NEW VGF Building

Yeah, I came here to comment “so… resort studios are just hotel rooms?” There’s not even a microwave, and there’s less room with two queens. This is useful when you have people who don’t want the pull down, but the pull downs are a huge improvement over sofa beds that I don’t see it being the deterrent that sofa beds were.

I’m not sure how this counts as “DVC” honestly. I know some people will be happy, but I hope this is not a sign of the direction of studios going forward. And I’d have loved to see more 1BR/2BR/3BRs added.

Will these at least have the option of booking connecting studios? That at least would be a benefit of these.
I don't think this will be a new norm, it's just a time/converson issue. The DLT is going to have the murphy beds and they seem hell bent on getting those installed everywhere which is nice because they are such an improvement. I think the other advantage to this particular offering is the ability for cash bookings to be attracted if need be. People looking for hotel rooms probably don't want a pull down or murphy bed if paying Grand Floridan prices if booking a room for a cash though the Murphy Bed isn't a big drop off from a standard queen from what I can tell.

They don’t seem hellbent on getting them at BRV, considering they’ve now twice delayed the much overdue refurb there. And with them now announcing they are returbing VGF1, I’m just waiting for them to delay BRV again. But I’m not bitter (yes, I am).

I'm sort of wondering if they've started to put the 2042 resorts in a different bucket as far as how can we spend the least amount in the next 18 years by spacing out refurbs in order to time a big refresh just before the contracts expire. It may not be that nefarious, it could be that CCV is the same point chart and they think if people hate the way BCV is right now they can just try to get a room there (good luck) at 7 months

I'd feel the same way, we want to stay at BRV but are awaiting the refub. It's way overdue! It should have went:

Aulani/BRV
GFV
Poly

I guess poly got it early because the rest of the resort was being refurbed? I feel that whole resort was torn down and rebuilt 6-7 years ago when it was re-named back to the village :confused3

I can’t say for sure but I would guess this is in response to demand. Generally we see the studios book much quicker then the 1br or 2br. As they flood the market with studios my hope would be it balances the demand so those who want studios can book them and those who want 1br can get theirs.
I don’t know. Sometimes it feels like competition for 2BRs is just as crazy as for studios. All these studios in the MK area makes me feel good about owning BLT.

Beverage coolers don’t keep food cold. Hard pass on these.

If I want a spacious studio near MK, I’ll book at Poly.

If a cheap conversion to “DVC” (I use that term loosely, because these are not a “home,” just glorified hotel rooms) was the intent, this was well executed.

It’s also messaging that Disney doesn’t want you eating in your room, but at restaurants $$$.

I mean, seriously, even Tower Studios at RIV have a mini fridge, toaster and microwave

I feel the same way. It isn't functional for us as a couple; I'm afraid booking the deluxe studio will be even more difficult. I'd be more than happy to book the resort room when we are traveling with a friend.

I ahve a feeling there will be plenty of these resort rooms available at 7 months, just like Poly studios during certain times of the year.

I don't see this happening unless they are priced much higher points per night. If they are priced near the studios i think they will still go quick!

I don’t understand why so many more studios and so little one and two BRs. It’s going to almost impossible to get 1and 2 BRs now. And since the Poly only has studios too, BLT will be more sought after maybe?

I assume the lack of 1BR and 2BR is directly related to this only being a conversion of an existing building and they do not want to make any structural changes. Im guessing the layout of existing rooms makes it easiest to go with the current 2 queen layout.

