You'll be allowed to take small items with you, fanny packs, water and the like - it's just cameras and big back packs/bags they have a problem with because when you are backstage it would be all too easy to slip something in to your bag as a 'souviner'.
As I said, someone had to leave their backpack behind on my tour, however when I asked if they wanted my camera (which was in a little pouch attached to my fanny pack) they were fine as it was zipped up and I guess they felt it would be pretty obvious if I were to take it out. I also carried a small bottle of water with me...the bottle of water that <i>they</i> gave me at the start of the tour. The issue isn't about traditional 'security' - they've always had these rules for as long as I can remember - it's about keeping the Disney magic a secret.
It's also my understanding that these rules about bags and camera's apply to ALL backstage tours at all parks, it's not exclusive to the MK.
