from my camelback on a training walk of 12 miles. GOt in the shower and OOOOOOUUUUUCCCCHHHHH! I had that spot for about 4-5 months later. Every now and then I will get one of those but smaller and usually from a new sports bras or underwear or something. But in general I have gotten real good about using my BodyGLide gel stick on all of the "areas" that I think I would need it.

Did my 7 mile training walk this morning and I guess you could say (Dave) it was a LSD. Just kept a steady pace to survive the heat. I did some good streatching in the pool right after (jumped in right when I got home, just took off shoes and socks first) I am now sitting watching CBS Sunday Morning and iceing my left hamstring. Still bothering me hear and there.

Take care all you walkers,
Tracy

Yes the body glide is good stuff. I like to race and do hard training in a tech tank top, my trouble spot is my arm pits.

Erica had some bad chaffing after the Goofy. Neosporn salve is good for after the chaffing has occured.

I'm one of the "Old School" fellows. If it moves and it shouldn't, duc tape. If it should move and it doesn't, WD-40. If it hurts, Neosporin. If it still hurts, beer.

Well darlin, after enouth internally I sorta end up spilling it on me anyway so I guess both. Have I told you about beer laps at Epcot with UltraMickyMouse and our princesses. Puts a whole new twist on LSD.

(sounds like my kind of fun) :lmao:

Oh,... you guys!!!!

Laps around EPcot sound like fun, as long as mine can be something like margaritas, bacardis, wine or chocolate around the world. (not much of a beer drinker)

Hey ya'll I was over at my favorite place walking tonight! Mount Trashmore. (for those who don't know that is an old dump of trash, but in FL you can't bury it so it makes mountains) I had a blast!!

Scott and Lynn are not beer drinkers either so you will not be the only one stopping at the Mexican Place for Margaritas, and remember the food and WINE thing will be going on also.

Must warn ya though that Jeanne might try to get the Characters to throw beads.

Oh no, not that subject again! :rotfl2: :lmao:

Nothing but love for ya Jeanne:cutie:

Awesome walk today. I was stiff and a little sore from so much sitting yesterday so first mile was an easy 14:00 to warm up. Then I shifted into Power Panda for the last 3 miles on the hills. Time for the 3 miles was 35:19, that was an 11:46 pace. Felt great and could have kept going.

Weights and calistetics for upper body and finished up with stretching.
