Happy Valentines Day!!!

We are new to the camping way of life. We purchased a camper a year ago and upgraded to a Class A a month ago. The planning has already started. Our first trip will be to "The Fort" in March. We typically get our Disney fix on the Disney Cruise Line a few times a year BUT we thought camping might be a great change of pace.

We have 2 daughters 27 and 26. Jen our oldest is disabled and finding a vacation that was suitable for her and our younger daughter Amandalyn was difficult when they were younger which is when we found cruising, it was a great fit. As they girls got older we thought Amandalyn would change the family vacation to a vacation with friends and boy were we wrong. She still loves to vacation with us and now her boyfriend tags along.

I am a little concerned about the Fort's accessibility for Jen? As well as the ease of transportation options to the World. Any one have experience?

We are looking forward to seeing Sailor Mickey's brother….Camping Mickey!

You will love the campground, and don't worry it is very ADA accessible. We travel with the n laws and depending on how my father n law fills he will use a scooter to ride to and from the parks. The boat to the MK and all the buses can load a chair. I hope y'all have as good a time as sailing.

Welcome. You will find the Fort and the parks very accommodating for your daughter. We had a special needs son, who sadly passed away in 2014, but Disney was the one place we could visit that we felt like he fit in and was accepted. The cast members always were very helpful. Make sure to stop by guest services for a special accessibility card which will allow you to get set times to ride so you won't have to wait for long lines. It's sort of like a fast pass.

We have camped at the Fort three times so far and will be going again this Spring Break and Halloween. My daughter is handicapped. She can walk but requires a wheel chair at Disney due to stamina issues. We have never had any problems. The buses and the boats to MK have lifts and ramps. The first park you go to get her the disablilty noted to her magic band. Have a great time and be warned the Fort is addictive.

WDW, FW and cast members work with folks who have disabilities all the time. If you have questions regarding specifics aspects of a disability or challenge you think you may encounter and interactions while at WDW, I would call and talk to a cast member or a manager at FW. If you have requirements that will make your stay or your daughters stay more enjoyable ask ahead of time. I am pretty sure, every bus I have ridden has been wheel chair accessible, as well as they lower to make the first step up easier. Sure they are guest who want to go, go , go.. .but the drivers seem to know what is going on and take their time to make sure Everybody is safe and secure.

My father is handicapped and the Fort is his single favorite spot on property. Easy bus service, easy boat service, and a highly accessible pool.

Welcome! The only thing we love as much as Disney cruises is the Fort. You'll find the people are just as friendly and helpful as those on the cruises. Enjoy!

We're counting down the days to our first Ft Wilderness camping adventure. Anything I should remember to bring? Something I would NEVER think of packing? We are beyond excited!

Hope you all have a magical time! Something we have added is colored lights to decorate our campsite with. Even if it's not the holidays, it's so nice to come "home" to pretty lights. We have some Mickey lights now that I can't wait to take on our next trip to the fort in April.
