Mine randomly just popped up after I added a signature... not sure if that had something to do with it. I clicked on my username and it was in the drop box. Maybe you need at least two posts to add an avatar, that could be it as well!

Well, I didn't add a signature, but I did click on my user name and something about an avatar popped up. I managed to get one and am thrilled!!!

Glad both of you were able to add your avatars and signatures! Both of those items are restricted until you have made 10 posts -- plus a lag of about 30 minutes.
