New Universal Commercial? Kinda Rude...

We're not crazy about coasters (except my dad), so IOA didn't do anything for us.
Case in point. This is exactly like saying, "We don't like coasters so Magic Kingdom didn't do anything for us."

Disney has coasters, too! Yes, Universal has The Hulk (I can't ride, did it once, too much for me), which is way more thrilling than any of the Disney thrill rides. But you can't fault them for having a ride that is MORE THRILLING than WDW thrills. They have weenie coasters, like the WDW ones, too (thank goodness). And they have Dueling Dragons (comparable to Rock n Roller coaster, but outside, smoother, and more fun), which is not wild nor weenie.

I think Disney needs to reinvent the classics and bring them back to life and make kids excited about them!
I wish Disney would release all the old Mickey cartoons. Although everyone would be all offended. They're sexist and they show cruelty to animals, etc.

Couple weeks ago, while waiting for Tony's (ug) I was watching the old cartoons in the back and there was one with Mickey on a farm. A bunch of piglets were suckling at their mother. So, Mickey grabs the tail of one and it shreaks. Then he grabs another one, and it shreaks in a different tone. Pretty soon, he's playing a song by making all the piglets shreak. The whole thing, especially the looks on Mickey's face, was so funny!

Can you imagine if someone did that today? Oh, my gosh, I think the people at PETA and the ASPCA would never stop!

And Goofy? I can hear it now. "You shouldn't make fun of the mentally challenged."

'Course, now Mickey doesn't have any facial expressions. Just that big grin, all the time.

No. Most of us who work at Universal also have annual passes for Disney. Also many castmembers work at both Universal and Disney. I like 'em both. The castmembers at Universal and Disney don't hate the other parks and feel no conflict of interest. It's only the fans that feel the need to hate the other park.

As another Universal Team Member - I totally agree with what Phamtom has said. Many of us have Disney AP's. I go as often as I can. And yes, many people work at BOTH.

Before I moved here I used to go to both when I travelled to Orlando. Personally I love the fact that they are different types of parks. Just because I like one doesn't mean I have to hate the other. :confused3

I apologize if this has been posted, but I saw a new (to me) Universal commercial yesterday and I thought it was kinda rude.

Cute little girl in the commercial says...
"If I have to hug one more Princess, I'm gonna hurl."

Cute little boy says...
"Sure I liked fairy tales.......when I was five"

Another cute little boy says....
"I don't go to bed at 8 o'clock." - or something like that

I know Universal has had commercials like this before and I admit I laughed at the little girl who was going to "hurl." But really, why doesn't Universal make commercials showing what they have to offer instead of making fun of their competitor?
It's not a big thing, but I thought it was, I don't know, Mean spirited? Tacky? Sour grapes? Can't quite put my finger on it...but it didn't make me want to go to Universal...I wouldn't not go there because of the commercial, but the commercial didn't show me why I should go there. KWIM?
I know ! whats up with that?! I still like that stuff and im over 12 ! princess: lol

I've never been to Universal (waiting until my kids are a little older and can get on thrill rides)-- I'm a Disney person, but I actually thought the commercial was kind of funny. I think UO realized its not going to hurt Disney's business. When the average person goes to Orlando, they go to Disney-- they may go to UO as well, they may not. I don't know, I didn't really think it was rude-- just a little jab and kind of funny.

I hate all the Universal commericals...my family hates thrill rides and the unimaginatvieness of those parks...we just avoid those parsk completley. We will take the princesses anyday.
"Unimaginatvienss"???? Have you even stepped foot inside IOA or USO? I don't see how anyone could possibly say these parks are unimaginative :confused3

i cannot believe there is a thread on over analyzing commercials, WOW

Negative commercials have a negative affect on me. Psychologically they are very interesting though. Do they think people are going to think,"I'll be cooler if I stay at Universal"? Are people really that easily manipulated? :yo-yo:

I find it hilarious. Where has the world's sense of humor gone? Common side effect of puffing too much pixie dust! Ha ha ha....

I think commercials are pretty interesting. I know that the companies that pay for them don't think they are so silly or find it weird that people would discuss them.

I doubt if this commercial is targeting those of us mega disney fans who never go to universal, though the way to my heart is not to dis disney. The target group is probably people who are going for the first time.

the only thing i'm going to say.

if you have a good comercial then you will want to go to that place or buy that product

But if you look at this commercial as someone who is on the fence on wich park to visit and you like roller coasters and hear that your kids will STAY PLAY and EAT free which would you do?

I think we can declare this thread a winner as the most ridiculous thread ever on the DIS. :lmao:

That's just the thing, it will affect different people in different ways. There's nothing in that commercial to persuade me, but they were probably not trying to persuade people like me in the first place.

It will probably be affective for those with less affection for disney.

I'm amazed at you guys saying this. Commercials are big money and very interesting. If you are voting this one the most ridiculous, you clearly haven't been paying attention.

Haven't Seen The Commercial, But Probably Wouldn't Think Anything Of It. It's All In The Name Of A Little Humor I Guess. Sure I Think It's Better To Promote Your Own Product But At The Same Time It's A Little Ironic Because With The Commercials Uo Has It's Like They Know And They're Not Denying That Disney Is Still The #1 Theme Park In Orlando, So They're Just Trying To Bring Em Down Just A Little Tiny Bit, But With Humor, And There's No Better Way To Do It. And That Kind Of Thing Does Appeal To Some People Because Disney's Not For Everyone And They Know That.
And Just For The Record, I Just Got Back From Universal. We Stayed At The Portofino Bay. I Love It There!!! And Not For Nothing But Disney Could Take A Couple Tips From Them!

This is way off topic, but I have to ask you -- doesn't it take a long time to capitalize the first letter of every word you type???

Regarding the commercial, I just don't care for it. But I don't care for any commercial that makes kids look like smart alecks. Yes, I most certainly have a sense of humor, but not when it comes to bratty kids. (my 10 yo dd would never say "hurl.")

Now, some of the later posts are interesting. But, I have to say I find it humourous that there are people who get so worked up about a commercial.

Oh, by the way, you have no idea what I have been paying attention to so you really shouldn't make assumptions. :)

I'm sure this thread has a long life ahead....

I disagree about the declining attendance. If this were the case I would not be having a hard time getting the dates I want, staying at any of the On Sites.

You can't disagree about the declining attendance. Its a fact. While All of the Disney parks and Sea Worlds attendance went up a good bit in 2005, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, and Universal Studios Hollywood all saw a large drop in attendance. Not to mention a 25% dip in profits.

I finally saw the commercial last night..not offended by it but the girl looked like a brat.

Negative ads just don't work..show us why we should go to your park, that's all I'm saying.

It's not an accident that commercials affect people emotionally. That's what they are supposed to do. I think that Universal and WDW marketing people would find this thread very interesting. They try very hard to spend those huge marketing budgets wisely.

I remember a Michelob commercial years ago that for some reason made me feel so good that I started drinking Michelob. Stupid, I know! And I stopped using a diaper years ago when I was offended by it's commercial. Don't even remember why now. They don't pay all that money for nothing.
