Hi all! :cutie:

First, let me start off with the fact that I'm not here to start anything, simply looking for tips or ideas! We generally bring a lot of electronics with us (kindles, ipad or laptop, lots of camera gear, etc) even though we try to keep it to a minimum but my camera gear alone makes that a bit hard. So with these new restrictions I'm considering cutting down on what we bring. We used to drive but have decided that flying is a lot better for us, so that's not an option, nor would checking a bag be.

I'm wondering if, with the new restrictions, anyone will be changing what they bring on a plane electronics-wise or changing how they bring it? :teacher: Thanks!

Are you talking about the restrictions on flying from overseas to the US, and what you can carry in your checked luggage? I carry on everything and fly domestically, so I'm changing nothing.

It is not really new travel restrictions. It is a change in the screening process through security.

Sorry if I phrased that oddly :goodvibes I'm just curious if, since some people carry a lot of electronics (:wave2:), they'll be changing what they bring as a carry-on or start checking bags since it'll more than likely take longer to get through the screening process with the additional bins needed for what they bring.

From the UK and we already have to remove all electronic equipment and put them a different bin to jackets / bags. It takes a few minutes extra but nothing major. I keep the electronic stuff in a clear ziplock plastic bag sitting at the top of my rucksack. I lift it out, lay out flat and put in a bin (camera, mobile phone, daughters DVD player and headphones and my iPad). Jacket and rucksack go in another bin and good to go. Usually add a sticker with my name on the side of the bag. Can use a couple of bags if can't fit everything into one so all items can lie flat.

It's supposedly affecting domestic flights as well (I live in NC), where any electronic larger than your phone will also have to be taken out of luggage to go through security. It's not just your laptop anymore so it could include camera gear and other things. I saw it in an article from the TSA. I think I can paste the link: https://www.tsa.gov/news/releases/2...-baseline-stronger-domestic-security-measures
Ah...hadn't heard that. Still wouldn't change anything for me. I'm TSA Precheck so rarely have to take anything out, plus I don't bring as much as you do. But I think you'll be fine if you just show up a few minutes earlier than normal. And @Ceilidhscot idea about the plastic bags would be easy to implement. You could get the big ones from Ziploc (I think they are called XL or something?) to hold multiple items at once.

I would also like to know if you put your electronic's chargers also out separately or keep it in the carryon and not take it out. these electronics all have lots of wires , chargers, backup chargers and wire with those so do you put all those wires on the belt through security too?

TBH, I keep the chargers in the checked-in luggage rather than hand as just ensure all equipment I'm taking into the cabin is full charged before I go. That way I don't have to worry about loads of cables - just the headphone ones for my daughter's DVD player which are wrapped round the earmuff part anyway.

The rest is stored in a ziploc bag in the hold luggage as the last thing in - that way if they do decide to open my case, they shouldn't need to go searching through too much to find it.

I'll just keep all electronics in a small bag inside the larger one, easy to pull out for security

My home airport was one of the test airports for this new screening process when I flew in September. I had an iPad, 2 kindles, and my phone in my carry on bag, and they just went into a separate bin by themselves. They have to be lying flat in the bin but can be stacked on top of each other. I left all of the chargers in my carry on bag (it has a separate compartment for them) and they went through just fine. No extra time needed. :)
