New TV purchase LCD or Plasma?

Actually the new Hitachi Plasmas have full 1024 x 1080 native resolution for full 1080i HD input. You may want to check them out as they're actually quite reasonably priced.

We went plasma because of the improved viewing angles (over projection types) and the general look of the box. LCD would offer you similar advantages but we found that we preferred the picture quality of the plasma for larger panels over the LCD's. Great TV for movies.

I just looked into this again and they released the Directors series which is 1080 but that was the only model they offered it on none of the other models produced 1080. Just like with Pioneer they offer it only in the Elite series none of the other lines.

Now I have another question about cables.

I know all the sales associates recommend the expensive cables, but does it really make a difference.

I have read a few people say that the expensive cables don't make much difference, but then I've heard a lot of people say that Monster Cables make a huge difference.

So, do we need to go spend a ton on cables? Opinions?

You don't need to spend a lot on cables. All you really need is good quality cable with good connectors. Bulk speaker cable is fine too. Use 14 gauge for runs up to 20 feet and 12 gauge for longer runs. The speaker cables don't need to be the same length.

There are three Hitachi models (42HDX99, 42HDT79,42HDS69 the last of which you can get for just over $2000) that also offer the same 1080i technology - the DX model is the Directors series. It's only available on these three models and nothing on anything above a 42".
