From an article in todays Metro newspaper, Sky Bus International, an American carrier, is planning to run a service to Orlando from Luton. Starting in July they plan to offer tickets from £100 each way, but discounts of up to 35% might be available on internet bookings.

Their site is http://www.sky-bus.com/ might be one to watch for the future

umm - the website looks like it's been made by a group of high school kids - hope they don't employ the same kids for aircraft maintenance as well!

Hmmm I have to say I'd be uneasy about flying with this bunch - for 9 hours I don't want ANY cutbacks.

But I'm sure I heard that there was going to be a new ruling which would allow the likes of Virgin to start charging less for their flights

The website doesn't exactly inspire confidence!

If it's a choice of £130 return on this mob , or £600 on Virgin I know which one I'll be booking lol.

Yep:D But:rolleyes: ..... they reckon it'll be something like 5-10 years before we get to see any benefit over here:mad:

I think I'd like a bit more information on them before I would fly with them. 9 hours or not, I'd not mind an Atlantic version of the low-cost airlines though. As long as the money saved was significant, I'd be more than happy to pack my butties and a good book - or at the very least, I'd have more choice :)

..... I'd like more info too, sounds interesting!

I was amused by the following:
"60 minutes prior to scheduled departure at least 20 seats will be auctioned to standby passengers starting at 33% OFF".

I can just picture the scene at Luton :teeth:

Id' sit in the loo for the entire 9 hours if it meant that I could get cheaper flights. I'm not proud LOL;) ;) ;) Carolyn

Looking at their website (with hitcounter!), I'd sooner fly with Buddy Holly Airlines!;)

........ I heard a bit more about this on the radio today - it is the project of a Lancaster business man who wants to do for long-haul what the 'no frills' airlines have done for Europe.
Take a thermos with your sarnies Penny :teeth:
Remember Freddie Laker? Well they think that the big airlines won't be able to squeeze this guy out as they did Freddie - time will tell, it's a tough nut to crack, but there's nothing like competition to bring those prices down :smooth:

I'd certainly welcome the idea of a cheap airline to Orlando.....although as usual, the flights would not be from Scotland.........but that wouldn't really worry me. As long as it was safe.......and the much publicised DVT and long haul flights is considered when cramming in as many seats as they can.

pt415999 - I noticed the hitcounter too - but I suppose everyone has to start somewhere......

:D

Scottish_Maleficent, sure everyone starts somewhere, but I'll wait for a few suckers, um, I mean passengers, to give their verdict first!;)

Yup I'm with you on that so make sure you all tell us what it's like and then I'm on that whole "whats good for the goose..." saying LOL :)

 I'm with Shirley picturing the mobbing at the airport auction just before take off. Phew, makes me sweat just thinking about the atmosphere on the flight:p

Actually, according to their website, they are promising a larger seat pitch - though they don't actually say what. There will be a kiosk at either end selling drinks and munchies (glad I don't have to lug that thermos afterall ;) ) and you pick up your blanket and pillow in the departure lounge before you get on the plane!

It made quite interesting reading really - they are saying that they only need 76% 'occupancy' to attain profitability. At those prices, I don't think they'll have a problem - atleast as long as the feedback is good after the initial flights.

The website is rediculous, how on earth do they expect to get any customers with a site like that?

I agree with you, Sam and pt415999, I think I'll wait for some reviews first before I travel with them.

When will these flights be starting?

Apparantly the Civil Aviation Authority and Luton Airport know nothing about it, it was on our intranet site at work yesterday
