New VGF reservation - need to move forward a few weeks (process?)

So had success this morning calling MS to use my new VGF points to book 2 “resort studio“ rooms beginning February 14th 2023 for 3 nights. Now it turns out due to a conflict for one of my guests we need to move it forward a few weeks. Since this can’t be done online yet for these rooms I will have to call member services. Haven’t done this very often but effectively need to “walk” this for the next few weeks at this point. However I’m getting confused as to the last day I can call so as not to lose the reservation. So much info absorbed this week with the new purchase on top of my existing BWV points, I think I’m brain dead 🥴 Many thanks in advance.

1.Original booking: Today, 3/14/22 for ressie beginning 2/14/23 for 3 nights.

2. Now need to push this to the last week of Feb 2023. Booked 2 new VGF “resort studios” so will need to call MS to modify every few days as these rooms not bookable online yet (ugh).

3. Here is where I am getting confused…. In order not to lose the 3-night reservation, do I need to call every 2 days or 3 days? Meaning do I need to call this Wed or is Thurs also OK? No idea why my brain can’t compute this today. 🤷🏻‍♀️

IMHO, walking this is overkill. Just wait the required 2-3 weeks or whatever, then call to modify.

Ha, you may be right. All of a sudden got swept up reading multiple posts today of how many existing VGF owners were switching their reservations over to “resort studios” (which I thought no one liked?! ) so started worrying that they’d be gone if I wait a few weeks 😆

In any case, if anyone is willing to humor me with the 2 vs 3 day answer I am now curious more than anything else.

Agreeing with this.

While I think the new RStus will be more popular than many owners have thought, I doubt they'll be so much so that you can't modify readily.

Reason why is GF=FONFI (Grand Floridian = Fear of not fitting in.)

It's a spooky place for many Disney lovers, kind of Ursula in resort form. ;) "Nooooo! I'd feel out of place. It's too stuffy and snooty. We're NOT staying there!"

Since your check out dare is the 17th, you need to call on the 16th to move it forward…though I agree it probably won’t be necessary given Theynhave declared over 100 rooms and many of the posts have been for lots of different times.

But, even though you only want 3 nights, if you have extra points not tied up, book more than 3 if you decide to walk this forward, which means having to call less often.

Thanks! I actually booked 2 standard view Resort Villas and am hoping to get them connecting if it works out. This used up almost all my first year’s allotment of VGF points, otherwise I would have done that, but good idea. Now that I have the reservation I will have to see if I can “let it go“ and not worry about it for the next few weeks. 😬

Thanks everyone. So I just went and looked at the DVC non-resort studio rooms for VGF, and couldn’t believe the Jan/Feb availability. Almost completely wide open - no wonder there is no need for walking this. Have been on lots of VGF forums since buying into VGF last week & got the impression that DVC rooms were really hard to book at VGF.

I guess I’m just used to BWV (where we always want a Boardwalk View room) and have to be right on it (day of) at 11 months in order to get that view. Guess I should have done this research before bothering you all with this question 😬

Thanks again, you saved me many hours of MS hold time over the next 2 weeks!

In the past it has been challenging to get VGF1 at certain times of year - especially studios, and generally standard view goes first - the standard views are lovely at VGF1 IMO & take fewer points - but w/ the addition of the resort studios I suspect that’ll ease somewhat. But VGF2 is new - so it is hard to predict booking patterns. For example there aren’t many theme park view resort studios - 28 v. approx. 87 each of standard/lake view, so will there be competition for the theme park views or will their higher point cost depress demand?
The situation at BWV is interesting because the 91 preferred view villas cost the same number of points as the 21 boardwalk view villas resulting in fierce competition for the Boardwalk view villas, thus they’re tough to get.
Late Feb. is 11 months away & w/in home resort booking priority & late Feb. is not high demand, so I wouldn’t be concerned unless I wanted the theme park view studios at VGF2 because how popular those will be is unknown.
OTH if I was trying for a reservation for June 20 - mid Dec. I’d want to have that in place before the floodgates open for all members for 7 month bookings on May 13.

Very helpful, thanks so much!

If you had no trouble booking the current reservation, which includes Valentine's Day, I agree with the others that you will likely be OK not walking it. Unless you really want to. I've only walked one reservation (well, two since it was two rooms) and that was for Thanksgiving Week. One room was an accessible GV (there are only 3 of them at OKW) and the other room was a two bed lock-off.

I was happy to be able to book two standard studios the week leading up to Christmas over the phone. They also out in a request for me to try to find connecting rooms (there are a few) or to put the rooms as close as possible.

You're right! There's availability in the VGF1 studios!!!! That's odd. Guess everyone booked in VGF2, like me.

The VGF1 studios were difficult, and they did have to be walked. Guess those days are over.

Does anyone know what day new DVC members can book the new rooms at GFV? 🤔

While I would miss the kitchenette, at least the VGF gives another option for a studio with two real beds, other that OKW. Which will be great for some families. I know people I travel with love the OKW Two Bed lock-offs, when we travel together, because of the 2nd bed in the studio portion.
