New Ticket Rules and Bridging

I read that there are new rules regarding tickets purchased through 3rd party vendors and upgrading. I bought 10 day park hoppers through tickets at work for my husband and I for our upcoming trip. We were planning on bridging these tickets to make them DVC Annual passes when we arrived. Am I correct in reading that they are not longer going to allow this? Has anyone else had a problem doing this lately?

From what I read, you will still be able to upgrade, you just have to pay the difference in cost between your discounted tickets and the current gate price. I could be wrong though!

After reading through a LONG thread - the consensus seems to be that nothing has changed. The OP should be able to use the tickets once, then upgrade them to APs after they are bridged to the current gate price.

Thank you. We already figured we would have to pay to match them to the DVC price as it is now. So I am hoping this stays true and we can bridge them in May.

No, that is not the case, even if there WAS a change in upgrade policy.
(The change hinted at was different from that situation.)

But, just to reiterate, it appears that there has NOT been any change in upgrade policy.

As long as you use the tickets once before upgrading them, you will only pay the $10+tax to add the day. If you try to add the day before using the tickets, you will be stuck paying the higher amount.

EDIT, double checked, robo is correct, unless you purchased it as part of a resort package, your responsible for the full price difference if you purchase MYW tickets from Disney at the old gate price.

Be polite and ask at GR for an exception due poor advice from the cast member you spoke with. There is never a garuntee, but it's worth a try.

Sorry to tell you that if you bought tickets FROM Disney World (as in ordered them on-line, on the phone, or at the gate) you will not be entitled to price-bridging.
Officially, you would have to pay the difference between what you paid at the time, and the current gate price for that ticket, plus the $10 for the added day.
(Plus, the 6.5% tax on all.)
It does not matter if you use the ticket first or not.

Only tickets purchased as part of a Resort Package, or from the Disney Store, or from an authorized WDW Ticket Reseller (like UT, or AAA, or Maple Leaf Tickets, etc.) are eligible for price-briding to the current gate-price (after the ticket is used to enter at theme park.)

I should have said (and the reason I used the word "officially" above) that there is always the chance (slim, unfortunately) that you will encounter a helpful ticket CM who will offer you a bit of Pixie Dust and charge you the price-bridged rate on your upgrade.

It seems that one has to have the equivalent of a college degree to handle some of the details of a WDW trip. Disney ticket rules are confusing at first. With time, many people "get it." Add to that the uneven interactions with Disney employees. Some are super-knowledgeable and helpful. Some are so inept, with mistaken info and not knowing how to handle transactions, that you walk away mumbling to yourself in *#X@!?*$+@!^ language.

Allears made a boo-boo in publishing adverse info about Disney ticket upgrading changes that was unconfirmed and, at this point, untrue. It created much panic. Maybe as a result, I've seen many more good questions from DisBoard posters about the ins-and-outs of ticket issues.

We all miss our Ticketing Information Guru, Cheshire Figment. He would have "the scoop." Cheshire, we hope all is well with you and yours.

Disney does not lose any money using the price-bridge technique when upgrading a ticket that was purchased at a discount.

The ticket was wholesaled to the discounter at a price of Disney's choosing.
After that, there is no additional money "lost" by Disney if the ticket is upgraded.

I tried to upgrade our 7 day base tickets purchased from UT to DVC premium AP's today and had mixed results. I first tried at guest relations inside EPCOT, and was told that since my tickets were purchased a couple of years ago, Disney has made a change in policy and will no longer price bridge old tickets. He wanted $250 extra for each ticket to do the upgrade.

I told him no thanks and tried again outside of EPCOT by the IG, and got the nicest CM who price bridged them without me even asking for it. He did the upgrade for $170 each ticket.

It appears to be hit or miss with which CM you get to help you. The first CM rattled on and on about the new "policy on price bridging", so there may be something in the pipeline.