Well, that explains why they aren’t in a hurry on the ’conversion’ of Big Pine Key to VGF2, there is no conversion, just the equivalent of a soft goods refurb w/ new bathroom surfaces of hotel rooms.
The artist’s renditions of the refurb of the original villas is …interesting… I like the celery green we have now, I’m not a fan of the future turquoise scheme, it’d be tolerable I guess, but for that multicolor rug in the living room (gag) - I’m hoping it looks better in person. Also in the drawings the kitchen/living room spaces look much smaller than they look/feel in person.
I suppose it now comes down to price & how they integrate VGF & VGF2, I’ve seen a couple of resale contracts in my use year hit the resale market in the last several weeks and been tempted, but have held off waiting for more details on VGF2 & because I have enough banked VGF points at present due to 2020 cancelations. Ironically the addition of the pull down beds may scupper my add on plans, I wanted enough points to get a 2 br. for another real bed - we typically stay in 1 br.s now, but if the pull downs are as comfortable as I’ve read, we won’t need to size up.

WIth 200 rooms I don't see them going quick. This is going to be a large chunk of points that affects not just VGF owneers, but owners elsewhere. I think they'll go around 7-months but not like the current studios or CCV etc.

My reasoning is the # of points it will be. I'd expect them to be less points than Poly/VGF Deluxe studio, but more than most other resorts. So let's take January as an example. Standard deluxe studios are 17 pts for a weekday, 20 pts for a weekend at both resorts. The resort rooms should be less than that. However, BLT is 15/17 and most other resorts are less. Assuming it's somewhere between AKL/SSR and VGF and Poly, puts it at probably 15-18 a night. I just don't see them selling out at 11 months, or sometimes even at 7 because people will spend that 15-18 points elsewhere for a deluxe studio, not a hotel room with 2 beds and no fridge.

Disney/DVC has an incentive to price these as high as possible. If the resort rooms are priced higher than the deluxe stuidos we are selling immediately.

It’s just lazy in my opinion. At least for CCV, they rebuilt the hotel rooms to make plenty of 1 and 2 BRs while keeping the points chart the same as BRV. VGF2 will make availability of existing 1 and 2 BRs very hard to come by now.

Some sort of mix would've been preferred. All 200 rooms with a queen/queen is lazy. Also a lot of us were working out things in our heads and there could've been a way to add a kitchenette and tie it into the bathroom plumbing. I doubted they'd do that, but I thought they'd do more than simple qn/qn hotel rooms. Even Queen/Murphy bed would've been better for us personally.

So I am assuming the Resort rooms will have 2 views as well? I am really annoyed they couldn't have made some rooms King beds with all of that space, at least that is a trade off for not having a kitchenette. That's another category I guess and that's just too much work.

So if i am reading right, there will be both "resort" and "deluxe" studios. The deluxe will have a kitchen area just like at VGF1.Will there also be a couch areain the deluxe? If that is the case, I am ok with it. So no one bedrooms or two bedrooms at VGF2?

For the record, I want to stay in the DVC building. So hoping they are different booking categories.

What?!?!

No sink?

No microwave?

We just stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel Orlando and commented how much we missed those. We were glad when we checked-out of the Hard Rock and transferred to a BWV room that has both.

Ugh!!!

It's nothing more than a hotel room!

Quick cash grab, minimal effort to get maximum return and shift more of the annual cost of the resort to DVC owners.

This. 100%. And what doesn’t sell DVC they can book cash…in fact, maybe that was the intent all along. Make these rooms “DVC” to push upkeep on members, but have the option to cash book the rooms too. Best of both worlds?
(I may be wrong in how it all works, and if this scenario is possible legally, so please excuse my ignorance of the operations structure.)

VGF2 will be completely "resort studios"...all 200 of them.

I hope the beverage place isn’t in the bathroom.
Doesn't look to be in the updated Contemporary hotel rooms, although you'd have to get the water for the coffee pot from the bathroom sink.

Some people prefer to use filtered or bottled water for their coffee, anyway, so maybe that's not as big a deal for them. We use water from the bathroom sink for coffee when we stay in non-Disney hotel rooms, so I can probably get past that.

We would only use VGF points for 2 or 3 nights as part of a split stay that involve one or two visits to the MK. The rest of the stay would be in a 1 bedroom at BWV as our favorite parks are EPCOT and DHS, and it doesn't much matter which part of a split stay involves DS or AK.
