New Ticket Upgrade Policy?

Any updates on the person who was unsuccessful yesterday in upgrading? I wonder what can be done to stop this from happening if there really isn't a no-upgrading policy?

I agree, things seem stressed.

FWIW, I emailed them earlier today and just got a response, so they must be working late trying to get to everyone. I'm thinking of exchanging tickets with UT to the one I want so I have it before I leave. That way I won't have the worry if I can bridge or even upgrade it at all once I get there. It sounds like they're willing to work with me on that as long as the tickets are in the same condition in which they were sent to me.

That's exactly what I want to just do. I wasn't sure if we wanted 6 or 7 days but I just want 7 day tickets so I know I have 7 day tickets and be done with it and if we skip a day so be it. I don't want to guess what my tickets are worth on that given day and I don't want to travel around from window to window, park to park trying to find someone who knows how to get my days added correctly and for the right price. If I'm told I can't add days at all it won't be pretty. I feel like a 2 year old ready to melt down......and I'm not even there yet!

It's not that I blame UT or that I don't believe they're giving correct information based on their Disney contacts. I don't trust that anyone really gets correct information anymore and don't want to stress about can I or can't I. I just want it taken care of so I can stop stressing over it.

Example (made up numbers)-

I have a never-used 5-day MYW base ticket that I bought in March 2007 from AuthorizedReseller.com.

Disney's wholesale price to AuthorizedReseller.com was $226.

I paid $236 for that ticket in 2007. (Gate price was $246.)

I save $10 off the gate price.
Disney "lost" $20.
In 2007.

I go to WDW in March 2014.
I use that 2007 ticket, as-is, and go into a theme park on 5 different days.

How much money has Disney lost in 2014?

Now, what if I wanted to ADD another day to that 5-day ticket on my March 2014 trip?

How much should Disney charge me to keep from "losing money,"
and to make it a good deal for me to stay in the parks for another day?

This is why price-bridging to the current gate price makes so much sense.

Talk about stress!

This weekend I have to figure out our FP+ reservations and now I was up most of the night worrying about our tickets.

I purchased two 5 day MYW PH's on 6/3/13 from UT with the intentions of upgrading them to DVC AP's. We did not go to WDW last year and are now going May 12th of this year.

First of all, I am stressed about being able to even upgrade these tickets and second of all, if I can I have no idea what it is gonna cost us. Current gate price? Gate price from last year? When was the June 2013 ticket price increase?

If anyone can give me a clue on the figures it would be much appreciated. Before the recent price increase I had figured around $340 total, now I have no idea.

Thanks

We are leaving Sunday for WDW and were planning to upgrade DHs 6 day PH with WPF&M non-expiration ticket to an AP. I guess we will go to a couple ticket booths before we use the ticket and ask if we can price bridge/upgrade before we use the ticket once. If we get a no several times, I guess we will just purchase an AP and return the ticket to UT? Does that sound like the best plan. I really don't mind if they price bridge to the old gate price or the new gate price, but I don't want to be told we can't upgrade at all...we have zero use for a WP/NE ticket!

Alright, can someone check my figures.

Last year's price increase was June 2, 2013. I bought our tickets on the 3rd.

So, if we are allowed to upgrade to current gate price at time of purchase my tickets would be worth $348 plus tax $22.62 for a total of $370.62. Which would mean I would pay $198.09 each or a total of $396.18 to upgrade to DVC annual pass.

If we are allowed the current gate price when we go the tickets would be worth $387.66 (including tax). This means $181.05 each or a total of $362.10 to upgrade to the DVC annual passes.

This is with the DVC AP costing a total of $568.71 each.

Sound right?

If the tickets have been opened, they can't be returned.

I am planning something similar and bought my 5 day tix on 6/4/13.
But I was planning to get the DVC PAP which I thought was $484 plus tax.

The website just says unused and unsigned?

I'm pretty sure that they enclosed a piece of paper with your order that pointed out that you can't open the plastic envelope if you want to return the tickets for any reason. I remember that from when I've ordered in the past.

I would love to get the PAP, but I believe that has to be bought/activated by 4/30. I won't be there until 5/12.

Correct me if I am wrong.

That could very well be the case and I just don't remember. Of course we had to open the ticket to link it to MDE.

Correct me if I am wrong.

You can buy the voucher over the phone anytime until April 30th and activate it anytime until Jan 30, 2015. (I might be slightly off on the date but you have enough time) Call DVC and they will give you a will call number you can put into MDE. When you arrive in May you can pick up the tickets.

I have read if the original ticket you were planning to upgrade to an annual pass included the Waterparks Fun & More option, you could ONLY upgrade to a PREMIUM annual pass (that includes waterparks).

You said you have no use for a ticket with WPF&M which I read to be you don't want to go to waterparks, etc. Unfortunately, an upgrade would have to include that option (PAP) at a significantly higher price than a regular AP.

I could be wrong but wanted to point this out.

I like math. :)

Today's gate price on my ticket is $304. So now Disney makes up for their 7 year loss on $20 by charging me $58 to make my ticket current, plus $10 for an additional day adding in sales taxes I come up with $72 to enjoy an extra day at Disney.

So for $72 I take my family off property and spend the day at Sea World instead. How much money has Disney lost now?

That is only true IF you use the WPF&M option at least once prior to the upgrade. If you do not, it can be upgraded to standard AP.

I believe this is true if you have USED any of the WP entitlements. If you have NOT used them I don't think there has been an issue in the past in going to a regular AP. of course - that means nothing going forward!

Thanks for the info. Too bad I had already bought the UT last year before they announced this promotion and have over $600 invested in my current tickets.

The PAP voucher wouldn't even help for our next AP purchase as we wouldn't need them until May 2015. I had planned on using this AP for this May, October and next May 2014 with no plans to return again until May 2015.

Sigh....
