My brother just shocked us with a Disney 7-day vacation package in June!! :earseek: I know, what a brother!!

I'm thinking about getting the kids interested in pin trading but don't want to spend a lot on collectible pins...just something small that they can have fun trading. Any suggestions on how to start this CHEAPLY? I don't want to pay $10-15 a pin.

Thanks!
Lisa

Wow thats wonderful. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: You can find pins on Ebay!!!

If you eat a lot of Kellogg's cereals you can get FREE pins.

Some of the Kellogg's boxes (there were many more out last summer & fall) still have coupons on the side. For every 3 you clip & collect, you can redeem them in Downtown Disney for a FREE pin.

We've got nine of the coupons saved already & will redeem them during our trip later this month. Can't wait!

The HUGE boxes of Frosted Flakes at my Giant still have the coupons on them. There's still a few others out there also.

We collected them last year also, & last May we got several FREE pins when we got to Disney. Then the kids traded them for ones they liked better.

Another option would be to wait until you get down there and you can buy a small starter kit that will come with a lanyard to wear around your neck and four pins or so to trade with Cast Members! If you don't want to do that, then I would agree with aplejax that ebay is the way to go. You can usually find pins there very cheaply!

Don't forget to be alert...I got onto the Indy Speedway in Tomorrowland, and as I sat down in the race car I felt something sharp....a Pin! I handed it to the CM because I was in pain....later I thought...the owner of the pin will never know where they lost it...I should have kept it to trade! Oh well, wouldn't like to cash in on another's bad luck...
Now for the advice...buy two or three of the same pin so you will be willing to part with one! We kept buying pins and liking them too much to trade! I haven't checked out ebay as a source for trader pins, but I have heard of the idea, it must work. Have fun, pins rock!

I love to trade pins...and give them away!

I found a good store on ebay that is doing buy it now for $5.95 with NO S&H!

PM me if you want the name of the store! And I don't know the owner!

How many pins, please?

We bought from ebay. I just searched "Disney pin lot", and came up with some great deals! Good luck!

Mousepinsonline.com - they sell in lots so it comes out to less than $2 per pin.

How much is that starter set at Downtown Disney?

Also, I checked out mousepinsonline and they were only $3 a pin! Thanks!

I tried them in Oct. and they were fine - had a special buy 10, get one free. Came out to $3 a pin I think. Not a huge selection, but we were happy with all of them. Most of the lots I saw on ebay were for like 40 pins or more, but maybe if you have a few kids that would be OK.Read some more here about pins and you'll find out there are some cheapo pins being traded as well - Sedesma, or something like that. They're not as thick as the real Disney pins.

My 4 yr old son started on our last trip and he had a ball. I only let him trade with CMs and they all let him pick a pin from their lanyard and also let him pick which pin he gave in return. He overlooked some good pins that even I knew were valuable for some of the oddest choices. He even got a few of the Sedesma pins from CMs, but that was OK cuz he liked the pins anyway. Just make sure the backs are on tight - some of the metal ones we got were loose.

Have fun!

We were just at WDW in Nov and DD8 tried pin trading. First step inside MK, a CM saw that she only had 2 pins and gave her one to keep! It was a good start. However, let me give you a warning - the rubber Mickey ear backs came off some of the bigger, heavier pins. We actually lost 2 pins that way (came off the lanyard and didn't realize it). We found pin anchors in one of the Emporium shops on Main Street (can't remember exactly where, but was right on the pin racks in the shop). They come with a special little allen wrench so you know they'll stay on.
Oh, and most pins in the park were a little under $10. We had the problem also that we bought pins the DD's liked and then they didn't want to trade them away!
Enjoy!

Oh yes...DM is a "collector" not a "trader"! We use her spare space!

I have one side of my lanyard that are for trade...the other is pins I just LOVE!

DB just wears 2 lanyards...course he is over 6 feet tall!

I like to trade with children....I won't take advantage and sometimes teach them what it is all about (when they come and ask)!

How many pins? Hard question to answer. I am taking cork trivets this trip...so I can display pins in the room and then pick which ones I want to trade...guess I am taking about 75 with me...of course I will come back with more cause of buying some...but maybe not...if I find nice people to give them to :)

ebay is great but beware of fakes priced under $3 per pin. Also, do not buy those year 2001 pins as every cast member had one blocking trades.

Try disney.com. On mondays they have free shipping the other week they had sets for 9 making it like less then 2 dollars a pin. Nothing right now on sale but keep checking. Our disney store has a tink pin for 5.50

I would also recommend having the child stick to a theme. My youngest DS8 collects only the Stitch pins (which must be about a billion) and my oldest DS12 only collects the Walt Disney's Legacy pins. I only have the Attraction pins and my husband only collects the special event pins (i.e. F&GF, MNSSHP, MVMCP, F&WF, etc.)

I'll add another good word for mousepinsonline.com. I bought the 25 pin grab bag too get my neice and nephew a good start. They were delivered in three days from ordering, for about $2.25 per pin with priority shipping included. They are mostly less popular characters, but will be traded anyway. That's why I bought them, so the kids can trade. They all have the Disney trademark on them and are indivudually packaged.
also got a free pen and extra pin backs as a bonus.
