New TTC Thread

soontobewed...I'm sorry you are so frustrated. I would be, too. I have heard of women being put on BCP while TTC, as strange as that sounds! Have you had any tests done? Insulin, HSG, thyroid, etc? What about your DH? Has he been tested? I actually find most of my support from this thread, and for info I just google. LOL! Of course, googling almost scared me half to death before my procedure last Friday, so that may not be the best advice! ;)

mommasnowwhite...A late AF is the worst!! Do you know your Dr's nurse or anyone else in the office that may be able to get you in earlier? I've had luck talking directly to the nurse instead of the appt people to get an earlier appt because she knows my history/background.

Skuttle- I am on thyroid medication and all my other tests have been normal. We have a little munchkin so they said DH doesn't need to be tested so far. That may change in October. I am praying this works because I am only 27 and well I would like another baby. We shall see. I google too and it scares me I am not going to do that anymore:thumbsup2

soontobewed....I was similar to you. I'm not sure if you are familiar with my story, but I'll give a brief version because I think things went a bit slowly with my TTC journey because we already have our son. I'm 30, DH is 33. We have an almost 6 year old DS. We've been TTC #2 for 3 years now. Because I had a previous pregnancy, I think my Dr took things slower. After a year of trying, I went to my Dr and she tested me for insulin resistance since my mom and grandma are diabetic. It came back that I was insulin resistant and I was put on metformin. After more months of no success, my Dr had DH tested because they figured I was fine since we already had DS. DH's tests results came back with low motility and morphology. More time passed, and we were going to do IUI. Did follicle scans, which showed I wasn't getting good follicles. We were going to do IUI with clomid, but before that I had an HSG, which showed some scar tissue. We have NO idea where it came from since I haven't had any procedures or illnesses associated with the scar tissue forming. Last friday I had a procedure done to remove the tissue. I tell you all of this because I don't want you to think that just because you had one baby doesn't mean that things couldn't have developed since then. I feel like our journey has been drawn out a bit more because we already had one child.

SnowWhite - I had that same issue at my OB's office, so I called back and said I had an immediate problem and I got an appt a month earlier. Still a month out from when I called, but better than 2 months. In my case, I sort of had an immediate issue which was constant spotting, but my real reason for wanting to go in was cause we had been trying 9 months with irregular cycles and issues.

Soontobewed - Like Skuttle, my dr was hesitant to really do anything since I already had 2 kids. We were on month 11 of trying for a 3rd when I finally got a positive test, without really any help from my dr. I had an FSH test and thyroid test, as well as a bunch of STD tests, which annoyed me cause I knew I didn't have one but she was uninterested in looking for anything else. She effectively said since I am young (I was 28yo at that appt, turned 29yo last week) and had 2 kids I had nothing to worry about. On my own I added a B6 supplement and the spotting stopped immediately. Obviously I have no idea if this actually helped or was coincidental, but that month my cycle was normal for the first time in 15 months and that's when I conceived so who knows.

Anyway, like Skuttle, I just want to say that things can be wrong even if you have a kid and I know after trying 11 months myself how frustrating and depressing it all can be, especially when your dr isn't doing too much to help.

Hi Everyone-

I posted a while back and I have been lurking too. I am so frustrated right now. I just need to vent. We have been trying since a miscarriage last Sept. This month I thought we had finally done it - I was a full week late (getting no positive tests) when when my monthly "friend" (my enemy really) came. I called my OB/GYN office today saying that I needed and appoint to discuss fertility issues and was told her first appointment is August 7th!

I could have cried - do they not understand? I am not getting any younger here - I am already worried that our fertility issues are related to peri menopause (I'm 38).

Sorry for the rant!

Baby dust to everyone! :wizard:

Shhhh....don't use the "M" word. Or the Peri "M" word. That's not allowed here.
I'm right there with you. Feeling like time is running out. I agree that Aug 7th is like FOREVER away. You need to get them to bump one of the preggos so you can get an earlier appt. ;)

I was started on metformin but it was making me ill and I was always starving. I am going to start working out so maybe that will help? After DS was born I lost all my weight then 5 months later I had put on 40 pounds. :scared1: I am going to start weight watchers again I think I need the fear:laughing: I have been taking levothroxin.

Skuttle I am glad the moved up your appointment. Baby Dust!!!1

Hey Aurora- sorry about the long wait at the doc- i hate that.

Chole- big HUGS to you for the BFN. i am sending lots of thoughts and baby dust your way for next month.

Soontobewed- sometimes docs do put you on BCP in the fertility process.....but given that you have such mixed up periods---i don't know if i would trust that was the right course of treatment- did you try researching it and see if that was the best course or get a second opinion? I had irrregular cycles too and they gave me clomid right away, not BCP. They can give you other medications to stop AF if you have been bleeding as long as you have. One site I liked was twoweekwait DOT com. They have various forums for various things- like if you are going through IUI, TTC #2, doing IVF, doing clomid etc. I spent a lot of time there when I was TTC#1, especially for the IUI/IVF info. wishing you lots of luck- it really helps to educate yourself----i realized the doctor would tell me something and i would have no clue what she was talking about- progesterone levels etc. I researched to learn all the acronyms and standard tests, levels, drug side effects etc. I felt more part of hte process and could question things if I didn't think it was the best course of action for us at the time. Sometimes you really have to be your own advocate and be aggressive and demanding to move things forward.

Mommasnowwhite- sorry about the delayed appt- don't you hate that. and all you want is to get this show on the road NOW!!! it's so frustrating.

