New Universal Commercial? Kinda Rude...

Also, I don't think the Disney Hero commercial is a jab at US. Disney rarely acknlowledges them.

But I don't like the Disney hero commercial because it has that same heavy handedness as those Diamond commercials saying to spend 2 months of salary on a stupid rock. :rotfl2:

Yeah my wife liked that idea. lol

Personally, I don't understand why people are so upset about the Universal commercials. It's a commercial people-what impact does it really have on your lives? WDW is a fun place but so is Universal. I have never "gotten" the whole Stepford Disney thing. It's a park with a mouse and a bunch of rides. Could it be WDW puts something in the Dole Whips?

Amen!

So many of the posts say "I haven't been to Universal but..." or " I haven't been in 5 years and have no need to go.... " or something to that effect!!! How can you have an opinion on what you don't know? Believe me Universal is fun too!!! Gosh guys, you're not married to Disney or for that matter even going steady and believe it or not it's not cheating to see both Universal and Disney. Can't we all just enjoy each park for what it does well?? Can't we all just get along?

My DD who is 11 wouldn't step foot in the WDW parks if I didn't insist and I only insist because we're in Orlando. She thinks that the Universal commercial is hilarious and guess what she's not a brat or a wiseacre but an independent thinker who makes up her own mind. Gee, I think that is exactly the sort of person Universal is trying to reach so I guess the commercial is a success after all.

At this rate, I'll never get tagged. :rotfl2:

I saw an article (I believe posted here) that stated that almost every amusement park had rebounded and seen increased attendance in '05...except for the Universal parks! Ok, I don't know how accurate or reliable this study was but if true maybe it had something to do with them putting out such a commercial? (I have not seen the commercial in question)

The superheores in the Disney commercials are exactly like the superheroes in the parade at Universal, minus the icon names on the costumes. Sorry, Peterpan, you are just judging this on wrong info. If you had ever been to Universal in the Marvel superheor area, you would know that they are exactly the same. That is not a coicidence. I thought it was cute that Disney wanted to have a little fun with the commercial and I never took it as insulting. But a "jab" it was.

First of all my name is Peter11435 not Peterpan. And for the last time the commercial was not intended to be a jab at Universal. There is no jab, there is only a resemblance to some characters at Universal. How is that a jab. The answer is it is not. I said it once and I'll say it again your suggestion that it is a jab at Universal is laughable and has not substance to back it up. Disney is just saying that you will be a hero (a good thing) if you take your family to WDW.

Realize you are on a disney site and for some (fortunately a very small few) any criticism of Disney, for them, will be some kind of personal attack I guess. Otherwise I totally agree with this post.

Sorry for the mix-up on your name. It wasn't intentional.

As far as a jab, until you've see the superheroes at Universal, you are only assuming. I've seen them hundreds of time and know exactly what costumes they wear. By the way, a jab is not an insult. A jab is just a little teasing not a personal insult. I like the Disney commercial and I like the Universal commercial.

Ultimately it will be the "bean-counters" who determine the "likeability" of the commercial based on the almighty dollar (sales)!

I haven't seen the commercial, but it sounds kinda "no class". I agree with the poster who said that if Universal is out to encourage brattiness in kids, then I'll stick with the Mouse. I have to add, though, that sometimes I have made my dd turn OFF "House of Mouse" because the characters are not being nice at all to each other! Disrespectful and rude. Is it just me?? :confused3

I love them both!

I don't mind the commercial. I thought it was hilarious in Shrek 2 when the Little Mermaid washed up on the beach to Shrek and Fiona threw her back! And I love Ariel, she's my favorite cartoon character ever. The Little Mermaid is one of my all-time favorite movies.

I know the parks are very similar, but Universal is newer with better architecture.

Lots of the rides are similar, too, but Disney doesn't have anything like Spider-Man or Poseiden's Adventure or Terminator 2 3-D! And Earthquake! I love Earthquake, even though some folks think it is lame.

And the Dr. Suess carousel (can't remember how to spell it) and even The Cat in the Hat!

And I can't go to Orlando and NOT have a Cheeseburger in Paradise.

I don't see why people think you have to go to one or the other. I don't go to the grodery store and say, "No, I can't buy Apple Jacks. I only like Honeycomb!"

Maybe the costumes in the commercial are similiar to the ones at Universal, but they also look very much like the costumes worn in the movie Sky High.
I mean, the parents in Sky High ARE super heroes so I thought this is where the commercial idea came from. Universal never crossed my mind when I saw the commercial, I thought of of Sky High and or the Incredibles. I think it could have easily been either one and there isnt a way to know for sure.

i think that this commercial wasn't the smartest idea of universal. i believe that the idea behind the commercial was smart, but as other posters have said, dont make fun of disney, show what you have! if they show the huge coasters that they have, won't that be more convincing than just making fun of disney. i honestly though dont think that it is a HUGE idea

ill be honest....i laughed my first time watching it... :thumbsup2 :cool1: :goodvibes

I go to Orlando several times a year and have AP's to both parks. I know for a fact that Universal makes fun of the Disney parks. all you have to do is go to the Horror makeup show and listen to the show. one of their favorite lines is "This isn't Disney World, we don't have to be nice to you" they say it during every show. I must have heard them use that line a hundred times over the years.

Sorry about getting angry over the name, I thought it was intentional.

I think in most people’s minds the word jab as negative connotations. That said I have seen the superheroes at Universal but to be honest I think the ones in the commercial look just as much like those in Disney's Sky High as those at Universal. In any case I think if Disney truly intended to "jab" universal they would have been much obvious. After all I am not sure how having the heroes look like those at Universal would be teasing Universal, especially when as far as Disney's commercial is concerned they are promoting being a hero. But to be honest it really doesn’t matter.

Good point!!! And I am lost on why people think Universal is promoting kids acting like brats :confused3

As if the kids at WDW are better behaved? I totally don't get that. They're the same kids! I see people at Universal wearing Mickey shirts (and ponchos), and I see kids at WDW wearing Spider-man jackets.

No commercial is going to make a well-behaved kid stop behaving. Geez.

Maybe UO has poor self esteem?!!? Usually, when someone has poor self esteem, they pick on those who exude more self confidence.

I'd have to ask UO, "jealous much?"!! hahaha! :rotfl2:

Disney will always get my vote. We used to do Universal with our trip but with me ahving young kids now there is not enough for them to do there.

all these threads is so making me want to see the commercial :yay: :yay:

Has it been aired on the east coast yet? :confused3
