Hello all, I'm sure as Canadians going to the US, you're all aware of the new travel restrictions imposed by the TSA. I was wondering if anyone has faced these yet?

Most particularly, I have a small conundrum I'm not sure about.

They say you can bring a laptop on board if it's in a regular laptop case.
They also say you can bring a camera, if it's in a regular camera carrying case.
But you can't bring luggage or even a laptop bag that duals as a suitcase.

I have a LowePro 350 Camera Bag. it's specifically a Backpack-Camera Bag with a pouch for a laptop on the back. So it doubles as a Camera Bag and a Laptop Bag. But it is the size of a standard backpack... Any idea if this will be a problem to bring on board?

I have the same bag and will be bringing it when we go next week. I think it will qualify as a "purpose-designed carrying case". I am not, however, taking a laptop (too easy to do work if we do that) so I don't know how the screening folks would react to carrying both the laptop and camera equipment in the same bag, given the specific prohibition to backpack style laptop bags.

Call the airline or airport. I am taking a laptop back with a camera and kids psp and DS in it.

If you go to the catsa site, you can down load a very specific list of what is allowed through airport security as "carry on".
Laptops are only allowed in briefcase type carriers "laptop computers and accessories
in regular carrying cases * they * it because there is a picture of what is acceptable below this written description.

and cameras are allowed like the following:

cameras (still and video) and accessories in purpose-designed
carrying cases
-- includes film, lenses, spare batteries, chargers, cables
-- includes large, professional-grade cameras and equipment

Hope that helps. I'll be flying out of YYZ myself on the 30th, and I'm traveling with a 5yr old and a 5month old so I've really got to watch what i'm bringing in.

Hello folks

I left Thursday (6th) from Toronto & returned yesterday(12th) & used my regular backpack for my electronic equipment & only my electronic equipment (except a couple of magazines).

They didn't say anything about the bag...it had a DSLR, a point & shoot, replacement lens, flash, IPOD & MP3 player. I had to prove that it all worked during the search, but no issue with the bag.

i was more concerned that all of the electronics started up & the batteries weren't dead..
