Hello -

I have been to the world 3 times in the past 4 years. I am looking to do something a bit different. I am wondering, I have 6 days and 5 nights in march. Is there other parks locally near Disneyland and California Adventure that we would be able to enjoy without a car?

Please let me know.

thanks!

If you are just doing DLR you do not need a car - especially if you get a walking distance hotel or one with a reliable shuttle.

If you want to see other things in SoCal you will probably need a car. There is Knott's Berry Farm not too far away but still probably a 10 minute drive minimum. Universal Studios is 40 miles away. I have heard of shuttles to USH from DLR but do not know anything about it. If it was me I would get a car if I wanted to go to USH. Sea World in San Diego and the zoo there are 60-80 miles away and would require a car.

For the non-Disney parks outside of DL, you would need a car - just like at WDW.

We only use debit cards and cash, so we haven't rented a car in years and years. And when we did have a car at Disneyland, we didn't use it, it just sat there. (b/c we have no interest in leaving DLR for another park, LOL, but then again we were starting and ending our main trip IN San Diego so we got to SW anyway, and we were using my brother's car)

So anyway, if you are willing to give up your autonomy, Grayline has many tours, even down to SeaWorld: http://www.grayline.com/Grayline/destinations/us/anaheim.go .

You do not need a car to visit other parks in the area, but other options would obviously be slower and offer less flexibility. Gray Line and other bus companies take visitors from hotels near DLR to area attractions. I don't know if it's still good, but there was an offer where you would get into USH "free" if you paid for bus transportation.

Knott's Berry Farm is the closest major theme park, and can be reached via a municipal bus system.

If you need to rent a car for a day, Alamo's website says they have an office in DTD.

Also, the Anaheim Hilton has a rental car facility in their building (can't remember which rental place it was). The Hilton charges for parking but the rental place gives you a pass so you don't have to pay for parking. And the ART shuttle that goes to DL picks you up right outside of the hotel.

how long do you stay at WDW? Because between DL and DCA and DD, it is almost like 3 WDW parks.......you could fill the time.

I personally would just do DL, DCA, and DTD. We did go to Knott's Berry Farm one time (and did not really like it), but we just took a taxi from our hotel and went to Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum, Knott's Berry Farm, and then Medieval Times for dinner (all in the same area).

Contrary to what some of the others say, I think that you don't need a car at all. You can get to all places by public transportation. You can use "The Anaheim Resort Transit", "OCTA", "Amtrak", "Metrolink" and the "Metro" in Los Angeles. You can also do Bus Tours to the theme parks. We did and we were fine that way!

Knott's isn't an amazing park or anything compared to DLR. If you go to DLR and then Knott's you'll be a little disappointed; although if you have little ones they'll like it. I think the only REAL reason to leave DLR is for the beach and for USH (and to get food outside of DLR).

Thats up to you though !!!!

Thanks for all your responses. We will be coming in on Wednesday and going home on Monday. Just a shortened vacation to do something fun with the kids. I will look into the other transportation to USH as this would be a great place to take the kids. Maybe even a 1 day car rental would work. I didn't even think about that.

Thanks again.