Skuttle- so glad the appt went well and it was not as bad as you expected!

just wanted to give big hugs to all of you! I am starting to keep my diary/journal of my cycles in great details the next 6 months, so when i finally see my OB/GYN to talk about TTC#2, i'll at least have a head start on recording cycle stuff. I am almost 36, so i really want to get moving too- i definitely understand the sense of urgency many of you have.

and i remember sitting in my RE's office and I would get so annoyed when i would see a lady come in with her 2 kids for an appt. I would just be sitting there thinking- wow, she has 2 already- she should be happy with that- why is she here. I didn't get it. Now i am one of those TTC#2 (well soon anyhow) and i understand- it is just as frustrating and hard. I also hear ya on the doc not wanting to be aggressive enough since he knows you were able to have one. I am going to push the bar on that though. that may not mean squat- your body can change over time.

anyhow- have a super weekend with lots of baby dust!!!! :wizard:

Soontobewed - Hi. I don't know if you have heard of the book by Toni Weschler (SP?) called Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It's excellent and real eye opener to our bodies. There is also a website with an awesome forum section and software to chart your cycles. www.tcoyf.com. I encourage everyone TTC to check it out. I am on Month 9 or 10 of TTC #2. I had a chemical (hate that term)/early miscarriage in April and stopped charting since then. Who knows. I have given up for a few months and will get back into chart when my DH and I are not living apart Monday through Friday!

Not sure about the rest of you but I've tried this too with no luck.
Started charting again this month, but not sure if its going to do much good. :guilty:
Sometimes I think that some of us will never have controll over our fertility (or lack there of) :headache:

Isn't that the truth!!

My post-op appt for Tuesday has been canceled. The nurse called me and said that my Dr does not need to see me because everything came back normal. She said we'll go ahead with the clomid/IUI this next cycle. :cool1: So I call when my next cycle starts, do clomid CD5-9, and start follicle scans on CD11ish. I have three IUI's with my Dr before she sends me to an RE.

I did some research about my "issue" and I found that this was a "normal" Treatment. It is actually working I am not as exhausted and AF has stopped thank goodness. I am going to order that book now and I am also charting my spotting and etc...

Skuttle- so glad to hear everything is going well. Baby Dust:wizard:

Hi everyone. Just checking in and saying hi! Going with the same program right now. Saw the RE this week and he said try a couple of more months with the injections, and if no BFP we will move forward. Of course, I have a Disney trip planned for ten days in August, and a Labor Day weekend trip planned, so that would probably mean waiting till September. I am really, really hoping for a BFP in June or July. :worship: I do like having a longterm plan though, just in case.

soontobewed - It's good news that the BC is helping you!

Skuttle - I'm happy to hear that your results came back normal and you are moving forward with the IUI!!!

D&D - I hear you, I feel like I have no control over the issue at all. :sad2:

DMickey - Just wanted to say hi. I know you are taking a break with the move, etc.. I've taken a month off here and there, and it's always a nice relief for a little while.

exwdwcm - Keeping a journal is a great idea!

Mommasnowwhite - I don't know how your insurance works, but if you have been ttc for more than six months and are 38, I would definitely skip the GYN and go straight to the RE. I never went to my GYN for this issue, I told her when I had already made my appointment with an RE. The RE specializes in treating infertility, and the recommendation usually is to see the RE if you are over 35 and have been ttc for six months which you have. Good luck!!!

Hi Boltfans, hope you are doing well!

Hi Aurora, hoping you are doing well also!

Do any of you have an iPhone? There are a few apps to track your period/fertility. I'm much better at keeping up with that then the FF tracking. You can't really track your temps like you can on FF, but I still find the apps helpful.

Sending pixiedust: your way. Sounds like a good plan.

Here's to some summer BFPs

Hi everybody! I hope everybody had a good weekend. We travelled to see my dad for his 60th birthday, which was nice. Adds to the stress a little, though!

skuttle-I read the post where your appointment was cancelled and was like...oh no...and then kept reading. Woohoo! Hopefully you're on the way now! What apps do you like for tracking? I've been writing dates in my calendar at work (that I don't actually use for anything other than keeping up with this because I keep my real work calendar in my iphone) but I'd love to have an easier way, especially one that's right at hand!

Well, I'm currenty on CD30 after my first round of clomid. I intended to test when we got home a little while ago, but forgot (I'm an idiot). I seriously doubt it since so many other treatments have failed, and we weren't very friendly this month, but we'll see. The whole point of using clomid was supposed to be to keep me cycling regularly, so I know I'm wishful thinking for it to be positive.

If I'm not pregnant, we're going ahead. We've saved roughly half the money, and are financing the rest. We're going to finance a little more than what we need, because there are a lot of small fees that will add up, like the nurse's education class ($45), the meds (copays-who knows how much), and the nurse anesthetist ($250). If it works, it will be worth every penny and more. I'm still hoping that I'm already pregnant, but I really doubt it.

Anyway...we'll see. Everything is moving along now.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you. :flower3:

Courtney, Good luck!! How has the clomid been? I'm figuring I'll be taking my clomid while on our beach trip! Ugh! I'm hoping I do okay on it.

I started off using the free FF app. Then I saw the iPeriod app, which I think was a couple of bucks. I bought it because it looked pretty. Well, it looks much prettier, but I didn't care for it. So I went back to the FF app. Neither is perfect. The iPeriod app I think just had an update so I may need to check it out again to see what the updates did.
