Does anyone know what the pricing difference (if there is one) between a new member looking to purchase direct vs an add on for someone who is already a member? I have a friend who is thinking about buying direct and wants me to help guide them a bit before they talk to a DVC guide. I have all of the pricing for add-ons at all of the resorts but is that the same pricing if you aren't a member already? No promotions would be involved since they are looking to start out small and possibly just add on more in the future. Yes I know reale is cheaper but for a multitude of reasons they would rather go direct from Disney.

Also do we get anything for referring someone to DVC or is it just a swift slap on the butt of thanks from DVC?

Thanks!

The price is always the same. The incentives is what is different as well as the minimum.

Current owners can add on with as little as 25, New members have a much higher one.

The minimum direct is like 50 points right? I know 125 is the min for blue card but a new member can purchase 50 or 75 and just have no blue card correct?

Not an owner yet but was told by my guide as well as via the chat on the website as recently as yesterday that the minimum purchase for new direct is 125 points despite reading differently in a dvc news site I saw the other day.

Oh, they will sell you less. They just need to be pushed about it.

The price is the same but the incentives are better for existing owners.
I bought Riviera recently and being a member saved me an extra $5/point. It may vary based on the resort and the current promotions though.

I have asked my guide (several actually) as well as in a chat session about fewer than 125 and have been told thatis the minimum. If I could buy 50-75 direct right now I'd do it. Maybe I have the wrong guide?

At times, they are strict on certain resorts. Specifically CCV and I'd guess RIV. What one are you asking about?

If they are not bending on others, this is a new development.

A long time ago, they were very strict on 160. We were in a position to buy but could not afford 160. Frankly, we didn't need 160. They would not budge.

I'm pretty sure if you're not already an owner, they won't sell you less than 125 for RIV. Other resorts yes, but not RIV. I feel like I've read that here via others' experiences.

We would be interested in BC/BW, Polynesian, GF or AK or possibly others but only looking for 50 to 100 points to start. I guess I need to check into the #'s more closely to see exactly how much the savings of resale over direct actually are with all things considered including the direct contract being loaded in the actual UY we would prefer. I know the upfront savings looks great.

I will have an answer on how many for sure tomm. My friend wants to buy 60-75 points prob at AKL direct. I cannot imagine Disney wouldn't take their $$. If there is one thing the mouse cherishes above all is taking the $$ lol

Is your friend already an owner? If not I will be interested to hear how your friend makes out with that. I didn't come right out and tell my guide if they would sell me 75 points I would buy direct but I did tell him the 125 direct was the thing holding us up. I would like to get a smaller direct contract to get started and then take our time looking to add on via resale.

No she would be a new member, she is interested after hearing me tell her how it all works. She goes every other year and stays at Pop, so DVC only really makes sense by doing a small amount of points for studio stays. She will prob add on after she gets hooked but for now that is the way she wants to start out. She knows she wouldnt get a blue card but if she buys direct and eventually adds on, it is my understanding that if she gets to 125 points then she would get the blue card. But thats all stuff i'm going to find out tomm. My guy knows he better give me the straight up answer and not play any games. We have been owners since 1994 so I know how the game works lol

While there have been times they allowed lower amounts, much of that was before the pandemic and it has changed over time.

They have indeed turned people down when wanted to buy less and let them walk away. The lower minimum is one thing causing some of the studio issues in the system.

Keep us posted!

I have to think there would be a AKL contract that would have a similar cost as direct but would have more points and more flexibility for your friend. Maybe do a price comparison of the bang for the buck... why just hand over extra money to Disney without getting the benefits?

Only if the minimum stays at 125. If she bought 60 points now, and then 65 points later, and the minimum for a blue card was still 125 points, then, yes, she'd get the blue card. If she buys 60 points now, but the minimum changes to 150 points, she'd need to buy 90 points to get the blue card at that point.

Well my guide just said they wouldn't take her $11000 and sell her less than 125 points which is absolutely ridiculous. I have a call into a manager to see what they can do cause that makes no sense to me. Since when has Disney EVER not taken the $$. They are the biggest cash grab co there is. As a referring member it makes me look stupid for even suggesting it to my friend. She cant afford more than the $11k right now so she cannot do 125 points. And she doesnt want to finance it.
