I posted this on the main Resorts page but figured I would copy it over here.

WDW is apparently adding some new channels to it's in-room TV offerings.

AMC
Biography
Bravo
Discovery Channel
Food Network
Fox News
HGTV
History Channel
National Geographic
SyFy
TBS
TLC
TNT
Travel Channel
TV Land

Not a big deal for most since most of us don't go to WDW to watch TV but it's always nice to have options.

Finally we get more than just those Disney channels. Now if they can just turn the volume down when the TV first comes on.

According to a letter delivered to the rooms at OKW, it was supposed to go into effect last Friday afternoon.
As of now, Tuesday 5pm, nothing has changed yet.

Huh! Doc reported it here a couple days ago, but I don't think he is actually at the resort right now.

So you are at OKW and still have no new channels? I suppose they have to turn them on at each tv or something. I know when we had tv problems last January in the GV, they had to send a tech out to mess with the box so we could get the channels again.

Diane..
They put a letter in the rooms on Friday that said the cable tv would go down for about 15 minutes early Friday afternoon, and when it came back the new channels would be added. (They listed the new channels.) But so far as of Wednesday morning, nothing has changed. Nothing was said that indicated that a tech would need to come to the room.I think Doc's post was based on the letter, not any actual change that happened.

I know we don't go to watch television but i do like to have it one while I drift to sleep or when I'm in the master bath tub, so I'm glad they've expanded the line up.

Thanks for posting!

It's about time! We do watch some TV (mostly early morning while getting ready for the day, and later in the evening, or even sometimes during an afternoon resort break). I'm thrilled to hear this.

is this for dvc only because I am at the Caribbean beach and the channels are crap

My understanding is that this is a WDW wide change so it is mainly an issue of when it actually happens at the resort.

Great, our last trip we got rained in one day and there was nothing to watch. The kids ended up watching The Princess and the Frog on my iPhone.

Were you at a DVC resort? The community centers have "ba-zillions" of DVD's you can borrow free of charge! We watched two movies on our last trip.

I thought it was just me... really loud, totally no need for that.
(And I'm not that old!)

I don't recall having problems with that in WDW but I did at VGC. Every time we turned on the TV it was reset to a Spanish channel with the volume turned up to 11.

What happened to the channel where they played old disney cartoons, like they do in the lobby???

I just had to say I loved this perk -- free DVD rentals came in handy last July when we had a rainy day. Ironically, we were going to rent PATF, but wound up with Tangled!

We came home yesterday from Boardwalk Villas. Nothing new there. Would have loved to have had Fox News. Really glad to see this change!:goodvibes
