Okay, so I just signed up. Now it's in d/l mode...how long does it usually take to appear? It's been five minutes already. My computer is accessing the internet, but it's going slowly...that said, any tips for a newbie?

They can not help if they have dial-up internet or not. It's not something they can just fix like a computer problem.

If you are using dial-up VMK is not the best to play with it. The first times you play it will take awhile to get on. After time your computer should get used to it and get a little faster. Also you may have to update your shockwave: HERE

I ain't using dial up, at the moment. It took 45 minutes on a cable connection. That said, I have dial up at home that can't be prevented. It's not as easy as switching hair colors.

I had this problem at my DM's house. She has cable connection as well. It took about 30 minutes to sign my DD up. Try clearing ALL cookies, ALL temporary internet files ( on and off line) and ALL of your internet history.
Also, look at your alotted space for temporary internet files. I messed with this setting until it was perfect! I know this is what worked for my DM computer; whether it was just a coincidence, I will never know. :confused3
Hope that helps some. :goodvibes

Where would I find this setting?

well vmk does have a minimum requirements to play for your connection and system...now don't flame, lol--this comes from the vmk homepage :)

DSL or greater connection
screen size of at least 1024x768
1.5 GHZ CPU or faster and 256 MB of RAM (for PC's)

so if you are experiencing problems take a look and see if you meet the requirements, if not you may continue to experience issues

happy gaming!

Roxane -

on windows there are two ways. While IE is open, click on tools, then internet options, then on the general tab there is an area in the middle concerning temporary internet files. Press the settings button and increase your file size allocation. Mine is set at 256 MB. What you can set this to depends on how big your hard drive is, along with a few other factors.

The other way is Start - Settings - Control Panel - Internet Options, then follow the directions above.

Hope it helps

Dara

Sorry to say but the first time you log in (or the first time you login after an update) if you are using a dial up connection it takes Forever to get on. Think over an hour. Once you have gotton on once you are fine, you will be able to log in in just a few minutes from then on.
I would update shock wave and dump your internet files like other have said before you start for the first time but be very careful and only delete select files you don't need after that or you will have to load all that info from scratch again.

Good luck and have patience!
