Hi there....

I've been lurking on this board for a few days (I post a lot on the DCL board) and I'm hoping for some help.

DH and I have just decided to visit my mom in AZ for Christmas next year, and we plan to drive up to DL for a couple of days while we're there. I am an obsessive planner (2009 cruise already booked:lmao: ), so I have already started doing some research on hotels, tix, etc. I'm running into some problems though, and was hoping for some suggestions from the experts. I know it is peak season, but that can't be helped.

- I am having a really hard time finding hotel rates for the hotels within walking distance. Is it REALLY to early to start planning/looking for a good hotel rate? Any suggestions for getting a good rate?

- Is it better to book on your own or use a TA? Will a TA such as DU have rates for Dec. 2008 yet? I am a AAA member, do they have good deals?

Any suggestions are appreciated - thanks!

Try calling the hotels directly. If you have an idea where you want to stay, it might be wise to make a ressie and then change it if a better rate comes along later.

I've always found that doing the ressies myself and separately (not a package) is the cheapest way to go.

For good close-by hotels, I'd recommend the Candy Cane Inn as my favorite. However, several of the hotels across the street from the parks on Harbour are also okay: Tropicana, Camelot, Carousel, BW Park Place, and HoJo's.

All have a free continental breakfast, except for HoJo's.:thumbsup2

Like ter-moo said, try calling the hotels directly.
We have stayed at the Anaheim Desert Inn for the past 7 years. I do not believe they, or many others, post their rates online until about 6 months out. I am a fellow obsessive planner myself! I called directly last year 9 months out and got a fantastic rate.
Not sure what you are looking for in a hotel but they are extremely convienent, reasonable rates, comfy and clean. Nothing fancy but a good value if you are on a budget or just can't bring yourself to spend big bucks just for a place to shower and sleep.
Being the planner that I am, I prefer to make the arrangements myself. I have shopped around and gotten a few quotes over the years but have never found a better deal than what I come up with myself. I would be sure to ask if they have a AAA rate, just in case. Also, call back often to double check the rates. I know sometimes they change and you might be able to get a better rate. On the other hand do start calling as early as possible. I saved $70 a night by booking 9 months early compared to their online rates a few months before we actually arrived.
It's never to early to start planning! If nothing else, it gives you plenty of time to narrow down your choices!
You will love the park in December! It is beautiful!
