So my friend recommended buying DVC points for our 1st family trip to WDW. How does this all work?? Can someone help me? We're hoping to go from Dec 11-14, 2006. I'd like to stay at the Villa of the Wilderness Lodge. How do I find out how manY pts I need to buy? What about doing the dining package at WDW with our tix and hotel room? How does this all come into play with the DVC? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! TIA!! :cool1:

Well, here's a link to the sticky at the top of the rent/trade board to help you understand some of the processes of renting DVC points.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=269518

At the top of this forum, you'll see a link that is entitled "DVC Point Charts" and that's how you determine the number of points your stay will need. The members who own at VWL have been able to book stays for December '06 beginning this month so there are quite a few reservations that have been made. If you are still interested in renting, go to the rent trade board and see what is available.

We've never rented points. I'm sure you'll get more help from those who have.

Bobbi :)

I presume you mean you want to rent points from a DVC member, and not actually purchase a membership yourself?

Go over to the Rent/Trade board and read all the FAQ's there, then make a post stating what you want.

To find out how many points you would need, click on the 'DVC Point Charts' link at the top of this page.

Now the bad new: VWL is very popular for the dates you want, and the rooms go very quickly. VWL members may reserve up to 11-months in advance. That was already a couple of weeks ago (Jan 15th) and so there's a good chance many of the rooms are already gone.

You need to act 'right now'. Decide exactly what you want, make your post on the rent/trade board and see if someone who owns VWL points can check availability for you.

Thank you so much!! Yes, I meant to "rent" points. I'll start my research ASAP if I want VWL!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!

Where is the points chart, I can't find it.

Thanks, Bobbi. So how do you pay for your DVC rental points? Is it cash? What about tax? Is this added upon arrival?

If you rent points it is strictly between yourself and the person you are renting from. Neither Disney DVC nor the DISboards can help you out.

Advice is to work with a renter who will offer you a signed contract. That will protect both of you. How you pay is up to your renter and the terms should be in the contract.

There is no tax. (Taxes are collected as part of a member's annual dues, and thus would be reflected in the rental price agreement) If someone tries to rent you points and additionally collect some type of tax, or service fee, or anything else, then the best advice for that would be to run, quickly away from that renter.

You'll find that most renters are honest.

When you stay at the resort, there will be no taxes or additional fees of any kind. The only thing you would have to pay for would be items you use during your visit that do incur a fee such as charging things to the room, etc. Also there is a small fee for using the telephone, and long distance fees would apply if you call long distance. You can also get internet service for an additional fee ($9.95/24 hours). Additional housekeeping is available, beyond the normal service, for a fee. This of course is optional.

If you check-in, don't charge anything to the room, don't use the phone or internet, don't request anything 'extra' from mousekeeping....then when you check out, you won't owe a dime.

Thank you!! You answered everything I wanted to know about. You guys are great!

Once you hae a confirmed reservation, you may add the Dining Plan. It is the same plan that is offered by CRO/WDWTC, except that you will not have to buy tickets to add the Dining Plan. DVC members (and their renters/guests) may add the DP to their reservations without also having to buy tickets. It is not prepaid and you must call to add it at least 48 hours in advance. You pay at check in.

The price and all of the other rules are the same - buy for everyone in your party and for the entrie length of your stay, etc.

You may purchase any type of tickets anywhere you choose, including at check in.

FWIW, DVC renters may also take advantage of Magical Express if they so choose.

Best wishes -

Really?? You can add dining plan now?? I *REALLY* want to do that. But if I get a villa with a kitchen, is that necessary?

Also, if I post on the "DVC point rent board", do I have to guarantee I'll use it upon the post? Or do we email back and forth and decide if it is best for me? I'm still researching things but want to know my options are open b/c we're not 100% on our plans.

Most folks will make contact through Private messages. As for the dining plan...We find we never use counter service and usually eat an one sitdown restaurant a day. We always make breakfast and a few lighter lunches or suppers in the villa, so the dining plan is not worth it to us. We usually rent a car and go to Publix to grocery shop our first day there.

I was just thinking this! I figured we could buy waffles or the sort for brkfst in the villa, do lunch at the park, and then dinner back in the villa. I was thinking of doing a limo/car from the hotel to avoid any wait with the ME bus and we could do the grocery store stop on the way to the hotel. Thank you so much!!!

Watch out renting can get you hooked, I did and now own at BWV.

I'm sure!!! A friend of mine started renting and now she won't stay anywhere else except renting DVC!! :thumbsup2: She convinced me to do this and after some research, I'm anxious to go and be in a comfortable room!! It seems so worth the extra money from a Value Resort to have a bigger place for my younger kids! CAN'T WAIT!!! Thank you again to all of you for your help with all of this!!! :Pinkbounc: :woohoo:

I think what byoung meant was that once you rent you may find that you suddenly *need* to purchase. (I think you'll find that if you plan to rent more than about 8-12 times then you'll save money by purchasing.)

Who said "A luxury once sampled becomes a necessity..."??
