New Twist on the Guy Jumping From Carnival Cruise Ship

I just saw it too. The kid couldn't even answer the questions he was being asked. They say the two were being roudy on their balcony and people were complaining. When the kid went to answer the door, the man fell in the water, face first.

I was thinking they probably told him not to say certain things until the guy talks.

The 16 year old was on Good Morning America this morning chomping on gum throughout the interview no less ;) He seemed very nervous and really didn't contribute many facts on exactly what happened.

I am sure this will be on our local news most of the weekend. :sad2:

How can one say they wouldn't allow their 16 yo to go on vacation with a 35 yo without knowing the family dynamics and not walking in their shoes? And calling him a pedophile without any knowledge other than they were traveling together??? Would you feel any different if these were females instead of males??? I feel we're turning into a society full of paranoia and thinking the worst of people. So would this mean this child has a terrible mother? Jumping to conclusions and judging people with 'no' viable information is just sad... :sad2:

Sorry. I just can't feel that it's a good idea for an adult male to develop that kind of friendship with a child -- and if the guy is innocent (probably in 99.9999% of the time!), then it's for his own protection.

What parent would let a 35 year old man take a 16 year old on a cruise? But then why would a 35 year old hang around with a 16 year old boy?
Can you say pedophile. :sad2: :sad2: Something is not right.

That was my first thought when I read the story. While I agree we don't know the whole story, it has many red flags going up.

I wonder if the man made a move on the boy and was rejected. I'm guessing the boy would tell mom when he got home. Sounds like a good reason for the man to jump overboard

sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

I didn't say it was a 'good idea'... I'm just saying how can we jump to conclusions about something we honestly know nothing about? All that does is start rumors and I personally can't stand rumors. They ruin people's lives... and for what? The entertainment value it brings to others?

I'm not saying there isn't anything wrong/strange or the like about this entire situation. I'm just saying without the 'facts'... how can conclusions such as these be made?

Don't know the family dynamics, BUT there are just too many cases where we see the worst come into play. I would NOT feel any different if it were 2 females BTW. The only way my children would have gone away with an adult at that age would be if they (the adult in question) were my parent or my sisters.

It would be nice to think they had a 'father - son ' relationship. THere are certainly lots of teenage boys who could use it. In a perfect world, that's what their relationship was and the man just did an incredibly stupid thing (fall over board).

Of course it's not a perfect world and maybe the teen pushed the man overboard?

I was thinking the same thing :sad2:

I would say if the man wanted to committ suicide he would have drowned himself, right?

Hopefully it is just an accident and it ends up being a good story.

Good point. For all we know, the teen is "troubled"... We really don't know enough to say.

Good point back at you. I wasn't necessarily thinking in that direction - more of the teen had enough of the man's abuse - but maybe the man is actually a really nice guy and it's the kid who has issues and 'snapped'.

That was my first thought as well.

Just want to say I love your kitty, er bunny picture!

And one thing: In International waters, pedophilia is not a crime. It also may be legal in countries the ship was visiting. That makes me even more suspicious that there is something going on.

Why do we assume that this man was/is a pedophile. I went to St Louis when I was 10 to visit a family friend who was 23 years older than me. She was my mom's best friend. I also went again when I was 18. I think that we are really jumping to conclusions or is because he ia a man and this is a boy

They said he was a friend of the family. He's probably known this kid for a long time and wanted to do something special for him. :confused3 I don't think that makes him a pedophile.

I have to agree with this.

Has no one ever heard of Big Brother/Big Sister organizations? Why is it not possible this guy was just a good person doing something nice for his god-son?

I know my brother would do (and has done) a lot for his god-son.

There are often comments about men who won't get involved with children and people get frustrated about that. Seems to me men are damned if they do and damned if they don't.:confused3

This is what I've been trying to say...
